How many villagers will New Horizons have?

I feel like New Leaf's 10-villager limitation was due to the map size but also because each PWP, rock, pond, etc. had a very specific buffer around them making it harder to place things wherever you want. It seems from the NH trailer that we can place items and trees alongside buildings and riverbanks now, taking that limitation off (or at least, not as strict as before). Plus the map size seems to be a little bit bigger than New Leaf's. I think with that we might be getting around 12-14 villagers. I would actually like it if it gave us the option to control population size as well. Eg. If we want a more barren/deserted look and only 8-10 villagers we can turn off the move in function or something?

I totally agree with this! Now that dizzy bone has mentioned it, the map size does look big enough for 12-14 villagers and I would love to have the feature to turn off the move function.

Since i think that in New Horizons the map is slightly larger than in New Leaf, i hope they increase the villager limit to 12-15. But since we're only able to get 2 at the start, i am concerned it will be less than 10, 8 to be exact

That's my exact thinking to! The other concern is that some have observed that the map may not actually be very big which only inreases the chances I was looking forward to a bigger map with more villagers! Villagers are the biggest draw factor of the game for me.

The gamecube had a max of 15 and CF had a max of 10. I think it would be odd for the first mainline console animal crossing game in over a decade to stray under 10. That's the absolute minimum I'd expect & I'd be surprised if that ended up being true.

Let's not forget we can build on the sand now! That alone increases our workable area quite a bit compared to previous games (especially with three sides being beach + the beach being bigger). So even if the map is not too much bigger than NL, it's still a lot more usable.

I think they will stick with 10 like Neew Leaf. Since the Island is not huge, Nintendo probly does not want it to be to crowed as you are allowed to put funiture outside. I am also guessing though, that Nintendo wants you to also have a wide variety of villagers on your island as well, so you can have more that you want and more to intract with.

This is a great idea imo! They could let us have a maximum of 10-12 and then let us decide if we want less. I wouldn't want my island to be too crowded and I think I could settle for about 8 villagers if I liked them all.

The idea of setting a own limit sounds pretty good actually, I didn't thought about this. Like let's say
you can have up to 15 villagers but if you don't wanna have so many, you can set yourself a limit with
a minimum of 5 in total. That would also give you the freedom to plan much better your island if you
prefer to have more space for PWPs and such rather than having lots of villagers. Plus it would also
make each players island even more unique as everyone has a different number of villagers then. I
sure hope they gonna implement this.
