Hey all, I’m getting into the process of restarting my town and starting anew. In my old town Moonsong, I’ve fully expanded my 4 mayor and alts’ houses, because I thought that “bigger is better”. However, I found myself not knowing what to do with all of that empty space (I found it especially hard for areas like the bedroom and bathroom, as they are usually smaller rooms) and those rooms just seemed... barren and boring. House #1: living room, bathroom, bedroom, kitchen. House #2: living room, bathroom, bedroom, kitchen. House #3: … and so on. I didn’t really have a solid theme with my town, other than the houses being pink, blue, purple, and yellow.

I want to know what you all think: To what extent do you upgrade your houses? What kind of themes do you have in mind when decorating them? Do you make them all generic homes or design them into restaurants, hotels, or any of the sort?

Thank you for reading! 😄

I updated my house to the max but I had no idea what to do at first, now I wish there was more space
I don’t have a specific theme for my house, there’s the classic bedroom, kitchen and bathroom and the rest of the rooms are just more bedrooms for some reason
My main room is a mermaid themed room, I have a study(?) room with a bed for some reason, a kid’s bedroom, another bedroom, a kitchen and a bathroom
Honestly I’d just describe my house as chaotic and random aha

I always tried to include at least two bedrooms in my houses, but I always end up putting 3 because why not LOL

Currently my mayors house it has the living room? I guess, and the upstairs that I updated once. I am getting the extra storage and another room (basement or back room) because I want a Halloween themed room but storage is coming first because well...;)

For my first mayor's house, I went all out expanding everything to the maximum size. It worked out because I wanted a big house using lots of furniture. I didn't make all of the traditional rooms for her house, but went with the idea that her house was used for hosting to make things a bit grander. The main room is the formal entry. The room on the right is a traditional Japanese tearoom. The room on the left is a Japanese spa type room. The back room is a zen garden. The upstairs is the mayor's personal bedroom. The basement is a samurai room.

Then, I decided to make a second character in the same town who was a simple farmer, so I kept his house small. The main room is fully expanded and is his main living space. The back room is 6x6 and is his outdoor storage area. The upstairs is also 6x6 and is a small bedroom. He doesn't have any other rooms in his house.

I'm currently working on my second town and my mayor in that town will have all rooms but I'm leaving some at 6x6 and expanding some to 8x8 depending on what seems to work best. The house is supposed to be a large Victorian home, so the main room will be a fancy parlor. The back room is fully expanded and is a study/library. The room on the right is a child's bedroom and I left it at 6x6. The room on the left will be a Victorian style bathroom and I'm probably going to leave it at 6x6. The upstairs is the mayor's bedroom and it's currently 6x6 but I may expand it fully once I start playing around with the layout. The basement is going to be an alchemy lab and I don't know yet if I'll want to leave it at 6x6 or expand it to 8x8.

I will be creating a second character in my second town and her home will be more of a public gathering space so I will probably have it fully expanded. The main room will be a statue gallery. The room on the right will be a music room. The room on the left will be a Mediterranean style public bathroom. The back room will be a fancy lounge area. The upstairs is still coming together in my mind but I'm thinking either some type of fancy Victorian style office or a throne room (I just really want to use the purple throne somewhere!). The basement will be that character's bedroom and main living space.

its so funny because ive had three copies of new leaf in my 7 years of playing and i've never had enough bells on any of them to fully upgrade my house! but now that i've finally made some money in the stalk market and could well afford the expansion, i really don't want to do it xD i only have a fully expanded main room and an extra storage room with 15 million igb just waiting to be spent.

in lots of themed towns, you get to see smaller houses that should resemble huts and i think they look cuter that way (especially with the whole cluttering and cottagey style)! i don't think it should be necessary to fully upgrade your house, even when it feels like that's all the game wants you to do

I did it to the max so I have more space, I think? It’s been a while actually, but i’ll check later.
My main room has the whole princess set.
Left room is a kitchen with some of the sweets furniture.
Middle room is a mermaid themed bathroom
Right room has a room of my favorite villager
Upstairs is a bedroom
The basement is an arcade with sleek furniture.
That‘s pretty much it I guess.

I have my mayor's house fully expanded, and it's designed with all my favorite furniture, so basically what my house would look like if i lived in AC. Upstairs is a bedroom, downstairs is a games room/den with a TV and pool table and lots of snacks (like the popcorn machine), main room is a living room, and the other rooms are a library, backyard, and kitchen.

I'm designing my town to be the AC version of Huis Ten Bosch, a Dutch/European-themed amusement park somewhat close to where I live. One character's house is a palace, with museum exhibits. One house is a fancy hotel. The last one is a health spa/forest getaway, and is more Japanese themed, like the health spa in the actual park.

I have so many ideas and rooms I want to include that I have to fully expand everything! But I also like the idea of smaller houses and rooms, and I would definitely have some if I made a second town with a different theme.

My mayor's house is fully expanded and have Zen castle architecture, Zen exterior, Zen fence, Zen postbox, bamboo door and golden roof (my town is an eco-friendly Zen town). In the very beginning, I knew I wanted a house that is modelled after what I would find enjoyable and comfortable in real life based on the existing furnitures available in the game. It took a lot of trading and effort to decorate the rooms because a lot of the furnitures and items are Welcome Amiibo items and unobtainable unless you have the Welcome Amiibo cards or trade online. I have a tea room optimised for Feng Shui in the main room, a backyard in the room at the back on the first floor, a kitchen and dining room in the right room on the first floor, a study room in the left room on the first floor, an entertainment, bathroom and laundry room in the basement, and a master bedroom on the second floor. The only room that is not completed yet is my study room.

I have a second character that I named Office and his house is also fully expanded and have modern house architecture, beige door, brown brick exterior, green roof, metal postbox and red brick fence (it'll be my town's one and only office building). This office building is currently under renovation and the only completed room is the hybrid garden. It will contain a lobby area in the main room, a hybrid garden in the room at the back on the first floor, a garage in the right room on the first floor, a convenience store in the left room on the first floor, an arcade and entertainment area in the basement, and a posh personal office on the second floor.

I'm still contemplating on making a village centre with three rooms but I want to complete the other two buildings before I get a third one. A multipurpose hall that I can decorate for events in the main room, a gym for the jocks in my town in the room at the back on the first floor, and an observatory on the second floor that you can use to view the whole town and the sky and stars

I have all the rooms but not expanded to full size. When they’re too big I feel obligated to fill them, I like it more cozy.

Oh wow, I didn’t expect this thread to resurface at all lol. For my next town, I’m definitely debating on whether or not I’ll update my 4 houses to full size. I like how some rooms can be big, like restaurant rooms, church halls, etc. But I also like the coziness that a small bedroom or bathroom might have to offer. I feel that having a fully upgraded room of either one is too big and when I design it, it doesn’t look to good on my end. Oh well, I’ll see when I do actually get started.

Same boat as you. Only upgraded my house once to match the size of villager interiors. I like creating cluttered spaces with a lot of plants.

Forgive the phone photo of my house but I was not feeling the drawn-out screenshot share to Twitter thing:

Wallpaper has to go because it doesn’t suit the room but is otherwise coming along nicely!

I always have a room that I've seen not many do, for most of my houses I have, a living room (main room), Bedroom (upstairs), Kitchen (North room), Bathroom (Right room), Utility Room (Left Room) and Event room (Basement)! I haven't seen someone really add an event room, I host birthdays, Christmas parties, Easter parties etc.

Wow, I’ve never thought of having rooms to host holidays or events! It does seem cool to have unique rooms and not just your standard bedroom, bathroom, kitchen etc. 😄

I also like having cluttered spaces, but for me, it looks I’m designing a garbage room lol. I almost never post screenshots from the game because of the whole upload to Twitter method. Nice house by the way!

I had a couple other houses in my main town and one of them I turned into a big mansion/Cinderella arrangement.
The other one I turned into a school.
I totally get what you're saying in that the normal house layout can be really bland after a certain time. But overall its just whatever you want to do with it is what you want to do with it.

Wow, it would definitely cool to make a castle! Maybe it’s because I don’t have much of an imagination when it comes to making homes, so that’s why I make it so bland lol. I definitely think I should add more variety to my homes.
I really think that home interior could almost be as important as the town exterior. You can have 4 characters with a maximum number of 24 rooms, which is a lot. You can have a really pretty town, and having uniquely designed houses really does sell the whole thing depending on your theme.

I think I dedicated one room as a ballroom of sorts with columns and princess furniture. Most of the house was in rococco furniture too. Downstairs was a spa and the lounge was all set in gorgeous sets.

My mayor's house has nearly every room expanded to its maximum. I wasn't liking the idea of having traditional rooms such as the kitchen, bathroom etc so I went with different themes. I wanted to create a house with the things I love. There is a cafe in the front room because I love baking. A bar which only sells coffee in the left room since I love drinking coffee. I wanted this room to seem as if it were outside so there are loads of plants. A clothes shop in the right room as I made my mayor a dressmaker. There is also a fairy garden in the basement and lastly a bedroom on the second floor.

I'm going to create another character for more storage space. I haven't decided on a name but I like the idea of her being being a witch who tells fortunes. Also thinking of keeping the front room 6x6 for a change. At first I thought bigger rooms, the better but now I usually get stuck with ideas to fill the empty spaces.

I thought of having my characters have different occupations with the houses being the shops or restaurants. I also thought about having a castle, zen house, restaurant, and maybe just one traditional house.

I went to a town where there were two castles and they were stunning. If you think about making one I would love to see it through your dream town!
