the action of delaying or postponing something.

I have this 1,000 word essay due Tomorrow or Friday (don't remember) And it's 70% of my grade. So... i have like 3 more hours until i go to sleep and i have done about 40% of the rough draft and i need to finish the rough draft and type the final draft and print it. But this site is just so much fun and i just don't feel like turning off my computer and doing the work.. How can i get my brain to function properly and be able to do my assignment for tomorrow?

In other words, how can i stop procrastinating? My brain just says "I'll just do it later..."

It's impossible. I can't put the phone down!
It's about willpower. Shut the computer down and go somewhere else. FOCUS! Don't let any devices or electronics be in your reach.

YES! Thank god i'm not the only one! :-: It's just like, my brain says "You have time to do it later..., There's still an hour left..., you can do it tomorrow morning..." And then i end up like now :-:

The answer is Simple but not easy. You just have to ignore your mind and just begin on the paper. Like I said it is as simple as that.

Getting your **** together.

Sounds harsh, but it's really the only way to stop procrastinating and start doing what needs to be done. We should progress in life not because we have to in order to keep up, but because we want to. Do that essay. Get that mark. Get that diploma and get that job!

My phone is next to me and every math problem I finish, (or 2 sentences on essays) I tell myself I earned a break. Like a half hour break...

XD I have the very same problem...with studying though. But luckily, I'm great at remembering things at the very last minute.. Just think of it like this:If you finish your paper, you might get a good grade and scores, and you want that, right? If so, ****ing work on it! xD

Honestly I get this too at times and it's so frustrating. I think you just need to get yourself into the zone for work, you have to be in the right conditions. For me, I find that going to a completely silent library, listening to some instrumental music (usually Zelda soundtracks), writing out a long to do list of stuff I need to get done, bringing a bottle of water with me and switching notifications off on my phone helps. A lot. I get a lot done when I'm in the right conditions. For me, I need to force myself into an environment which will allow me to block everything else out so that I force myself to do work. Make sure you've eaten properly before you study too as studying on an empty stomach is awful and distracting, as well as eating on a full stomach!

Ultimately you should be able to work out what study conditions you work best in are. At the same time, just make sure you don't overwork yourself, schedule in some breaks in your to do list! But definitely, writing out lists of things you need to get done each day in a notebook are crucial and great way to force yourself to get things done as crossing or ticking things off of a list is so satisfying.

You just do. If you want to stop procrastinating, you need to the power to stop and get started on your work.

I'm always procrastinating to the point where I'm finishing an essay in the period before I need to turn it in, so I can relate to this. We're all different but here's what sometime works for me, if I have enough will power than day. First off the hardest thing is getting started so once you do that it should be easier to focus, and make sure you reward yourself. So for when I'm writing an essay and I want to get on bell tree, whenever I think of hopping on this site I always tell myself I can once I finished writing the paragraph which helps a lot because I can focus on what I'm doing cause I know I get what I want sooner the faster I write it. Just make sure you keep your rewards very strict, so I would suggest only allowing yourself 5-10 minutes on bell tree if that's your reward. Don't ever go over the time you say you'll allow yourself at the very beginning because you'll never want to start your essay again and you'll be in the same boat you were in before.

Hey I'm on the same boat.xD

It's finals week and I have a 1,600 word essay for English and a 500-600 word essay due for French.:') Horray for last minute essays.

I find that I put off many things, even projects I enjoy! I think it may be in part to the times we live in. There's so much content and things to distract us (someone on a forum/social media to talk to, a video or a song to listen to, a "clickbait" article that can slowly steal away your time if you're not careful), so it can be hard to focus on the task at hand.

Sometimes, I find that sheer willpower is not enough. I may have to go through more extreme measures to make sure something gets done in time. If it's work (whether school or not), I'll just unplug the internet (or if you need to do research, block some sites so you can't go to them, I think there's some tools/apps for that). This may include hiding or moving phones/gaming devices as well!

I try to minimize anything that could be a roadblock in finishing (or starting) something. If it's a chore I hate, I try to "bite the bullet", and get it over with (so at least it's off my list for a while).

Sorry for my wall of text, hope something here was of help! :lemon:

there's apps you can download on your phone and computer that will can blacklist websites for you
i would do that when i had to study - blacklist all the distracting ones for like an hour, then when time's up you've earned a break!!

For me I find it hard to do work at home because there are a lot of things that easily distract me or gain my interest, so I prefer to try and get it done at school. It's easy to focus on it at school because everyone around me is completely meaningless to me. :)
