So I don't want to sound negative, I love this game and the changes Nintendo made are fantastic. I had such high hopes for this game and thought that since they included so many small details that the more important details would be thought of as well.

I played AC since GC and I think that's why I'm missing so much of the charm that GC and WW had. My biggest gripe with NL was that the villagers were too similar across their personalities and too friendly. I thought this would change in NH since many fans complained about this issue as well. I've come to the conclusion that the villagers in NH are 10x worse than NL.

My favorite villager in the entire world is Nibbles......now what's the point of me having Nibbles on my island??? She says the EXACT same thing as any other peppy villager. They all want to be pop stars. In the past, not ALL peppy villagers wanted to be pop stars or talked about this 24/7. They had hobbies like in WW they would all talk about interesting things that made their character unique. They would even be into a hobby for a certain amount of time and it was so fun to help them with their hobby. For example, in ww they would become obsessed with clothes for a few days and keep asking you to find a specific outfit for them. This hobby would last at least a few days which kept villagers feeling different even if they had the same personality. For example, maybe my one peppy villager is into clothes and the other is really into gardening. I remember I didn't even realize there were personality types in the older games because every character felt SOOO different. This only became apparent to me when NL came out.... and it wasn't nearly as bad as NH. Now I don't even see the point of having villagers with the same personalities on the island. They are copies of each other. I have Flora on my island who's peppy as well but I purposelessly avoid her because when she says the exact same thing Nibbles just said it ruins the immersion and my bond with Nibbles.

Don't get me wrong, I love all the updates from NH..... but I would gladly trade some of them just to have better dialogue and characters. I hardly play NH now because after you're finished terraforming, what's keeping you??? For me it was always the villagers and the sense of community. Now it just feels so hallow. Does anyone else feel this way??? I remember people saying this about NL and I really thought that since people were so outspoken that it would be improved in this game. It's just sad to me that this feels more like a town builder game than a life simulation.

Really really hoping for an update that will give villagers unique personalities. I feel like we have to be more outspoken about this so it gets changed/added.

My suggestion: In all the characters' biographies they have goals and skills! Why can't these be implemented more?! Like it says Nibbles wants to be a journalist. Why isn't she talking about being a journalist instead of a pop star? It also says that her skill is juggling.... why does she never mention this?? All the characters would feel so unique if they even had slight differences in dialogue like this. It makes it more special to have each character. Or even in NL for April Fools the characters all had siblings we would have to guess. Why don't they use this to talk about their families/ brothers or sisters?? It would be so much better. As silly as it sounds, I miss villagers being so charming, funny, and unique. I'm just so confused as to why they aren't in NH.

Anyways, don't know if anyone will read this whole thing, but I really needed to speak about this. I'm still trying to stay positive and hope that it will all come in a future update.

That is a good point though! They take a lot of time to give each villager unique little traits and facts about their aspirations and hobbies in their bios. It would be neat to see them added in every now and then.

Yes!! It could be even slight variations in dialogue and it would honestly make all the difference!

I haven't had duplicates personalities stay on my island long enough to experience it myself but each type has two versions. You don't get those unique dialogue until friendship level 5-6.

The other problem is that you need to talk to them a lot throughout the day to get pass the contextual dialogue of digging up fossils, burying money, and other player visitors and the extra players on your island.

But I do agree that the dialogue could be a lot better since they all have career goals.

But... personalities were always copies of each other. We just didn't dig nearly as deep into game mechanics when we played all those years ago. Hobbies like in WW weren't character-specific, they were randomly chosen. NH giving each villager a sub-personality that influences what idle activities they can do is the closest thing we ever had to unique qualities.

That's not to say it wouldn't be amazing if they went the extra mile to make these unique touches... but that's just something the series plain needs, not something that used to be there and is now missing.

I replayed WW, CF, and GC while waiting for NH and I can assure you that they were very different. Yes, sometimes they might repeat the same thing, but now all same villager types ALWAYS repeat the same thing. It wasn't a once in a while occurrence. And I know they might not have been character specific, but it made it FEEL character specific because they were always into different things.

they are not all the same. Just like mentioned before when further in friendship the dialogues chance. Also each villager has 3 different things to do. Some do yoga, some sing, run around, look at bugs, plants, trees, water the flowers, sport. So not all peppy villagers do the same 3 things :)

I was an avid player of NL, and when I revisited it a while back a noticed that both of my smugs liked to repeat each other’s lines. A lot. Maybe I’m just unlucky but I feel like repeat villagers mimic each other a lot.

That's really interesting! I didn't realize they can do different things. I wish they would also talk about this too!

I also had the same problem in NL. I was just saying that it wasn't AS bad as it is in this game. But that was one of my major complaints about that game as well. :/

Thanks for adding this point!! I now avoid villagers of the same personality as my favorites since I hate that they are exactly the same. As much as it pains me, I'll try to get to know the others as well as my favorites to confirm if it's different or not.

All villagers can do all the hobbies but each one has a main type. I had Bianca, Flora, and Tangy. Bianca and Flora would do lots of Naruto runs but they also carry their shopping bags and work out. Tangy's hobby is singing and she sings more often but I've seen her carry her shopping bag and workout as well.

We never played the older games except for a bit of WW, but the villagers having unvaried dialogue is incredibly glaring. It can be annoying if you were in a boat like us where you had 4 normal villagers at one point, and given the 10 villager limit almost all players are going to have doubles with personalities.

I agree that the dialogue could use a lot more work, but at the same time, there are nearly 400 villagers in NH. It's a bit unrealistic to expect every villager to have their own unique dialogue.

If they just made each personality have way more depth, I would be happy!

Thanks for sharing! :) That's defintiely an improvement! I'm going to pay more attention to this now!

Yes exactly!!

NH has more dialogue variation (every personality has subtypes which wasn’t a thing before) however it is annoying that you have to talk to them multiple times to get past the repeat “so and so got some fossils and yada yada” stuff. means we see it less and i think that why people complain

I definitely understand that and think you made a valid point. I still feel as if there's sneaky things they can do to make them seem different too! I also would love that! I also feel as though the villagers are the core of the game and that it should be treated as such. I would've been happy with less villagers and more unique dialogue, but that's not what they decided. I also think they did a great job with the dialogue but it loses the charm when all my villagers say it to me 4 times in a row.

Very good points! I've been wishing for this sorta thing as well. Any changes to their personalities would definitely go a long way in this game.

Yeah I agree with you, I've played all English AC games and the dialogue really starting dwindling around ACCF. Of course dialogue repeats because there's only so much you can say, but even playing ACCF, having repeat personalities doesn't seem to have repeat conversations nearly as much as NH.
Also, with lots of fetch quests being gone, it makes the villagers feel even less interactive. It all just feels a bit cosmetic now instead of interactive. Even delivering mail in WW because Pete was too slow was fun, especially when you were rude and peaked at the letter. If you did this to a snooty villager........

I think they could rework it by not having each villager start with the same dialogue literally every day when you first talk to them. I'm sick of reading one line of text and then the conversation ends already. And it's either about bugs, autobiographies, feeling downright sunny, or it being a nice day for a walk.

With the subtypes I notcied that the same personalities usually have the same subtype. My normals are into education/reading. My peppy villagers are into fashion. It would help if they talked about these more as well because just doing a different action really isn't doing it for me.

YES THANK YOU. This.

Even the backstories with the NPCs were the best! I miss those! There were so many cute little surprises like that.

Oh my gosh I miss peeking at their mail and opening their presents! In wild world Tiffany was my nemesis because she always said I had ugly clothes so I used to always do things like this to get her mad lol..... but after a while we became friends and she got a lot nicer to me and it was really cool to see that character development.
