• Happy Easter! Here's what we have going on at The Bell Tree:

If I make my new switch my primary console, will it overwrite the island from my old console?

I'm having trouble transferring my island from my old (and broken) switch to my new switch. I've tried using island backup restoration but Tom Nook keeps saying he can't find any backup data. Nintendo customer support said they can help but first I'll need to make my new switch my primary console. But if I do this, will my island be overwritten? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I just want to make sure this process is safe before I go through with it.

The island will not be overwritten/erased on the old Switch. Basically, what enabling primary console does is let you play eShop content offline, which affects the Happy Home Paradise DLC, but is also used for island backup. I've done the process before when I upgraded to my OLED, and was easily able to delete the save data off my old Switch without affecting anything on the new one.

Also, make sure that the microSD card you're using (if you have a new one) is of larger or equal size to the one in your broken Switch.

Thank you!

I pretty much did the same and then I started a new Island on my old Switch. Haven’t checked in on it since I created it but that one is more for experimenting with terraforming and creating water flow and a place to sell Turnips and other items for more Bells.
