I've been holding this persons's stuff for about two days so they can switch towns. It's in my cycling town, and people have told me that if villagers put their houses down on their stuff, it'll probably disappear because I don't have a police station. Because of that, I haven't been able to cycle. That night they said it was late so they would come by the next day to pick up their stuff but they didn't and they haven't been online. I was actually expecting them to pick it right back up after they restarted. I understand they wanted to sleep because it was late though. I would PM or VM them about it, but they have VMs disabled and their inbox is full. The night they came by I even told them their inbox was full and they just asked me to talk to them in the thread instead, and didn't clear their inbox.

Should I just get an alt to hold their stuff so I can continue to cycle and not risk their stuff disappearing? And how long is too long to be holding it? I know it's only been two days but I don't know when they're going to be online again or if something happened on their end. What would you guys do in my shoes? :/

Save the stuff in the locker? If you don't have more space then create a character temporarily, if you can't create more characters then hold them for the weekend at least.

An alt is indeed a good option. Maybe tell us what the stuff you're holding us without going into details? If it's easily replaceable and you really want to get back to cycling you might just go on an when the person gives you a reaction again you can pay the stuff back. Either way, as I said, I think an alternative person to hold the stuff would be a good solution.

Thanks. I only have one character so I was planning on making another just to store their stuff so I don't get theirs mixed up with mine considering they have quite a bit of the same stuff as me. I just didn't want them to get upset or anything, or think I'm trying to steal their stuff.

I considered you didn't have any storage space more, but yea, just store it on another character. Maybe just make a quick list to keep track of which stuff is from who?

They dropped a ton of bells, some Gracie items (some of which I do not have), I think they have some Nintendo Zone DLC, HHA items from getting high scores, holiday exclusive items, sloppy set (which I don't have), etc. I don't want them to lose their rare stuff and I can't really replace all of it.

Thank you guys for your advice!!

A list.. yeah. I'll do that.

Should I tell the person on the thread (even though they won't see it until they get back online) that I'm storing their stuff so they don't think I messed with it to make it seem like I stole some of it? :/

There is no need for a list, just store everything that is theirs in that alt character. I wouldn't tell them in the thread (what for?), I would tell them when (if) they ever come back (Hey, I had to store your stuff in the locker of a new character since I was worried a new house would maybe make you lose some stuff :D).

I actually started the list and realized that exact same thing. I won't have anything else stored on that character.
I'm so sorry for so many questions, I think this is the last one, but at what point would you say "Okay well I guess they're not coming to get their stuff" because I know for sure it's much longer than 2 days. Would it be like a month or something?

Np, since it's something that has no real impact for you, I would store them for as long as possible, but yeah after a month (way earlier actually) nobody would think you did wrong.

I've held people's stuff for over a week! But it definitely depends on if they're contacting you back and letting you know how long they'll be. I think a month would be a very reasonable time to wait for them (but at the same time, what would you do with all those extra items afterwards? :/). Most people will come back, so just be patient!

Okay, thank you so much for all your help!

Wow, that's quite a while. I wouldn't have even posted this if they had been online or telling me they may be delayed a bit ;-; I just didn't want to put off my cycling for an unknown amount of time due to their items on the ground. I don't know what I'd do with them honestly. Thank you as well for your answer :)

Honestly, I think it's quite rude to ask someone to hold your stuff, and then not come back to pick up AS SOON AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE. I've reset and had people hold my stuff before, and I've gone to pick up as soon as I got a map. Sometimes that was 30 minutes, sometimes that was a few hours. I NEVER made anyone wait for me for more than 24hrs. That would be unfair and just outright ungrateful of me.
Your situation is why I don't offer to hold stuff for people anymore. I've had someone do this to me once, and that just puts me off helping anyone else ever again. I have a life to tend to, and on my free time, the last thing I want to do is worry about someone else's items that were left in my town, and were supposed to be picked up as soon as they restarted.
But hey, that's just me. You're being a lot kinder/nicer about it than I would be; and so is the girl that said she would hold someone's stuff for a month. The only way I'd hold someone else's stuff for a whole month is if they paid me or were a good friend of mine. So props to you for being so nice and kind :)

Opinionated words over. The extra character idea is the best one.

i agree with the storage thing, but also- it's pretty crappy of someone to dump their stuff in your town and then not give you a way to contact them when you need it gone or out of the way. i understand you're doing the right thing and being kind about it- but that irks me that they haven't even contacted you to pick it up or even really reply back to you.

Trust me, I'm actually incredibly annoyed with this person. I would really love to just sell all their stuff but I think I'd feel too guilty about it if I didn't at least give them a chance. The thing that annoys me the most is that they refused to give me any other way to contact them other than through the thread they made. I don't get pop up notifications that way the way I do with private messages (thank the gods for that though, I'd get too many if I got some for a reply to every thread I've subscribed to) and so once I agree to trade with someone or get together for something, I like being able to message each other either through PM or VM. But yeah, I can totally understand taking the time to get the map you want or whatever, but 48+ hours? That's kind of insane. I really hope they have some good reason as to why they've left me hanging so long :/
I definitely won't be holding onto things for anyone ever again unless they're friends with me.

I've put all their bells in my ABD and their items in my locker. It irks me too though. I had to make someone wait a long time to pick up Merengue just so I could store their stuff. Not really fair to either of us if you ask me. >.>

I'm actually really glad you guys agree with me though, I felt I was being unreasonable but I guess I was wrong. >.>

I agree 100% and I've said similar things about this situation.

People have already recommended making an alternate character and storing stuff with them, since it's a very convenient and the easiest way approachable to store stuff. However if you can't end up doing that, I really don't mind helping and holding the stuff for you :)

Thank you, that's so kind of you :) I've already made the alt character and collected the items, but I really appreciate the offer!
