I saw an amazing island on YouTube that was a natural island and they focused on green. (Pears) They used a dirt path and generally white or green items. Between interesting sections they just had woodsy areas. The island had no flowers at all and I didn't even notice until it was pointed out. Many people may have called the island plain. And if you are a clutter core decorator, you may have even called it empty looking.

Point being it was still an amazing island that looked nice, and was still playable and navigable.

Sometimes I wonder if we try too hard to make our islands look special.

That sounds like a really nice island. It gives me the idea to focus on being more natural with my designs instead of trying to over complicate it. Maybe try and simplify my theme.

Pretty much! There's a couple of things I'd still like to add, namely a few Spider Crabs, but other than that it's all finished now, and all of the homes on the island are 100% customized as well. I think it would have come out better if the 2.0 didn't drop after I was 80% completed with the island, but I'm still happy with it.

I can't think of anything else I really need to do other than maybe trying to finish the ridiculous crafting achievements, but I think it's a waste of my time right now when I have better things to do than repeat the same thing over and over again in the most sluggish way possible.

Yeah on Youtube it was called "Simple & Minimal Aesthetic Natural Island Tour" It should pop right up if you want to look at it for inspiration. I am trying to keep it in mind while I am doing mine.

I selected almost done. However, it's been that way for months. I can see a broad idea like "zen garden", but have trouble with the tiny details. Honestly a lot of the islands on Pinterest and Instagram look good because of the little details that they put.

I've been done with my island for awhile now. Admittedly I wanted to avoid terraforming my island as much as possible, so that helped make it easier to feel like I was done with it, lol. I never really changed it for over a year aside from one small thing prior to stopping playing daily, so I was pretty content with the point I got it to.

When I recently went back on the forums about a week ago I decided to work on my island more. I'm going for a citycore theming, and I am now starting to work on the park area which is in the bottom right of the island. It'll include a boardwalk with attractions added to it because why not?

I'm looking to get done soon so I won't have to pick it up again, only for future TBT events where I straight up have to. This way I won't feel deep down in the blues when the time does come and I look at an unfinished mess so I can put it down until next time.

Kind of? All my areas are mapped out but I’ll occasionally find something where I have to put it out.

Whenever I had NH, I never finished an island except for one. The only one I finished was a very simple citycore island. I was somewhat proud of it, but I didn’t have the motivation to improve it at all lol

I would say my island is about 75% done. There's a lot of areas that I am so happy with that I don't see myself changing them again, but there are also some significant areas that are unfinished. A lot of unfinished beaches... the beach is difficult.

it's still a work in progress, there's lots of small areas that are done but i still need to move houses around and connect the areas together. i have lots of empty area that needs filling, but i think i finished the larger projects i needed to do :>

Nah, I'm near constantly changing my mind as to what I definitively want my island layout to be. I just came back to the game after nearly 3 years of inactivity and am currently majorly changing the layout. I doubt that I will ever be 100% content with my island lol.

Never as its always going to be a work in progress be it from me coming up with a cool idea or just let teh villagers come up with ideas on their own.

An update for October 2023 I am still not finished with my island I keep redesigning my island as I want to be 100000% happy

i’ve been playing new horizons since the day of release, but i only managed to finish my entrance throughout the last three years 😭

Apparently I already voted here but didn't say anything. Well, I picked the last option. I've had my island since 2020 and haven't really gotten around to do anything towards designing it...
It's not helping that my island is overrun by flowers and I keep dropping items around because I can't finish all my house payments to get more storage space. I can't even motivate myself because doing anything about it feels exhausting to me.
