January update speculation

You may want to do a once over on your ball ;) The event may take place in Feb not Jan but Pavé is getting announced next update, they were already teased by Nintendo directly in the last video

I never saw that video... Now I feel stupid.

Seeing that the Update is going to be in "Late January" in that video, that would make a bit more sense. At the same time, it also makes for quite an event drought after New Year's. I really was hoping they were going to introduce the next update just after new years, so we could look forward to starting the year off in a grand way... But I guess not.

I am expecting it to be the last substantial update. Maybe we will get some minor additional features along with the new festivals? I believe that any updating after the first year of the game will be a token effort (if it happens at all).

I would really like to be wrong about this, of course. It's just a suspicion that I can't shake. It feels like the holidays have been being pared down and that everything is winding down already.

What I would most like to see would be an improved system for placing furniture outside. I would really like a system like Sims 3 Seasons where I can choose which seasonal furniture should be out at which time of year (preferably by month) without having to replace or decorate by hand. It would be amazing to use this system to hide flowers during winter. Also, there could be hidden storage for any of the furniture that gets placed seasonally, so on off seasons you still don't have to worry about manually storing it. Imagine decorating for each month once and being able to pick up the game at any time and know it would automatically be seasonally appropriate.

Shortly after the game was released it was announced that ACNH will be getting regular updates for at least 3 years. Granted, we don't know the extent of these updates, so you using the term 'substantial' is hopefully wrong. If 3 years of updates just means 'here's some new hats' I'll be pissed lol

The winter update was teased as "late November", and was released November 19th. Now, if the next update is coming late January, then it most likely releases between 18th to 23rd.

Festivale always happens on the Monday before Mardi Gras. Meaning, February 15, 2021. If the event won't happen until then, then surely there has to be something else included. There's over 3 weeks between the update's release date and the event.

Seeing as they now have regional items available for everyone, and these are often linked to real world events/dates, there's also a possibility that they release something related to the Brazilian Carnaval, the Italian Carnivals and/or Mardi Gras (I think it has French origins but it's more commonly known as an american event).

I wouldn't be surprised if we got Brewster in the next update. It's a small thing, but in NL, he always served hot cocoa for Valentine's Day, so maybe he'll finally show up just so he can do that. Plus, I feel like maybe once we do finally get him, he might have something to do with all the snacks we've seen the villagers walking around with, so maybe his café will offer food this time around, too, that can be bought to-go like the coffee in NL. Even if we don't get him in January, I'd be surprised if we didn't get him within the first year of updates.

Otherwise, I loved Festivale in NL, so of course I'm excited for that, but also hoping for a furniture upgrade. As much as I enjoyed collecting all of it, the Pavé furniture always went straight to Re-Tail afterwards.

That interview gets taken out of context so often that the "3 years of updates" bit is now considered fact :< if you're talking about the producer interview after the game was released, all that's said is "we hope players will notice new things 1-2 years after release" (paraphrasing). They don't confirm anything beyond bunny day in that interview, iirc. I'll find it and edit it in. I don't mean to call you or specifically, I just see this passed around so often and accepted as the truth when they haven't confirmed anything beyond this first year, and it's very frustrating.
Edit:
here's the interview
, here's the part in question :

pavé is pretty much guaranteed to be in the update, isn't he? I'm pretty sure he has been explicitly shown. I think a festivale event with catchable feathers, especially used to make DIYs, would fit very well in New Horizons. I assume the event will be somewhat like what it was in New Leaf at least.

I don't think we will get the festivale set but I really hope the furniture we do get won't be super ugly (like the egg day event with the ugly egg furniture...), it feels much more fun to play an event when the reward is something you actually want to have.

I agree with this potentially being the last of the larger updates - if it happens late Jan then that's only a little bit before the one year anniversary of the game, so there'll maybe be something else around march but beyond that I feel like it'll only be smaller updates.
in terms of content I want to see I'd absolutely love Brewster, and I think as people have said this makes sense with Valentine's Day coming shortly after the update. I'd also love to see Kapp'n reintroduced in some form but I'm not sure this is a realistic dream of mine. I am excited to see Pave again though - he always (literally) brightens up the town

I think it migjt be the last major update. But I would hope that we might get some minor updates relaeasing a few more minior holidays next year. I could see them wanting to focus on the major events forst. Ultimatly its anyones guess and we will just have to wait and see.

I think it is important to note they are expecting another great year after night sales this year with the game. So that might buy us another year of updates.

I predict the update will drop Friday, 29th of January since I'm assuming Pave will have an event in February. I don't know what to expect, but these may be something we see

1. New Nook's Cranny upgrade. (much needed now after 9 months)
2. Roost (It's winter in Japan, a cup of hot coffee would be nice)
....and less of a chance...maybe 3. Re-tail?

I do not expect to see any QOL chances, but will continue to hold out for them
Post automatically merged:

I also doubt we'll get Shamrock Day because we don't have lucky clovers anymore.

That's nothing a little update can't fix. We didn't have pumpkins pre Halloween update.

So obviously Pave and Festivale will be added, but there has GOT to be more. I say that because if there isn't then that means the next update probably won't be until March for the game's one year anniversary. If Festivale is the only thing that happens between New Years and March 20th...yikes. I'm crossing my fingers that Valentine's Day and Shamrock Day get actual at least mini-events like they used to and aren't reduced to a Nook Shopping order. Brewster and The Roost would be perfect for Valentine's Day, but I feel like is Brewster was coming in the next update then they would've teased it.

Festivale in February.
Holidays like Shamrock Day and Valentine's Day getting limited time Nookstop items.

Maybe Brewster and the Roost.

I kinda like that they didn't put everything in right away. I know there are people complaining that they sold 'an unfinished' game but with the events/updates you have something to look forward to and it keeps interesting. I think the being able to grow your own vegetables in a garden would be interesting and then have certain recipes and depending on what it is it increases your villagers friendships or you get new items or emotes

Pavè is a definite shoe-in, possibly some new reactions and SLIGHTLY POSSIBLY new customization (new mouths would be awesome-maybe the item could called something like “mouth exercises”).

I’m betting that the content update after this one (and maybe the Mario furniture update) will have more interesting stuff.
