No hat and patterns for your hat also count. Roses count as accessories and other flowers count as hats.

found him once... he gave me a piece of furniture. i changed my clothes and headgear, but i haven't been able to find him again for 15 minutes after putting the furniture in my house, lol.

Hopefully, he won't be as annoying to find as Franklin the turkey was. After you run out of hints from your neighbors it gets somewhat tedious to find him.
