Kinda tempted to restart my island (without resetting the game)

So, I finally have all the villagers I wanted, and now I have many more items and diys that I didn't have before. Initially, I wanted to make a very deep forest, with a more natural, rural vibe, but I ended up having an island that's a lot more urban than I wanted.

The funny part is that this feeling of "wanting to change something without having certainty if I really want to change" came up just as I finally finished what I was envisioning for my island in the last few months.

I'm really not sure what to do.

is there any small areas of your island you could change as a test run? maybe a spot on the rocks or the beach? What you could do is revamp a small area, see if you like it and then look at your island again with fresh eyes

The north section of the island is closer to what I want. There's a river that "cuts" the island in half and most of the island after the river is way more "urban" than I wanted it to be. I may end up using The Path after all, as it and the dirt path are the ones I think would look the most appropriate. I also get that I'll possibly give up on the 5 star rating, as I want a lot of trees and I'm currently at the limit of 200 trees. Maybe I can figure out a way to distribute them better so I can stay under the limit?

That's great advice!

That second bit was something that I did notice. I know that you were going for a nature reserve but I got more of an arboretum vibe from it. I’m not sure how much you’d be willing to do this but I’d suggest putting your houses closer together in one area and dedicating more of your land to natural builds.

Yeah, I wanted to have the houses more scattered around the island, and they would be placed according to the villagers' species, like, I would have Bill, Camofrog and Alfonso close to a river (I thought about making a big lake, inspired by some photos I saw from places like Montana, some parts of Canada and Iceland). Fang and Whitney would live close to each other and their houses would ideally be placed in the woods on the clifftop. Megan should probably live in a similar area, but closer to the sea level.

Marshal should probably live near Megan, but not too close. The hard part would be to find a suitable place for Felicity, Phoebe and Marina, as they're not exactly forest animals. I could place Marina's house very near the beach (or on the beach), kinda like it is right now. Felicity, as a cat, is more of an "urban" animal, so I think it would be better if she lived near the resident services building (which is also in the same area I thin my house should be).

Phoebe is complicated, as I honestly don't know the what the habitat of an ostrich is, but also because she mimics a phoenix more than anything.

Ostriches live in savanna climates, which typically are flat, hot areas with only a couple sparsely scattered trees and a lot of tall grasses. That might be a bit hard to duplicate in a small space (unless you get another savanna animal like a lion (or Savannah herself lol)), and the fact that she’s actually a Phoenix is another complication.

Yeah, and I like her. It's hard because she's the only Uchi villager that I really like (I like Agnes too, but her species also doesn't make much sense in this kind of island).

Wild boars can be found in forested areas, if you’re willing to stretch the definition of a wild boar just a bit (though Boris might fit that just a bit more).

I was giving a second look at the uchi list, and excluding species I already have, species that would fit and some villagers I really don't like that much, a list of possible replacements would have Shari, Pashmina and Canberra (Tammy could be on the list if I treat cubs and bears a being really different, I think).

Of the three listed, I’d probably say Pashmina fits the most cohesively with what you’ve already got (though I also like Canberra and Shari). I’d say Deirdre fits the natural theming the most, but since you’ve not included her in that list you’re likely not interested in her (I’m also biased towards her since she’s my favorite sisterly lol)

Yeah, I have to agree that Pashmina and Deirdre are the most fitting.

If you want Canberra, I would be more than happy to let you know when she finally decides to move off my island. Lord knows I'm trying to get her to decide to be the next one to go. >.<

If you really want to undo your entire Island without restarting what I would do is move all the buildings (shops, homes, museum) to the beach and then use the island app to tear down everything on your island and make bare to start from scratch so you can get an idea of what you want your island to be. I did this way back in May 2020 when I had to redo my entire island. Took me a really long while but eventually I got it to where I wanted it to be and I was very happy with it. Idk if it will work for you but thats what I did in my experience.

What I do if I'm gonna make big changes is take screenshots, that way if it goes sour I can use them as references to fix it back up

I'm starting to feel like I'll have that problem very soon, originally I wanted a very rural, foresty and overgrown type of vibe to my island but it's gotten progressively more urban as I've gone along, bit worried all this hard work will be for nothing soon lmao, but we'll see

Yeah, it's the same situation, and I think many people found themselves in the same situation because the game has a huge focus on external furniture but in reality, most of it is more suited to be placed indoors. So we had to work with what we had, and this is the spot in which we're in :/

The way I worked it with my natural island was that I secluded almost every house and building to the bottom of the map, and built up the rest sorta haphazardly with little buildings in the way. However, my island goes WAY into natural to the point where I call it feral. If you’re trying to have an island that feels somewhat like a normal place to live throughout I’d suggest not doing what I did.

And even still, I’ve started to rebuild my island (because I felt some elements didn’t work with the base layout I had).

Yeah. I found myself running out of exterior decorations and had to start making more urban things with the traditionally indoor items, definitely like some of it, but think it's starting to overtake my original wishes for the island D:

I've been considering completely redoing some parts of my island now that I have more furniture items and DIYs but it's honestly such a daunting task now that I've got all my buildings and everything placed!! I wouldn't even know where to start honestly and I'm not 100% convinced that if I redid things I wouldn't just make them 1000x worse than they are now haha
