Nintendo has experimented a lot with their control schemes, some obviously to better results than others. Which of their controllers have you disliked the most?

I feel like this is a weird pick but I have to say I really dislike the Wii's classic controller. It seems like it should be a step up from the Super Nintendo Controller but it just never feels quite right and the joysticks feel off to me. I tried playing Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask with it recently and even the basic movement feels off.

I guess the SNE controller seems pretty awkward to hold, personally I liked the simplicity of the Wii controller BUT it was awkward to play certain games with it. I'll go with the Joy-cons for the switch, since they aren'y very ergonomic to hold .-.

joycons because of how junky they are, otherwise i'd say the wii remote sideways was not good at all

I was all set to say that it was probably the Wiimote & Nunchuck since, whenever possible, I'd always prefer to use a GameCube controller or Classic Controller when playing a Wii game.

However, after seeing FreeHelium and Stalfos' posts just above mine, I'm going to have to say I dislike the Joy-Cons more because of the inherent, persistent design flaw that leads them to eventually drift. I had initially overlooked them because I never use them, always opting for either the Pro Controller or GameCube controller (for Smash Bros.) instead, because I don't want to deal with the possibility of the Joy-Cons drifting. Also, the $79.99 price tag, when you consider that it's likely they'll eventually drift and need replacing, is really off-putting.

Do you use a wired or wireless GC controller for the switch? A friend of mine bought the wireless ones and he says they're a piece of junk because the wireless connection gets lost very often. So I wonders if it all wireless GC controllers or if his were faulty 🤔

I use wired GameCube controllers from the original GameCube console, not any of the new stuff. I own a Wavebird from back then too but I've never tried it on the Switch. I plug the controllers into the GameCube Controller Adapter and plug that into the USB ports on the Switch's dock.

I might have to look into the adapters then, I still do have one or two GameCube controllers left thanks to the backward compatibility of the Wii. Thanks for the reply!

my joycons are honestly just a decorative piece standing in their grip by my tv now lmao. im playing mostly docked these days and the joycons as others have said are sssoooo fragile!! i rarely use them, unless i play in hand held. lately ive been using the 8bitdo sn30 pro+ controller. the name is a lot but theyre a lot less expensive than the pro controllers and way more comfy + affordable imo

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Nintendo 64 controller yet. The buttons and D-Pad are stiff, the Z-button is at a weird place, and the analog stick just doesn't last. I will admit that the shape of the controller gets too much flack. As odd as it looks, both grip options are surprisingly comfortable, especially when you only hold the sides. Unfortunately, most games don't the D-pad, so there aren't many opportunities to hold it that way.

Going to say joy-cons are my least favorite with the Wii controller being a close runner-up.

I would say the Wii Remote. I remember that whenever I had the chance to use the GameCube controller instead, I used that. I didn't like using it, but I used it sometimes if I had to.

I gotta go with joycons. Not only do they easily have drifting problems which render them useless unless they get fixed, but they're so small and awkward to hold if you're holding just one of them. Playing Smash with them is the worst if you're with a group of friends.

Joy-cons. At least my Wii remote worked. I feel like it conned me out of my joy when my character launched themselves off a cliff

I also agree with the Joy-Con. I've never had to get any controller repaired in the past because I'm very careful with them and take good care of them but the Joy-Con will drift even if you try to take good care of them just from use. I've had 2 pairs, 1 for a year and 1 for less than a year. The ones that I got a few months ago are already drifting so so bad and now that I'm using the older ones they're starting to drift too. I know it's something Nintendo's still working on but they're just a disaster lol.

(they're also the cause of one of my biggest pet peeves but that's not their fault hahahhaha)

I can't stand the N64 controller design. The analog stick in the middle, d-pad on the far left and button on the far right... it's just so weird to me personally. I'm surprised so many people are saying the joy-cons. Functionally I think it's a great controller. Motion controls, can be played as a smaller controller or together as a bigger controller. The drift is the main thing holding it back and I actually have never experienced it myself despite them getting a lot of use. It's a fixable issue which is good at least.

I also echo above with regards to joy-cons. I really hate them. My B button doesn't work and I can't move down on the L controller. But I also need them :/ It's such a shame that with normal use, these controllers just stop functioning correctly, and they are being sold for such a large amount of money! But alas...

The joy cons are trash for sure. I barely play any games on the switch (mostly on other consoles) and it's drifting.
