Zelda Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom

I’m loving the game so far, but enemies are definitely much harder than any other Zelda game, even BotW in my opinion! I absolutely love that they made it more challenging, and I think the shrines in TotK are way better than BotW too.

Well...I'm definitely going to replay BotW before I play TotK then! I need to save money anyway so I don't mind putting it off for a while longer. If the difficulty increased getting familiar with the enemies and controls again should help me have a more enjoyable playthrough.

I got the game today, and played for about an hour. - I'm definitely enjoying it...but, I also don't love the building gimmick. I mean...it's neat, I guess. But, it's honestly another thing to kind of hide the game's limitations. (If you didn't need to build things to get around the world...you would explore things much faster, and I assume it would feel a lot smaller and perhaps a bit uninspired as a result. Just, IMO.

Still...lots of fun. (Just letting my switch charge up for a while and I'll go right back to it).

Luckily I can tell you that it's not just a cheap gimmick. Yes, the landmass you traverse is (MUUUUUCH) bigger but a) some inventions you will build will make traversing not just faster but actually fun (never liked riding horses myself), you'll get a function that helps you so you don't have to build the same stuff over and over and last but certainly not least: The mechanic is WAY more important than traversal. Shrines are much harder and more complex now and solving puzzles in shrines and on the overworld is really fun now (and gets complicated) - this coming from someone who hated the shrines in Botw.

I just hope the Great Fairies are back....

If you want to know:
They're back. But unlocking them is now - like everything else - harder and requires more action on your part (which I like).

Everything about the game is harder (in a very balanced/fun sort of way). I actually like shrines now because they require thought (even the earlier once when in Botw most early 50 shrines were total pushovers).
Can't believe how challenging this game is, considering it's a Nintendo game ...

Just got my copy yesterday and played for like 5 hours so far, I'm having a blast and have to agree the the game is much more challenging then I remember BOTW being at the beginning, but definitely in a good way. I'm really having to use my tiny brain a lot which is what I love most about Zelda games, and there's so many different ways to complete puzzles and challenges it definitely rewards creativity.

I'm just loving the new abilities the most so far they're very unique and honestly just super cool, can't wait to mess around more and see all that I can do with them.

I’m having fun with the game so far. I’ve cleared the Wind and Water Temples and activated about five of the Skytowers. Also learned that any horses you registered in BotW are automatically registered in TotK.

So far I'm not all that sad that "traditional Zelda" won't come back (I have to mention that I wasn't all that pleased with Botw instead of an oldschool Zelda title with classical items and dungeon progression) because Tears of the Kingdom delivers in spades what I want most from Zelda: Good puzzles and exploration. Never though I'd say this when Botw was the latest Zelda title but this new direction is growing on me.

I actually love the free exploration and being able to think outside the box to solve puzzles and sometimes in very creative ways no one else has really thought of. I accidentally found out that the Wind Temple boss can be damaged by Link if you are falling and aren’t regaining Stamina to use the Paraglider and fall on top of the weak point on the back. The barrier will shatter on impact and the boss’s health bar will go down as if you hit it with an arrow but then you’ll also get a lot of damage to yourself and continue falling. I died once this way.

I think I have "broken" A LOT of shrine puzzles - in very creative ways I might add ;-P For every puzzle/chest I solve/reach as probably intended, there's one I feel really amazing about because the devs clearly didn't intend for my route.
This adds way more replayability to the game than traditional Zelda games (again: speaking as a fan of traditional Zelda games and someone who wasn't all satisfied with Botw). Overall I'd actually say that Tears is my favorite Zelda now (no. 1 spot have been Windwaker/Twilight P. for years now). I'm really surprised myself.

Just entered my first dungeon (water) after doing A LOT of exploration, collecting, questing and shrine-hunting. Feels amazing so far. I wouldn't even need Main missions to be satisfied with this game, that's how much I love the core mechanics.

I've read reviews that say this game has performance issues, can anyone tell me when they happen and how bad they actually are?
I got my switch back in June of 2017 (or whenever it released) and have only noticed very mild frame-rate drops if you're flying high up and quickly while it's raining, otherwise it's been super smooth and has never affected my actual game-play or enjoyment! Loads are also surprisingly fast for me, not more then 3-5 seconds most of the time.

Trust me that the building gets more fun as you go. You don't *need* to use it to get to specific places most of the time, but it feels great using it to "cheat" the game and do some things early and all that.

Re. All the talks of this game being hard
my goodness
I spent maybe 2 hours last night banging my head against something that I 100% should not have done this early in the game, destroying all my best weapons in the process, but I got a very cool item out of it so was worth it <3

Also
This game is huge
If you've made it off the starting island and done one of the intro quests, you'll know what I'm talking about :p I've spent more time there than elsewhere tbh

Yeah, it's actually quite unbelievable.
They also fixed one of my main issues with Botw (lacking variety) as there are now basically 3 levels of Hyrule to explore - each with different motives. It's basically a celebration of their entire Zelda series in one.

Just did the first dungeon (water) and I couldn't disagree more with some player's disappointment. Yeah well sure, the dungeons aren't "traditional" but they still seem to introduce unique dungeon mechanics, the theming of the dungeon I've now played is very fitting and amazing to look at and I'd wager that this dungeon feels better to replay than some of the older ones in the series. It's WAY better than the Divine Beasts.

Oh, I reached that part last night. I'm not a huge fan of it...but, you better believe that I want to collect enough Poes to unlock the Dark Link tunic. - I got a big head at first, because you can find about 40 or 50 Poes really easily...and now I'm kinda in the dark (literally) when it comes to finding more. Lol

Been playing this for a week and I think its so much better than BOTW in every way.
I don't think I can see myself going back to BOTW after this.

Same. Happy I never really owned Botw and only borrowed it :) Totk makes Botw look REALLY outdated.

I got the game on release day at GameStop, and finally got into my groove a few days ago and finished the first part.

I was really nervous that this was gonna be too similar to BoTW, as it's a sequel with similar functions and such, and that it was gonna be a cashgrab. But I was so pleasantly surprised to find that it's basically better in every way! Theres so much good in both games and they're both very unique from each other while maintaining a good amount of similarity.

It's definitely more difficult, though, if I'm being honest. Getting out of the great sky island itself took me a second! I'm also dealing with some really bad control drift, so thats not helping.

Okay...I'm turning around on the building aspect. - Once you get more of the capsules, things get more interesting.

I'm kinda obsessed with the rockets. Lol

We all are :-D Rockets and springs for fast mobility (pack a rocket on your shield and ooooooff you go).

Don't forget your Ascend ability! It's really helpful and saves A LOT of time climbing.

Just slaughtered Marbled Gohma using a Biggron’s Sword fused with one of the dragons’ spikes.
