gonna update this, Carmex does not give me the hydration I need anymore. lately I've been using Blistex five-star lip protection, but I also use Burt's Bees Deep Conditioning lip balm. both work quite well though I think I prefer Blistex.I don't really use lip balm unless I need to, but I like the regular carmex. I get chapped lips pretty easily when it's cold/dry out and carmex works really well
I'm also at a point in my life where I can't stand the sensation of chapped lips, and since it's cold and dry asf outside this time of year I use lip balm almost compulsively. at least my lips are nice and hydrated hehe.

omg I may need to try that? that sounds so nice I find that lip balm alone does work well but not great, so that sounds like a good idea! and yes, lip balm doesn't necessarily repair dry lips, just protects them, so it's good to have something like Aquaphor as a supplement.Recently I've had some of the worst lip dryness I've ever experienced (my upper lip dried out and it felt so WEIRD gahhh) and I was wondering why my chapstick was seemingly doing nothing when it's worked for me before, no matter how often I kept applying it, but ohh my god I started using a moisturizing lip repair ointment (Aquaphor) and then layering the balm over that, and I swear to god it fixed it overnight?? It's still winter and the air is really dry, but my lips are perfectly fine now. Apparently lip balm is mainly for keeping existing moisture in, so if you don't have that to begin with you're out of luck.
I am never going back to using a lip balm alone omg. I love this stuff.
