I'm sure there are many of us who used to frequent TBT for ACNL but then gradually, or maybe even abruptly, stopped playing and interacting in the forums. I made a couple AC/TBT besties on here and then eventually we had lost contact and just gone our separate ways. Coming back for New Horizons, I felt slightly hopeful to maybe see my friends active again and maybe we could catch up and play this new Animal Crossing together. But alas, I'm the only one who has come back it seems. I hope they're doing well with everything going on and had been doing well even before these crazy times. Anyone else have those online friends that they've lost contact with?

I've bonded with quite a lot of people throughout the years of playing ACNL and posting things on TBT. It was really interesting and fun! Sadly I haven't stayed in connection with them for a long time. What is your favorite memory OP?

Yes, I had a good girlfriend which I met in New leaf on the island.
The story is actually pretty funny! :D
We talked a lot on this random meet island and liked each other so much that we decided to swop friend codes. Problem was: we didn't write our codes down and back in the days it wasn't possible to shortly look in the Nintendo 3DS home menu to look for the code without closing the game and loosing each other's contact forever.
The only option was to write down the others city name and visit this town while "dreaming" - what still doesn't mean that you are able to meet each other again.
So we created a code to tell each other the friends code like: "Flower = Number 1, Item = Number 2, Cloth = Number 3 and so on! :D
I visited her city afterwards in my dream and saw her created line of stuff aka friends code - afterwards we were the best friends.. Haha. :D

First of all, that's beautiful. :'-)

Second of all, not on TBT for me, but elsewhere for sure. One friend in particular I was very close to for several years, and then one day out of blue, I never heard from them again. I went through all of the emotions, if it was something I did or said, etc. I'll never know why. It was really sad at the time. I, like yourself, hope they are doing well.

I think my favorite memory was the first time I traded with one of my friends. I complimented her island and then she gave me a thorough tour. We ended up just chatting in game for a few hours or something like that. She offered to give me some ridiculous amount of bells and I tried to deny it but she told me she had 5 billion bells saved up. It blew my mind and she laughed it off saying she had a lot of time to just hunt bugs all day every day. I actually messaged her when I came back in hopes of reconnecting if she happened to get ACNH and came back to TBT too, but it's all good. I still cherish the time and friendship we did have :)

how about you?

Wow that is very kind of her! I kinda joined ACNL and TBT a little later so there weren't too many people on still- sadly. I would say that my favorite memory was the first time I met this girl when I was looking for a popular villager and a person had their amiibo so they just gave me theirs when they decided to move. It was so kind of them! We became good friends and used to play pretty regularly but we had a big time difference so after I started school again we just kinda fell out of contact sadly. :c I hope to see them again soon!

I'm so sorry that happened to you :( I hope you've been able to find closure for yourself

Wow I am so sorry to hear that you had to go through that. I hope that you are in a better mindset about it now, don't let past ghosts haunt you is one of my mottos. It takes a lot of heart to share that, thank you!

there’s a few people that i bonded with on here back when i joined in 2015 - while some of them did come back, they don’t remember me as i’ve changed my username and after all, it’s been 5 years so connections have definitely been lost - but on the plus side, i’ve been able to make new connections since coming back :3

Hopefully they are doing well. They may come back eventually - many people still don't own, or simply can't get hold of, a Switch right now. I'm expecting more old users to return between now and Christmas. :)

Plenty of my friendships have simply faded over the years, but the ones that stick out most in my memory are those where I later learned the reason for their disappearance.

12-13 years ago my friend posted in a thread saying, "I don't want to go to work today" and then never came back online. I found out from her boyfriend some time later that another car had crashed into hers while she was driving to work that very same morning and she didn't survive.

About five years ago, two of my close online friends (one I had also had the pleasure to meet offline in 2013) passed away within six months of each other. I found out about the person I had met offline through her daughter. The other I discovered when I came across her obituary. These ones still bother me. I have a mug on my desk to this day (that I use as a pen pot) that I received as a gift from one of them in 2009.

The most recent instance was a friend on another forum who passed from cancer almost two years ago now. He was still a teenager. I heard from one of his friends offline what had happened.

Yeah, I have a good amount of friends from here that I no longer talk to that much, whether they’re still here and not interested in talking to me too much or they’re actually still inactive.

There’s one friend that I made here back in either 2013 or 2014, and we had hangouts at each other’s New Leaf towns a lot. They helped me out with my town as well. I hadn’t spoken to them in years, but sent them a private message I want to say either last year or the year before. Well it turns out they responded recently letting me know how they’re doing, which was I was happy about and it honestly felt kind of surreal to me. They said they don’t know if they plan on using the site much, but I’m glad they contacted me anyway. For reference we were teenagers when we first talked and now we’re both adults. ^^

I used to be part of an amazing guild on Neopets, and I have so many good memories chatting with all the other members! I even made my way 'up' enough into the guild that I ended up getting my own custom title. I checked back into the guild a few months ago and it seems like it's died off (as Neopets has, I guess).

I wish I could have exchanged some info with the other players to stay in touch, but then again, I'm not sure if I would have wanted to exchange some super personal info like my Facebook or anything like that.

I was involved in a cult that led me to flee the forums and go into hiding for several years

I’ve had a few Animal Crossing friends and we’ve suddenly drifted apart. I wouldn’t exactly consider myself food good friends with anyone on this forum, as I’ve mostly just been posting around and having discussions. I haven’t actually spoken to anyone one on one, although I definitely wouldn’t be opposed to that. I think some of the best friendships can be made online.
