So, my only mafia experience has come from TOS, and for anyone who has played TOS, Investigator is by far my favorite role (as Kat and Cad will tell you). That?s where this starts. Now, here?s how I play investigator, which I basically translated over to cop and here?s my reasoning for why I checked each person I did. Sure, I haven?t said much until today, but after Aron claimed D1 and then a bunch did D2, everyone kept yelling ?don?t claim, don?t claim!? and in TOS I would never out myself as invest in day 1 or 2, so I stayed quiet. I?m the kind of person who likes to absorb as much information as possible before making a decision. I stayed quiet so as to not be suspicious of being a PR and risk being role blocked or killed. Sure, something like doctor is better to RB, but call me paranoid because there?s still reasons to RB cop imo.
So, why did I check Panda N1? Well, here was my thought process. I wanted someone who contributed to the conversation heavily, but wasn?t highly sus?d by anyone, I figured an experienced player would be good at this to hide affiliation and they also wouldn?t be targeted at night to either be killed or framed. The biggest people you would think immediately to check I bet would be Xine, Aron, Cory, or an inactive. While I have also been ?inactive? until today, I agree with the sentiment it doesn?t help much to check inactives right away. So why did I not go with an Aron, Xine, or Cory check? Well here was my thought process:
Xine and Aron were basically the same cases to me tbh. I felt like since there were so many mafia possibly, that one would be killed and one would be framed, in either order. So I didn?t want to waste my check. If I check someone who turns up dead, then while it may help suspicions, it isn?t the extra info for me to work with that I would want, which I was hoping to gain from a check on N1. I still had my good feeling about Cory from Day 1 to where I was too town leaning of him to check him, I felt if he wanted to come out swinging that fast he wouldn?t do it as mafia. So finally my decision came down between Toad, Kat, and Panda. While Toad was a stronger town read to me, Kat was also a little sus for me. However, on a hunch in the end I went for Panda. Sure she wasn?t sus by many, but I had a hunch, and that was the point anyway. To check someone who wasn?t hugh sus?d, but talked a lot. Guess what? She then returned Mafia aligned. I also didn?t feel like someone would think to frame Panda, so I took it as fact and not frame. If she was framed, fine, but if there are 3 claimed millers, knowing or unknowing, what the actual ****.
As day 2 progressed, I again wasn?t comfortable with checking someone with a spotlight on them so I took out the idea of checking Xine and Aron again. As the day went on I checked out reads, posts, and changes in behavior. At the end of the day, my choices I wanted to pick from were Tina, Kat and Taesaek. I really checked them and saw who was rated what by Alexi, Inkling, and Daniel. Tina was pretty new but I thought it may be a good idea to check her, but decided against it. When I thought about Kat I wanted to check her to see if her doc claim was real, but again, decided against it. Taesaek was someone who had been brought up during the day and had gotten aggressive when accused so I thought he might be mafia, but near the end of the day, he wasn?t in the spotlight enough to frame him if he wasn?t. I ultimately checked Taesaek, and he ended up dead. As you can tell though, he came up town. On my check, he was town. So D2 confirmed I was not an insane cop.
If I didn?t check the right people I?m sorry for being stupid, but it?s my first game and I thought that my logic was pretty sound.
