so i've noticed tons of people have "married to _____ xx/xx/xx " in their signatures and it makes me wonder:

is it a joke?
are you just friends?
are you guys actually dating?
it it just like marrying your bff on facebook or something?

for those of you who are "married" whats the reason behind your "married to so and so" ?

It's more of a roleplay thing. Usually done by two people who are like close friends or whatever, marriage is more like a fun thing to do between two people when they're best friends. So sorta like what you mentioned as people marrying off their bff on Facebook.

It's all just a joke on the forums, don't treat it too seriously. Some people do, however, which they shouldn't.

It's when people take the whole marriage thing too far and treat it like an actual marriage.. like they're literally committed to it or anything. It is a weird joke, and should be treated as such but no idea what goes on in people's minds.

Honestly just.. stay out of it. That's the best thing you can do.

when I was like 11 I was "married" to a ton of people on some forum. I didn't even know any of them that well. I think it's kind of that way with the people who do it now but idk lmao

Mine was just a joke, I'm actually in a relationship with someone in real life, it was just a huge funny joke thing. It's funny to remember the hilarity of the thread. I don't take any of the marriages seriously, it's all just for fun.

I used to do it in my kiddie, internet days almost a decade ago. To me, it was always a joke. There might've been a time where I considered it real, but like I said, I was a kid. I guess it depends on the person.
I don't understand where the sudden forum marriage hype came from though. I'm as surprised as anyone.
