Sadly no. If you didn't play the May Day event last year you have no chance of getting the picture instead you'll get the Briefcase, so most likely you'll have to wait next year and there is no way to time travel back to May 2020 since the event has been removed after the update came out.

That was a fun little event. I didn't find the maze too complicated. I got it on my first try after a lot of running back and forth double checking that I was sure before committing to using my fruits. Honestly the worst part was my drifting joycon made it difficult to jump downward over the holes. I appreciate them making it a new maze every year.

I tried it once and failed. Reset and followed a video the second time. I simply don't have the time to waste...and it isn't like I was going to ever feel a great sense of accomplishment from it either way. Some games reward you with that feeling of "you did it"...but the May Day island in New Horizons is not one of those experiences. Lol.
Oh I completely forgot about the update - excited to fire it up and play through the maze though, I like the little change of pace that this mini game provides and it's quite a fun idea all in all. Also excited to get rovers picture! I didn't realise that was the reward this time around.

Player 3 had problems when she found Rover. She wasn't able to move down to get the bell tickets in handheld mode. The other 3 players had no problems. Switched to dock mode/pro controller and had the same problem. It wouldn't let her move down in 2 different spots and had to reset. 2nd time same spot and same problems. Lost count and it finally allowed her to move down.

I actually loved it tbh it was a bit challenging and had to restart 2 times but I feel if it was too easy people would've complained about that tbh

Ahh, well that shows how much I paid them any mind. I didn't even notice you wouldn't be able to get them without getting to Rover first.

I played the maze last year but I've reset since then. My new character has the briefcase that my previous character earned. Since she has touched the briefcase, will she get the photo? Or still get the briefcase? I guess I should just go try it!
When I played last year's maze, I found it difficult but I didn't get stuck. I just had to keep trying. For this, since I suck at mazes, will I actually have to keep restarting the game? That's a bummer. So time consuming.

If you've done May Day 2020 with the new character before the update, you'll get the photo, otherwise you'll receive the briefcase. Cataloging the briefcase before doing the maze will not change what you receive.
Best way to restart the maze is to use the Rescue Services, instead of restarting the game.
completed the maze about an hour ago and while it was definitely a bit frustrating, it only took me about 3 tries to reach rover, which is better than how i did with last year’s maze 
. i’m glad that nintendo changed the layout and prize this year but honestly, the only thing that i really care about is the fact that i got to see rover again LOL. seeing him always makes me happy and i’m very excited to add his photo to my collection. ☺
