Its a probability, but I wouldn't bet on it, then again, BOTW has a huge map...

That reminds me that Nintendo has been known to use Zelda engines in Animal Crossing games, at least it's theorized that they have. I say that because the map select in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask in beta mode is the same as it is in the Japan-only Nintendo 64 game that came out back in 2001 (notably being the first game in the series).
OoT's engine was a heavily modified one from Super Mario 64, so the engine itself dates back to 1996 if not earlier.

I never heard of that, interesting to know that theory

I'd love to have more than 10 villagers! I have so many villagers that I adore and sadly not all of them can fit into the one town on AC:NL, but 15 is a great number if given the right amount of space. I'd say if there's going to be more villagers they would have to be more space or bigger land which means more roaming which I love.

And on top of that, the debug code in the GCN game says "Zelda malic", which is why that theory came about around 2011. This means that technically AC maps could be moved to OoT/MM and vice versa, as well as to SM64, but no one has tried.

I feel like at some point you could be pushing for space with 20 villagers, or even 15. Maybe expand on the Campground and let a handful of villagers stay there for say, a week. The villagers can then roam your town, Main Street, shops ect like normal villagers and can visit in their vans, celebrate holidays.

Maybe if your friendship is high enough they could move in permanently and you could use amiibo cards to summon them to your campgrounds.

I heard that modding 64 roms are tedious to do, as they aren't meant to be changed after it’s done.

It is possible to do it by the multiple mods you see for the 64, but it takes a ton of time to do it...I can't recall who it was but I think I’m referring more to a Modder that did Zelda's Birthday, said its "extremely time consuming” to mod ocarina of times files (not that it already is, just more than usual), whatever the developers did while making it, it is a hard game to make changes, I believe the same applies to MM.

But other major titles that I’ve seen are a bit easier to do (SM64 is an example)

What I mean by this is, it’s probably why you don't see anyone really trying to map AC maps to OOT and MM... They probably did try it but failed to do it.

well, animal crossing has always been a franchise that does especially well on handheld devices but is unfortunately let down by the handheld devices technical limitations in their software, 10 villagers being a comfortable spot but not the extent to which games such as New Leaf could actually maintain; so I think it's time that the hybrid console takes the franchise to new levels.

villagers are one of the most important aspects of the games and we have always been limited in which ones we encounter...so....I think a more "open-world" design to the switch version will be very cool, instead of 10 we could have around 15-20 "home villagers" and possibly have 5-10 "visiting villagers" which roam your village, the new incarnation of Main Street, new incarnation of the campground and possibly even hubs like the island. it would be amazing to see all the villagers, we have around 350 villagers in New Leaf so it would be great to actually see them all first-hand and then the new additions which will probably bring that total closer to 400; which is huge.

No. I think 10 is a reasonable number to have. Anymore than that and things could start getting crowded.

I think more than 10 would be a bit too much and vastly reduce the space you could hypothetically have for PWP's and other players houses.

I would love more, but I think if they added too many extra it would be too much to maintain each villager. I'm assuming it's going to be a bigger map, so it's likely they'll add more plots.

I don't think we'll have to pay for more. I think if there is anything that can be bought with actual money it'll be like the leaf tickets in pocket camp where it really can just get you the extra stuff. I hope there isn't too many in game purchases, because I'm totally prepared to spend some cash for animal crossing!

Just go back to the roots and do the 15 villagers limit again. I think that's the best amount, not too
much, but also not too little.

even though i'd like to have more than 10 villagers, i feel like any more than that would be too excessive. what if your town is as big as your town in new leaf? 10+ villagers would take up a ton of room, and there's already not enough room as it is. 10 villagers feels cozy and not too crowded

Assuming the towns are bigger, I like the idea of going back to 15 villagers. I think it worked really well in the multi-tiered GameCube towns. The town didn't feel too crowded and it wasn't too many villagers to keep up with. More villagers is always a plus for me!

On the one hand, having 15 villagers made things, I don't know, a bit more chaotic than it really should have been? Some acres were densely populated if you were unlucky. Fetch quests became tedious if a large number of villagers were involved.

But on the other, I love diversity and having a bunch of different animals roaming the town made it seem much more livelier than the games that followed.

I can't choose. :(

New Leaf was the first Animal Crossing for me so I would like to stick with 10 villagers. Mainly because I can?t keep up with the 10 villagers I have let alone more. :)

I honestly like to keep my villagers number to a minimum. Kind of feels more homey when you are limited to 10. But wouldn't be bad if there was room for more in the next game. :)

Depends on how big the town is, and how much we can do with the villagers. I'm hoping they really flesh out the villagers, and then we won't need more than 10-12 villagers.

As for making us pay to have more villagers, I sincerely doubt they would do that. Stuff like that just wouldn't fit into a full mainline game.
