“Assorted” Collector
So here's what we know. The Bell Tree Fair 2014 is over. No more fair collectibles can be sold. The tickets are gone. And the banner is empty with the exception of the tree and site name. But I'm not done talking about it yet. I am going to review my experience with the fair.
The TBT Fair was my best experience I had on this site for the first four months. There were contests, events, prizes, and even some other fun stuff. Little Big Planet Central at least had the LBPC Spotlight that Media Molecule (the creators of Little Big Planet) promote, site contests, and their Halloween event. But Bell Tree Forums was way better than that. Even though I didn't win any contest or got a staff favorite in the events, I did at least get what I wanted, the two balloons at the shop.
The events were some daily challenges where you can enter to get tickets. Of course, if you get a Staff Favorite, you can get extra tickets, and in some of the events, you can receive the very first animated collectible - the green pinwheel. I'm not upset that I didn't get the green pinwheel, but I was shocked that some of my entries weren't staff favorites. There were a total of 9 events in the fair, and I will go over them in the order I rank them.
New Leaf Photo Challenge:
There were eight challenges in this event total, but I only entered five of them. The rules are that I have to follow the theme, and I cannot use a picture I uploaded in the past. Each entry is worth two tickets, with the exception of Staff Favorites, which get three instead of two, along with a green pinwheel at the end. Like I said before, I didn't get any staff favorite, but I wouldn't say that it isn't worth it. Reason was that even if I didn't get a Staff favorite, I did get enough tickets to get both balloons and the patch, but not from this challenge alone.
The first one was to sit on your favorite bench with some emotion. I picked my mayor to sit on a bench, daydreaming to fit her personality. The reason why I picked that bench is because it's south of the river. The second one was to be on a beach, using a swimsuit pattern or wet suit. My picture was Kaylee in a green suit, sitting on a stump on the beach. The third one was on non-villagers with characters. Like the majority of the players, I picked Isabelle as my favorite animal of this category, as Kaylee was the mayor. Both female characters were laughing. The fourth one was on regular villagers instead. Since Aurora was my favorite villager, I had her in a winter setting with Kaylee dressed as the winter girl. The last challenge I entered was the Interior Design Challenge, where you have to be in your favorite room. This is my favorite entry to the Events in the TBT Fair:
That time, I had Penny instead of Kaylee, in the Christmas room. The other three challenges I was too lazy to participate in them. That, and I already had enough tickets to get what I wanted.
Fair Food Stall:
I actually like that some challenges involve real life stuff rather than in-game stuff or online stuff. Cooking was one thing I can do. The rules was that you had to get a picture of some food related to the fair, write the recipe, and name the dish. Every staff favorite got nine tickets an a green pinwheel. The other qualified entries got five tickets.
I made a chocolate pie with whipped cream. Unfortunately, it didn't end up being a staff favorite. I was shocked because that was inventive, but then again, chocolate pies aren't that popular, and it wasn't original enough. But at least I got five tickets for entering.
TBT Scavenger Hunt:
The TBT Scavenger Hunt was my third favorite event at the Event Pavilion. What you have to do is to find some items they ask for, put your card near them, and get a picture. Every picture is worth one ticket each, with the staff favorites being extra.
I didn't start participating until Day 4, but Day 5 was the only day I had all three. After that, I got too lazy to participate in the rest. I should've participated in more, but at least I got enough tickets to get what I want.
The part I was shocked was that Trouble (the board game I entered) wasn't a Staff Favorite game. I though it was a popular game for my generation, and it isn't a favorite by the staff?! Regardless, Monopoly was the only game I saw for Day 5, as it was my alternative option before I entered Trouble.
Count Inside the Bottle:
Although this is one of my favorite events at the TBT Fair, I never got a single ticket at this event. The first two, I was way off, and wasn't even close to getting one ticket. The other two, were never mentioned because it got cancelled. Even if I haven't got a single ticket, it was still fun to guess what was inside.
Decorate your Christmas Tree:
This one is my middle favorite of the TBT Events. What we have to do is to take a picture of a Christmas tree either owned by the participant or helped decorated by the participant. I didn't own any individual trees, so I took a picture of my family Christmas tree. The prize was three tickets for entering, but five total if it was a staff favorite.
Caption the Picture:
This one was a silly event where the mods post a picture that you can put a caption. Just one appropriate entry, you get one ticket, unless if it was the best one, where you get six. I didn't enjoy this one as much as the others I participated in, but at least it was fun.
IRC Trivia Night:
I never participated in this event at all, but that's because I don't even use the Internet Relay Chat feature on TBT. But of the three events I didn't participate in, this one is the best. I should have participated in this event though.
Build a Birthday Hat:
Another event I didn't participate in was the birthday hat building challenge. I didn't participate because I am not overly fond of birthday hats, as I didn't have the materials at all. As a result, I don't know how many tickets they were worth.
House of Mirrors:
This one was my least favorite challenge of the TBT Fair. Not only I'm not a Nintendo fanatic, but that one looks really hard. So I didn't even participate in that challenge.
Anyway, I didn't get any Staff Favorites, nor did I get too many tickets, but I got what I wanted.
While the events were everyday challenges, the contests were the more traditional challenges, where someone enters something in the contest, gets votes, and earns prizes. Each 1st place winner gets 60 tickets and a golden trophy. The 2nd place winners get 45 tickets each along with the silver trophies. The 3rd place winners get 30 tickets and the bronze trophies. Everyone who places in the top three gets a rainbow feather. Once again, I did not win any contest. I'm okay with not getting the rainbow feather or trophies, but what I wanted more were the tickets. The reason was because I am very poor on TBT, and I needed to get extra prizes to sell for TBT Bells. What I wanted most were the big TBT Bells, not the prizes the contests offered. That never happened, but it was worth entering because every entry gets five tickets each.
The five contests were the Art Contest, the Signature Contest, the Interior Design Contest, the Town Design Contest, and the Poetry Design Contest. Of the five, I only entered the Interior Design Contest and Town Design Contests. Here's what I entered:
This is Penny's birthday room, for the Interior Design Contest.
This is the best of StarFall, for the Town Design Contest.
Of the other three, I was more likely to enter the Poetry Contest, but that never happened because I got too lazy to do one, no offense. The Art Contest is my least favorite to participate in, and the Signature Contest is what I would be the worst at. So I only entered two. Even if I didn't win, I still got my five tickets each, and Penny's birthday room was nominated for the Interior Design Contest poll.
Even if I only participated in two of the contests, I voted in four of them. The Art Contest and Signature Contest had some of my votes. Same with the two I participated in, even if I forgot who I voted for in the Town Design Contest. The Poetry Contest was the only one I didn't vote in.
Since it was the 10th Anniversary, the fair was extra special. This year, they had real-world prizes and raffles. I wasn't interested into the real stuff, so I went for the online stuff, the collectibles.
I had to get the patch to represent the timestamp for my participation in the TBT Fair. I didn't care too much for the feathers since I wasn't looking for feathers. Because I love balloons, I went for the balloon collectibles. Because of little participation in the events and contests, I only had 35 tickets total. It was enough for the green and blue balloons, along with the patch. I got myself a blue balloon and green balloon. The other 10 tickets, it was for an extra green balloon that I got just to give to another user on this site.
I did want the red pinwheel collectible, but since it was too late by the time I got 10 tickets, I didn't think about getting the pinwheel.
Anyway, I enjoyed the TBT Fair. Next year, I hope they have more collectibles and more events. One event I like to see next fair is what was similar to the giveaway thread last October, where there are 20 prizes, and each one of them is linked to a number. The first user to guess the number gets the prize. I also like to see a regular contest where you can make a fair model for real, similar to the Fair Food Stall and Build a Birthday Hat events, but for a rainbow feather rather than a green pinwheel.
