My Honest Thoughts on the Turkey Day Event

I feel like it takes too long to complete, especially for young kids. On a positive note, the items are really cute and I liked the set-up on the plaza... that was adorable.

I haven't played the event ! I thought it would be lame and boring but i'm seeing that it's not ! I'mma try it !

This was my favorite event so far! I loved the villagers in their little chef outfits. The only complaint I guess I have is that they didn’t make the pumpkin pie an item for us to have. I still want more food items in the game.

My boyfriend just finished the event and he HATED it. It took him over an hour to find a barred knifejaw. He didn't enjoy the grinding lol.

I said what I said about this event, but I will say there was one thing that did irritate me about it. It was obtaining the barred knifejaw fish. I don't know why that fish was so difficult to get.

I thought it was great! Didn’t take too long, but had enough to it to make it interesting. Trading fish with the villagers was an easy way to get things that could otherwise be hard to find (crab, scallops).

That's so strange. Once I started looking for the barred knifejaw, I think it only took me like ten minutes. Oddly enough, it's worth a decent amount, so sometimes I'll go looking for one to sell and it never takes me long to find one. Maybe it's just me, but it actually seems to be a fairly common, worthy fish on my island.

Not a single food item.
They even took out ingredients like sugar and vinegar that we use to use to decorate kitchens in NL during Harvest.

They won't give us anything we want back.

At this point I'm just about ready to quit.

I've already asked my wife to play my character as well as hers because I'm utterly disgusted at the dodgy, useless items we do get.

We will never get back what we had in NL.

Those are my thought's on this anyway. :(

Okay so I really loved it and dare I say even prefer it to the halloween event. I think the events so far haven't really had much of a challenge to them or variety. This is the first event where I felt like it is actually a bit of a challenge to complete it (if you didn't prep beforehand). I liked the variety of things you had to do so it wasn't so repetitive. I think it's cute to go around and pick some pumpkins, possibly mushrooms, dive, and fish. I also found it extremely adorable walking into your villagers houses and seeing them cook in little chef outfits. I loved seeing my villagers skip around and be obsessed with the food and even taking photos of it. It's so wholesome and adorable. I also LOVE how the whole setup looks at night. It's so beautiful with all the lights! I also really like the furniture set! Some of the items could still be used other times of the year which I really like.

Some things that were unsatisfying to me though were not getting to keep the dishes you helped cook, not seeing your villagers actually eat or fill up their plates, and not being able to eat anything either. I just think it's weird.. it's thanksgiving, we should be stuffing ourselves in game and seeing our villagers do the same lmao. Kind of odd to me they didn't add that.

finished playing a while ago and i honestly really enjoyed it! while there might not of been much to it, which is partially my fault since i gathered all of the ingredients ahead of time, i thought it was a super cute event and really loved how happy my villagers looked during the whole ordeal. i also really liked seeing franklin again, too, and the turkey day set is super pretty! overall, halloween is still my favourite event thus far, but i thoroughly enjoyed turkey day, too!

the only negative that i can think of is the continued lack of food items; i definitely thought that thanksgiving was going to be used as an opportunity to reintroduce food items but sadly that wasn’t the case. i’m still hoping that we’ll get food items sometime in the future aha ^^

I mean, I thought it was pretty good. Miles better than Bunny Day, that's for sure. I love love LOVEEE the DIYs we get, along with Cornucopia and wall and flooring. I'd say it was pretty good, and all the fish needed were pretty common, so it wasn't a tedious event that stretched for hours that needed the entire day.

Sorry you didn't enjoy it and I know you wanted it to keep going, but many players don't have time to sit in front of their switch for long periods of time to complete it, ESPECIALLY on a week day, so it made sense that they made it short and sweet.

With due respect the event itself was alright there was nothing wrong with it, but the thing I was expecting was that I hope there was more recopies to do. Even when I got all the ingredients I was just done afterwards. Don't misunderstand its not like I "hate" the event or anything but I was disappointed that there was no vegetables added that was speculated since a while ago. Also the thing they did with the diys I don't know its like they got lazy just gave it to all of us. I was hoping that if you traded fish with your villagers they would give you a DIY but all they did was just give me ingredients that I'm missing but its random each time. Its my opinion you are free to disgaree but thats just how I feel about it.

Well I don't think the DIY thing was lazy per-say. The four items he gives you for completing the original recipes are non-orderable and non-craftable, so even though you could buy the DIYs the next day if you missed the event, there is still an incentive to actually do the event to get those exclusive items.

I haven't read through the 4 pages of posts, so this might be an unpopular opinion but this was my favorite holiday in NH so far.
Easter was overkill with the eggs. Halloween...while I did like decorating/hyping the island up for the big day, I don't like that the surprise of the Pumpkin Carriage was ruined by everyone selling them a day after the update.

The only thing I don't like is the fact I couldn't do anything on my friends' islands. Thanksgiving is about sharing and being with friends and loved ones, yet it turned out to be more of an ' isolate yourself on your island, because if you find the crab your friend needs on their island after you both searched for over a flipping hour, they're gonna be really frustrated.' Lmao.

Overall, not bad, but just frustrating ( as I've never found a scallop or any of the crabs before since I just reset not too long ago, so now I didn't get to donate any of it or give anything to Pascal ).

Seeing how all the items are available for purchase as well as the entire DIY set can be purchased tomorrow and for the rest of November. I could casually play the event and not worry too much about getting everything unlike the previous holiday events.

Usually for Thanksgiving a la Animal Crossing (since New Leaf at least) I separate the dishes to do throughout the day. That way I'm not just grinding for hour or so to complete it all.

So my villagers had a Clam Chowder and Pumpkin Pie (with special ingredients) for brunch, then the Gratin for a mid-afternoon lunch and Fish Meuniere for dinner with Barred Knifejaw. The only one to get away from me was finding a Dungeness Crab.

I really enjoyed the villager interaction and enjoyment of the even today, the plaza looked really lovely with how it all looked.

I think this is the best event they've had in new horizons so far! I loved collecting the spooky decorations and costumes though the whole month of October, but I thought the halloween event itself fell a little flat. I easily got all the items bc I had been hording candy all month, so it went by fairly quickly. But, to my surprise, turkey day was actually a lot of fun! Gathering the ingredients for franklin and finding the secret ingredients out from the villagers in exchange for fish was fun, and took up quite a bit of time. I played for a few hours before I collected everything, and I think that's a successful event. I never felt bored, I was a little frustrated trying to find that crab for one of the recipes though lol. Other than that, it was pretty fun!

I thought it was really cute and I liked that I had a reason to fish and dive, and the dishes looked good! I struggled a bit with getting the Dungeness crab and the barred knifejaw, but I enjoyed that it actually gave me a bit of a challenge. I hadn't been diving in forever. I did wish that the villagers could actually sit down and eat the meal that we had worked so hard on instead of walking around with empty plates all day LOL

It seemed like they wanted us to not stress much over the event, and enjoy the holidays with our families.
Proof? The usually tough to find or at least rare items needed as special ingredients... I'm talking about the scallop, dungeoness crab, and barred knifejaw... -were incredibly easy to get. In fact all of these I managed to catch on my first or second tries. The game clearly stacked the RNG in our favor for today. Or maybe that was just me? Curious how RNG hunting went for others on Turkey Day!
I beg to differ. I hunted for the Dungeness crab and the barred knifejaw forever. For like two hours at least. I finally hand the switch to my husband and he managed to get both.

Yeah that was another thing that disappointed me. My friend who was new to the game wanted to try the event himself but he said he couldn't do anything which really shocked me. Also I don't know if anyone spoke about this but when you're new to the game you miss out on the event because Resident Services is not built. So that is pretty weird. My friend was pretty disappointed and I was too. I mean they really didn't think about playing the event with your friends. Thats something the Halloween event did last month yet for whatever reason wasn't done here.

I no joke spent 2 hours looking for a certain secret ingredient with no luck at all, which was okay because it was a secret ingredient but still annoying that I couldn’t get the one last Turkey Day item. It also took me 15 minutes to find a sea bass - I kept getting Olive Flounders, which I’m pretty sure are rare-ish, so I felt like Nintendo had jacked the RNG..

RNG is a double edge sword in this game. I had a hard time trying to find the Dungeness Crab.
