I’m really tired of so many pattern spots being taken by the road. I don’t do the angles, but still… Anybody seen/do citycore with in-game paths?

I'm doing something adjacent to citycore. It's sort of a rural Japanese town with the standard light dirt paths. I've seen a few islands similar to that. That's definitely an option. I've also seen cities with the terracotta standard path, or the stone ones, though those might not be the urban-esque city look you're going for.

Honestly I just wish they had given a basic concrete path with the default designs.

I should look for some with the dirt path. I have thought of going with just some sort of cobblestone path. Something that wouldn't need all the edges and corners. Hmmm... I wonder how it would look if I didn't worry about that for the street patterns I'm using now. Now that Christmas is over, I can play around with that (as I wait for the snow to melt!) and see what I think.

Thanks for your reply! :) (and yes to a basic concrete path!)

A tip is that placed patterns follow the placed path if you leave just a single transparent pixel in it. So maybe make a generic "road" texture with a transparent pixel and place it on top of another pathway design, it will show some colour through though so experiment which path to choose. I used this technique to make designs on my island that are very intricate but only needs one pattern to work. I can add a pic later ☆

My island has a city/rural theme and I use mostly in-game paths. I’ve considered using patterns but I love the clack clack too much so I would never cover the roads! For me, my essential patterns are storm drains, gutters, and cross walks. I don’t use specific patterns for pavements or corners. Most of my pattern spaces are for signage and I still have over 30 slots to use!

cobble near dirt path example… ok the little gap between the two types of roads have always bothered me but I’m used to it now. You can also chuck a leaf pile or scattered papers over them to hide it.

That looks great! And good point about the sound. TFS!

please add a pic! I’d love to see what you’ve done!

I use a transparent brick set for sidewalks with the cobblestone road. It takes up about 15 spaces, and I still have click-clacking roads.

I made my own paths, which consist of a dirt version of The Path, and then a road with a sidewalk and filler bricks.

The dirt path would at the very least consist of the 9 usual spaces, up to a total of 22 because I like variation in the center piece, but could be minimized down to 4, probably, if you only use the corner pieces to show ' wear and tear ' around sidewalk pieces, if used at all. So, while a lot, it can be minimized or entirely ignored. So I wouldn't count this exactly.

For the actual citycore, tho -- I use a total of four patterns for the sidewalk - a corner piece that works in all corners, a general horizontal piece and a general vertical piece, and a tactile pavement block.
The asphalt has a repeating center piece, a horizontal and vertical for yellow lines and vertical and horizontal for zebra crossing. I made some extras ( cigarettes for around Marlo's, a plastic bag for near Sasha's house and the shops ), but they're all optional, so in the end, it's a total of 9 patterns!
Then I have a repeating brick that's filler for walking areas, because I tried lining the patterns over the cobblestone in - game path, but it wasn't exactly what I wanted. However, in game paths can totally be used, bringing the total of patterns back down to 9 instead of 10.

Don't mind my big WIP, but here's some pics.

Dirt path extending off the sidewalk to where I plan to put a picnic area.
Still need to extend my path up now that my incline is finally built lol, but how I use the tactile pavement, as well as a patch of dirt wearing underneath the bush. :>
Quickly put together example of some of my other tiles, pt 1.
And pt 2, electric boogaloo. Ignore the stone and arched stone, I was measuring out each acre with them lol. ( As u can see, my path doesn't use transparency so that it can all lay flush against the in game paths except the dirt paths ofc.
More dirt wearing, going into my campsite which isn't done yet so only a sneak preview. T VT
And another view of the area leading into my campsite, a little sitting area outside of the museum; need to expand on it, add more furniture, etc. but it's really cute so far.
Then some of my custom villager tiles in a parking lot I ended up erasing, but a better example of the repeating asphalt and stuff.

I just finished flattening my island a few days ago and am building up now as you can see but !! It's going well, haha.

[ If you're interested in any of these, I don't mind uploading my patterns. : D Villagers were done by X10Rinne; I just copied them onto my repeating asphalt tile! ]

Wow! Thanks for sharing this! I’m in the process of getting rid of extras and simplifying, so this is very helpful! I had a road that took up 14 spaces plus an accent path that took up 9. It was ridiculous. 😂 TFS how you do more with less. 😊
