TBT is getting worse. I checked the total posts just a second ago. Counting this one, 12 posts. That's right, TBT has gained 12 posts in the past 24 hours. This is really bad.

Now, as many of you know (for a lot of you go there), I run TNZ. In the past, our activity was extremely unstable, like what TBT's is now. We had many "dedicated" members, but they just viewed the board and never posted. And there were many things about the forum that needed work. I followed a few steps that brought TNZ back to really good activity where it is now (we're currently gaining hundreds of posts a day). So, I'm going to post my suggestions based on my experience. Kids, don't flame me and accuse me of trying to make TBT "like my own forum". The only reason I talked about TNZ just now was to let you know that I've been through this before, so I know what I'm talking about.

1. New Staff

Let's take a look at TBT's staff. Storm is the only admin, with Odd, Darth, and Sporge as mods. Storm is extremely busy with life, Odd is only a mod yet he's doing almost everything, Darth doesn't come here, and Sporge I see post occasionally, nothing more. Bulerias retired, yet he's more active than the rest of the staff. Not a good staff condition, huh? A strong set of staff is key to keeping a forum active. So what should be done? First, Storm being the lone admin is not a good idea. He's not on that much, so if a situation comes up where Admin CP access is needed, chances are TBT is pretty much screwed. One more admin at least is needed here. Odd should be that IMO, but it is ultimately Storm's decision, of course. Second, we need to change the mods. Let's say Odd becomes admin, and that leaves Darth and Sporge. Why is Darth a mod when he almost never comes here? And maybe Sporge should be demoted too, because, from what I see at least (I have no clue what goes on behind the scenes), he doesn't do much as a mod. These people should be replaced with really active TBT'ers, who show that they're really dedicated to the forum. I'm not going to give suggestions, although I hope Storm makes smart choices if he decides on them (people who would be bad choices, you know who you are).

2. Layout Edit

One of the greatest things to give a forum a "fresh start" is to completely revamp the layout every now and then, change the names of things, make new boards, get rid of old boards, etc. I see Odd is already trying to do that, by asking for suggestions of new names for boards, and that's really good. Maybe you should take it a little farther though. Specific suggestions, I don't have, but I bet it would help.

3. New Topics

This one isn't just directed at the staff. It's directed at every loyal member of TBT. You guys need to start a lot of topics, that's the key to getting a lot of posts a day. Sure, responding in topics helps too, but making topics is a lot better. I try to do this, but junior year is crashing on my head and I don't have much time for this place. So please, everyone, try to start new topics, and reply to topics other people make.

4. Website Update

I was checking through the website the other day. Half the links don't work, and a lot of the others are "under construction" pages and stuff. I think it could use an update. And like with the board, maybe a revamp/new layout.

5. Newsletter

Why not create a monthly newsletter that is sent to members via bulk e-mail? Writing newsletters is one of the best ways to get old members to come back. Start a team of people who will write articles for the newsletter. I volunteer to join.

6. Advertising

Increasing the traffic that comes through TBT will largely contribute to making TBT active again. You can do this by publicly posting a sig add and telling the active members to put it on their sigs at other forums (although I already think it's been done here). Also try to get members to post advertisements on other forums. It would greatly help if you gave members incentive to advertise!

7. Loosen The Rules

This one is a little controversial, and I won't be surprised if I get "NO NO NO"'s as a response, but...maybe the rules should be loosened up? They're a little unreasonable for forum standards anyway IMO. Take off some (or all) of the swear filters (with the understanding that just because you can doesn't mean you swear every other word), and allow a "broader" discussion if you know what I mean. TBT has kind of, for lack of a less harsh word, kiddy rules. If you make the forum more mature, more people will take it seriously. It definitely wouldn't unreasonable if you at least get rid of the really stupid rules (ex. "if cross country was easy, it'd be called your mom" OMG SEXUAL!!!! GET IT OFF!!!11!)

...and that's all I can think of. But if I have more I will post it. I hope this helps tons.

Jeez. That's a lot of stuff. I'm glad I don't have to worry about this anymore, haha... :p

You hit on a few key points....

It's not gonna be easy, if any of the stuff you suggested happens anytime soon. :p

1.) Storm and I have been discussing possible staff members for the future, but we're not ready to announce anything yet. And Darth and Sporge are both retired however they still have their rank in case of emergencies.

2.) We want to go back to getting our skins like they used to be. If ANYONE (even if it's someone you know) understands how to make a Zetaboard skin than they should contact me. As for board names, we really can't do too too much until City Folk comes out, or at least until we get more details.

3.) Been addressed plenty of times so there's not much that hasn't already been said.

4.) The site is really a failed project in my eyes. Storm and I have so many ideas for what we can do to improve it and we have some many codes that need to be filled out. Back in 2006 when the site first launched we set up a bunch of teams with active members who seemed as though they would be dedicated to working. We got a good amount of stuff done but eventually everyone gave up leaving Storm and myself with basically nothing. Storm and I have been working on and off for the other years and we've gotten little done.

I really don't know what to say about the site other than that and whether we're going to keep the site up or not.

5.) It's been done in the past, and I belive we should pursue to do it again.

6.) That's a given.

7.) The Rules have been adjusted recently to where the majority of the staff (Storm, Bul, myself, Gohan, Sporge) We've removed tons of word filters (whether you know it or not). As for political discussion, I really don't know, I'd have to talk to Storm.

1) Why would there be an emergency...? But okay, I'm going to congradulate ahead whoever is chosen. But I still think there should be another admin.

2) I could find some people who would be willing to do it. And while yeah, wait until more info of City Folk comes out before changing names, it wouldn't hurt to adjust the boards themselves.

3) k

4) I see...but you could get the dedicated member base to help restart it. This would be a perfect time, with City Folk coming out. I mean, think about it: people coming to The Bell Tree Website first for info on the game...

5) I could help you guys set it up.

6) True, but I'm saying it should be emphasized more. Although, the part about giving incentive.

7) That's good. But I mean not just political discussion (I don't even get why you can't talk about it though, we're all mature enough to handle it), we can talk about like...sex and stuff here. Not graphic stuff or anything (ew), I mean just not flipping out when someone has something like what my cross country avatar was.

@ Jman: I know it won't, and that's why all the TBT'er must band together and do their part to help.

@ Bul: You should still help though, like I said to Jman.

Help? Yeah... not happening. :) My plate is as full as can be at this point. I shouldn't even be on right now, I've got classes tomorrow morning...

Mondays: Classes (11am-5pm)
Tuesdays: Guitar lesson (8pm - 10pm)
Wednesday: Classes (1pm - 6pm), Guitar lesson (7pm - 10pm)
Thursdays: High school homework
Fridays: Classes (3:30pm - 5pm), Gig (6pm - 8pm)
Saturdays: High school homework
Sundays: High school homework... and SLEEP.

Yupppp.

Yeah, TBT being active will be, like, a good thing...

I'll do whatever I can to help out in that.

In any case, I've got a lot of experience under my belt when it comes to ZB skins, and I've explicitly told OCM that if he needs any help with anything, to say the word. I can make a suitable skin in no time at all, no problem.[/quote]I just need to talk to Storm first before I can get you started on anything. : o

I'll help. I'm currently having trouble with my laptop (Which is why I've been inactive recently) But I can get on my family's desktop every now and then.

Just tell me what to do.

You people still trying to save TBT from being a graveyard?

Too late.

About 5 months late.

Not really.

It's too too late anyway. We still have SOME members that stuck around.

If you care about TBT so much why don't you stay?

If there's one thing I learned from all the times I've had to revive TNZ, it's that it's never too late to revive a forum.

I call the backup position. :p

I agree with most of the things that you have said. There are some things I just would like to say to contradict what was typed. I've seen TNZ and it's indeed respectable just like the founder. Don't take this personally, really.

Remember that debate forum suggestion thread you made? Those people where right, we don't need one because the forum is one.

-2. Worse? 12 posts in 24 hours? I think you're making it worse by anknowledging it. I beleive I noticed one day a couple years back where 3 posts were made in 24 hours. I'd say it slowly improved comparing those 2 facts.

-1. I understand you experienced this but there are 2 things that differ the situations. One, you are not Storm who is in college and Secondly this is tbt. You may have already known this. After all, you made threads regarding this. In my opinion the more you state this whole I run TNZ thing and make threads that suggest something. You're technically comparing this forum to the alive TNZ. Thus giving the idea to me (I know you do not intend to) that TNZ is better than this place and that you want it to be "like your own forum". It resonates that idea to me no matter how you say that you don't mean to (which I'm aware of). Notice how you said you experienced this on that post again? I'm not accusing you, I'm just letting you know how I sometimes feel everytime you post a suggestion thread.

1. I'd feel a bit depressed if those 2 where to lose their positions if they wanted to keep them. Darth does the little things that go unnoticed sometimes and I think that part of your post may have caused:
omgproof2.jpg

5. Suggesting a new area of power and joining to be a part of it? Either I always feel this way to sugestions or that idea is resonating in my head. Which I know isn't exactly what your message is.

7. You are right, this is controversial. And at the same time it's one of those things that have a "grey area". On it. In the whole Termina cafe the rules where loose..until one certain page? This is a confusing area....

I'm glad you're optimistic IslandGuy! :) I haven't done one thing for probably 8-9 months, though, so I'm basically retired. ;) You're also right about 12 posts in 24 hours being bad... but instead of acknowledging and posting about it, why not go post about good stuff and spark discussion? The only way we'll get more posts is if people post in Gamers Lounge and AC boards.. think about it... if you post one new topic a day, and for the most part reply to new posts in those boards daily, one or two times each day... that's maybe 10 posts a day... and then 2 or 3 more people do... and good discussion starts... and then 9 or 10 people do, and then there's tons of threads to pick which you wanna reply to, and then new members see how active the place is and they join and post... and it all starts with one or two people posting a new thread and replying to other's threads.

If you are going to take that as a good thing you are reaching for nothing which is what apparently seems to be done by everyone right now. Unfortunately people feel that if they have to do anything of something they will have to drop everything.

That's great that you feel. Sometimes I feel too. However, posting credentials to further back up your posts is important. It's not like she doesn't know this forum (or I for that matter) as we have been here since the start and have remained (sometimes off and on) till now.

Darth said he isn't doing much of the staff. And again, if you are using Darth being on at the same time as you as an example you're reaching and holding on to nothing.
