Of the two retro consoles, the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, which one do you think is better, based on controller design, features, library, and hardware?

If I had to choose, I would prefer the NES over the SNES. The NES is the console of old classic arcade games, which I do enjoy playing. The SNES though, I could care less for. The only reason why I would think the SNES is better is because of Super Mario World and A Link to the Past (the best 2D Mario and 2D Zelda games, respectively). Other than that, NES wins.

i prefer the general improvements of the snes. plus it has earthbound so instant win for me

The NES was my first video game console and I love them both, but honestly I enjoy the SNES more out of the two. There's simply more great games for it, at least for my tastes. Some of my all-time favorite games are on it too, like Super Mario World and Final Fantasy VI.

SNES, for sure! C' mon it's hard to argue w/ the likes of Super Mario World, Super Castlevania IV and Super Metroid: three of the very BEST games right there!

SNES. Better games, even though some controlling doesn't make sense AT ALL.

Of the 2 systems, I think the SNES is where it is at due to the quality of the games being so much better at many fronts (obviously the system had its garbage games, but that is a given). The games aged well for the most part and some games have a strong followings that most games would envy to have like Earth Bound and Super Metroid. Another thing that the SNES has over the NES is the controller which to me is one of the most comfortable controllers I have ever held.

I personally never liked the SNES controller due to it's actual weird controlling, like since when you you jump with B and do this with X etc. But yeah way better games and not that annoying arcade difficulty and limits like NES had.

Definitely SNES. Sure the NES ''saved'' video gaming and it had a huge role in shaping gaming as we know it today. But that doesn't change my opinion on the NES games. For the most part, they're extremely boring to me and if I do enjoy playing them it's always only for 30 minutes. After that I just get bored! SNES games are often way more advanced and deep with more content. Which is also why I did bother to get a SNES classic but decided to not get the NES classic. Got plenty of opportunities to buy one but I just don't care about the NES lol.

Granted this may be because I'm from the ''modern'' generation. I grew up with GameCube games which had way more to offer than your avarage NES or SNES game obviously. I can understand that if the NES was the only thing you could play games on back in the day that it would probably have been amazing. But that said, I do think I have a more objective view or perspective because of the fact that I didn't have much experience with those systems while growing up.

The NES was my first console ever so it will always have a special place in my heart. But is it better than the SNES? I don't think so.

Although I've got fond memories of the NES, I don't find myself wanting to play it that often. The truth is that many of the games I used to play as a kid really isn't as good as I remember them. Sure, there are some classics like Mega Man II, Bubble Bobble and Ice Climber (yeah, I'm that one person who likes it) that still holds up, but the SNES pretty much perfected 2D gaming. Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Castlevania, Contra - many of the most successful NES games got superior sequels on the SNES and many of them remain some of my favorite games of all time.

There has never been a better console than the SNES in my mind.

God, Ice Climber. It's still a fun game, but it does NOT hold up that well. The biggest problem is the jumping mechanic is terrible. It came out before Super Mario Bros. Pretty much everything that came out before Super Mario Bros (and some after) have really terrible jump, and Ice Climber is one of those. It's hard to get your character to go where you want them to go because it's so wonky.

People sometimes forget this, but good jump mechanics is actually one of the reasons Super Mario Bros was really revolutionary for its time, not just the great level design or music.

The SNES.

It was just NES games...But way better. I can't think of a SNES sequel where I would prefer to play the predecessor NES game. Such a massive leap in quality.

NES games to me feel like they're close to the basicness of an Atari game, like an old relic I'll appreciate but find pretty hard to actually sit and enjoy for longer than 10 minutes.
