Assuming the new article posted is correct and you have to have 1 male Jock and 1 female Uchi who would ur ideal first villagers be?

mine would be Male Jock -- 1) Kody 2) Poncho 3) Lyman

Female Uchi-- 1) Canberra 2) Tammy 3)Ursala 4)Paula 5)Charlise

They are in order from most to least...i highly doubt I'll reset either way... but ideally I would just have a bear Island... so if I got these I would not be replacing them I would try and get them to stay.. What about you guys?

I think it's random.

I wouldn't want to start with a jock.

I like Cherry.

it’s odd that we’ll be starting with two specific personalities but i’d like bam and fuchsia, if that’s the case c:

i dont know if its true but i checked some of there examples and they checked out...but it is super weird

That feels so oddly specific to have those personalities. I feel like this is rumor/coincidence. But we just don't know yet.

If it ends up being true, here's my priority. I am intentionally listing animals I've never had in a town before.

Uchi - Phoebe, Cherry, Mira
Jock - Ribbot, Roald, Tank

The evidence currently presented to us really does support this as fact, however it could be untrue. We'll just have to see. However, I'm fine with having a Jock and Uchi villager.

I don't mind most Jock villagers, as long as they aren't a gorilla, mouse or pig villager. As for Uchi, I don't mind some of them but I definitely like Pashmina, Sylvia and Phoebe the most.

As long as I can kick them off for the Amiibo characters I actually want, it doesn't really matter. If I can't, then I have no clue who I'd want.

Wait... Why do people think we're going to be limited to a jock and uchi? Cranky's can be quite fatherly, lazy's can be so kind, smug's can offer support and peppy's can be really helpful!

I decided to do a bit of math on the likelihood that all of these players are getting Jock and Uchi by coincidence. Let's define some numbers. We know some are a bit off due to the game having allegedly only 383 characters, but let's work with the entire pool of New Leaf's 397.

Number of Jock: 59
Number of Uchi: 23

Now, the total number of possible combinations of starter villagers, amongst all personalities, is the binomial coefficient 397 choose 2, or 78,606 total possible combinations. Now we need to determine how many possible combinations of Jock and Uchi there are.

Well, let's assuming ordering doesn't matter. To figure out the formula, let's assume there are Jocks A, B, C and Uchi D, E, F. That means the following combinations are possible. Note that ordering is unimportant:
AD
AE
AF
BD
BE
BF
CD
CE
CF

So it looks 3 * 3 = 9 is the formula, so going back to Jock and Uchi numbers, the total possible combinations of Jock and Uchi is 59 * 23 = 1,357.

Therefore, the possibility of you winding up with a Jock and an Uchi are 1357 / 78606 = 0.01726331323, or 1.72%.

Assuming I didn't make any mistakes, the odds of it being a coincidence are abysmal. The odds become hideously low if you consider the possibility of achieving this twice or more in a row.

Well, developer builds need to be accounted for since they can force certain factors to be 100%. But yes, you're math appears to be correct.

IF those are the two starting personalities for every player, here's a possible explanation:

purely personality-wise, both types seem likely to go for something like the Deserted Island package. They're bold and athletic, and I can see them wanting to rough it up out in nature. More so than say, a snooty or lazy villager, for example. Just a thought.

Who'd I pick if it's true? Kid Cat and Shari—a hero and my mortal (digital) enemy. Seems like fun times, actually xD

This is what I was thinking too.... like a lazy character realistically would not want to live on a deserted island.... and snooty wouldn't be caught dead on a deserted island. They are more likely to move to our island when it's more developed and has more convenience for them. At the same time, I wish we could have normals! I feel like normals would still make sense. I'm not a fan of uchis or jocks :/

I dislike all jocks and most uchis. I?d be happy with Pashima and Cherry, and I can tolerate some of the jocks ? Bam, Genji, Kid Cat, or Poncho. If I get others, I might reset. Hopefully all the evidence is circumstantial, though, because I don?t want a single Uchi or Jock as my finals.

This makes sense, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's what they're going for.
Also, if I remember correctly, in New Leaf it was impossible for your 5 starting villagers to be uchi or smug, so there's precedence for Nintendo to do this sort of thing.

As for my picks...
Jock: Bam, Drift, GENJI, Pierce, Rudy, Sparro, Tank (I'm actually fine with most of the jocks, most of them are pretty bland, but the Really Awful characters are all other personality types)
Uchi: Canberra, Pashmina, Shari, or Tammy (I really hope they add more good uchi villagers)

At the same time, I wish we could have normals! I feel like normals would still make sense. I'm not a fan of uchis or jocks :/

I wish we had all the other options as well. I actually love the jocks, but didn't necessarily want to start with one. With uchis I like the personality well enough, but their designs are overall my least favorite?there's just not a single one that I really want in town, based on looks alone.

I won't be upset if it ends up being true, but it does seem limited. Especially on a community level, everyone having the same two types is a bit boring, isn't it? Just imagine if people keep resetting for the same few villagers xD

This makes sense, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's what they're going for.

It's true that they limited our options in NL too, but there's just such a difference between ruling out 2/8 and only allowing 2/8. Either way, I also hope that this might mean that they'll be adding several new uchis. That'd almost make it more worth it to me.

I agree! Seems a bit strange to be SO limited. I do like some of the jocks but I really don't like any Uchis design wise as well. If I had to pick I would hope for Drift as my jock.... not sure who I would want as the uchi.... maybe shari because shes the most normal looking uchi.

Thanks this is awesome!!

Jocks are always male and Uchi are always female in New Leaf. New Leaf is the basis for my math.

Edit: For anyone wondering - post above me was edited but was asking if it accounted for male/female split and it does since the two values are dependent.
