New Horizon's Rating suggests In-Game Purchases

I asked EB Games about it as I am thinking about cancelling my preorder depending on what the in app purchases are, and they gave me nintendo's number, so I'm going to call them when they open and try and get an answer out of them.

At least get an idea about a direct.

lol do you really think Nintendo customer support is going to give you a straight answer โ€“ let alone know one โ€“ before the marketing department has approved a PR info release? Absurd. If they say anything, it'll be that it could be anything and they don't know at this time.

I am aware.
But it doesn't hurt to ask.

Most, if not all, Customer Support for Nintendo are likely under NDA contracts, or literally just do not know.

Regardless if there's micro-transaction or not, or just DLC or literally just Nintendo Switch Online via the game... it really doesn't matter. It likely will not impede your ability to play and enjoy the game.

This is just being blown out of proportion, and most of you guys are assuming the absolute worst. Relax a bit.

Edit: even if the 'absolute worst' comes to light, its still completely optional and will likely not impede your gameplay still. If people can play games like MMORPGs that have in-game purchases completely free and enjoy it, so can we.

I will wait and see what happens when the game comes out, but I am concerned that because so many people are willing and even happy to pay for DLC and micro transactions that it can become an out of hand thing.
I don't want to get upset or jump the gun because the game isn't even out yet, and we don't know for sure what this all means...but IF this goes the route of some other games, where everything I want can only be had with spending more money, I am done.
I can't tell you how many games I have invested in to one day wake up and ask myself wtf are you doing, and then adding up what I spent and wanting to be sick. I won't do it again.
I love this franchise but if it goes that route I will walk away for good. I cannot enjoy games that go this route. At some point everything is going to require constant money to play, because they are "losing" money...if we don't spend spend spend they may go bankrupt

It was leaked somewhere about a possible Feb 20th direct.

We shall see.

It's certainly worrying. I really, really hope that microtransactions and DLC won't be prevalent. I wouldn't mind DLCs every now and then so long as they provide a decent chunk of new content, but microtransactions to speed things up or get certain items are a big no-no. My preorder will be cancelled the second I learn of it.

Ditto.

The red flag is their silence.
That's why I'm waiting for a direct to hopefully put many minds at rest.

They're silent because they do not owe you any explanation and have not shown much about the games because they don't need to. "In-game purchases" could mean anything. Don't assume micro-transaction! Many recent Switch titles have "In-game purchases" listed due to compliance of certain things, such as DLC or simply just Nintendo Switch Online.

Again, a lot of you are blowing this out of proportion. Stop assuming the worse, because you're just going to ruin the games for yourselves if it turns out you were worrying about nothing.

I don't think it's being blown out of proportion at all. It's the principal and it is a genuine concern. I think I might hold off on buying this day one now and wait to see how it plays out. Any indication of microtransactions and I'm done with Animal Crossing I think. Imagine being able to buy a furniture set that they could have just as easily included in a ?50 game. Pffftttt

I love Nintendo but they know how to infuriate their fanbase, that is for sure. One island....no cloud saves......no transferring saves......and now this! When does it end?

I'm saying its being blown out of proportion because many of you are assuming and worrying it is micro-transactions, and only that.

I'm not saying you can't be concerned, but don't assume.

I'm not sure why you're expecting a direct to put your mind at rest. What makes you think that Nintendo are going to talk about DLC or microtransactions? It will just be about game features and that type of stuff.

I agree it's purely speculation at this point but there is no denying that all recent reports of Animal Crossing have been about something will annoy the hell out of people. This seems to be the Nintendo way now.

I think they owe anyone who is investing in this game an explaination.

Anyway, I just spoke to nintendo.
Nice guy, didn't know much, as we thought.

Couldn't confirm if the feb 20th direct was more than a rumor.

We will be able to do a system transfer.

Microtransactions could be used to speed things up in the game, or buy premium items. Just like Pocket Camp, but he's not sure.

He doesn't know if autosave can be turned off. He doesn't think so.

That's all I got.

That's me in regards to almost everything about NH atm.

If you didn't spend the $60 to preorder, or any money on NH whatsoever yet, you are not investing and therefore are not owed an explanation.

No, not really. Its mostly because the gaming community has to be upset about something these days. Just look at the Byleth DLC from Smash Ultimate.

The thread was a "hey, this is a thing, but its probably nothing at all" and is now a "OMG!! I'M CANCELLING MY PRE-ORDER! MICRO-TRANSACTIONS ARE A THING, 100%!" thread. Its being blown out of proportion, and quite frankly, just really silly.

I'm literally staring at my cartridge case to Pokemon Shield, and it says "In-game Purchases" on the ESRB Icon. What does Pokemon Shield have? Nintendo Switch Online notifications and a DLC Pass. No micro-transactions. The same is very likely to be the same thing with New Horizons.

And even IF New Horizons has some sort of micro-transaction the worst case scenario, it is entirely optional.

We weren't 'assuming'. We were going by nintendo's rating. It is also why I've repeatedly said, I'm waiting for a direct.

Because I'm not assuming.

I'm obviously hoping a direct will mention what the in app purchases could be.

I preordered a switch and the game. o_O

i?m not really fond of the idea of paying for exclusive items; i mean, it?s already a couple hundred for the game and console and that?s not even including a switch online subscription, so why would they create exclusive stuff that costs irl money, too? sounds an awful lot like pocket camp :<

That cost me $60.

If there is any substance to that then it's one of the most ludicrous things I've ever heard. They want to discourage time-travel as it's not in the spirit of the game but they want to find ways to speed up the game? What a load of tosh.

I'm just posting what the dude said, and that he isn't really sure.

They don't have 100% facts of the game yet.

Especially if the 'speed things up' could apply to crafting.. which was shown to be instant in the game play we've seen. Sounds like the fella was just saying what he thought could be a correct answer without knowing the answer.
