New Revolution Name Discussion

I hate it. The word Revolution invokes a sense of dissent, a rebellion against the gaming industry. "Wii" does not convey this message, well at least to English speaking people. They should have just let it have two names. Like the Famicon and the NES.

Oh well, I'll probably get it anyway.

Of course I'm going to get it. The name doesn't change the hardware stuff.

And OMG it's that guy! Flummoxer!

One would think that people who are interested in the games console market would have better things to do with their time than discuss the pros and cons of a name. After searching the web, I found some very good reasons why people don't like or like the name Wii. This may be long:

On the BAD NAME side:

"Simply, I think that it is a bad name because it will most likely become synonymous with another generation of damaging yet totally avoidable errors. It's not just the name but the implications and actions that follow. It may be a good move in Japan (and inadvertedly, France), where Wii is obviously much easier to roll off that Revolution."

"Nintendo have commented that it will eventually roll off the tongue and the inevitable jokes will stop. But this is very unlikely, as I don't seem to recall any other company naming their product after bodily waste.
Yahoo, Google and iPod were all different, yes. However, they weren't stupid. If Nintendo had called their product something different then the name would probably have worked, but as it is it gives the perception that the company is losing touch with gamers. Nintendo needs to be seen as cool, and they aren't going to be seen as "cool" by non-gamers by calling their product a Wii... "

Some on the good side:

The Rev was such a better name! I probably won't get it now... <_<
You're... not getting a system because of the name? Wow... just wow...

Mmkay, suit yourself, but I'll be enjoying SSB3, AC Wii, Mario 128, Zelda Wii, Metroid Prime 3, Miyamoto's new IP... and other unannounced games.

out of the whole thread this quote is the only one positve and sounds as if written by some one that has an IQ

I personally think the name is fine. Who cares what the name is? When you think about it the name doesn't matter it is how the system performs, and personally I think Xbox and Playstation are getting to hyped up and are fogetting what matters the most, the gamer.

Either way the name is awsome.

If I knew nothing about the consels and saw the 3 I would choose the Wii with its creativeness, name and system.

Also Redsteel and TP will be awsome on it. Imagine shooting arrows at enemies by moving your body and slashing peoeple by moving your hand verticaly.

It is one step closer to being in the game. PS3 and Xbox360 are still in the graphics era.

Wii is an awesome name, you'll get used to it. I got used to it in about 2 hours :p. Wii sounds more like a system than Revolution.

I'd rather not. Seriosly, who wants to have to start running around just to move in the game and hack away with the controller in to the air. Not me. I'm perfectly fine with staying still when I play.

Well, good luck telling the store clerk that you want a Revolution... Meanwhile, I'll actually be playing one. >_>;

I've grown gradually used to it....

The revolution could be used in a Beatles Song

"You say you want a Revolution!"

....YES! WE WANT THE REVOLUTION!
