So let’s say that we can get HD remakes of the N64 games for a future console or for something like an N64 Classic. If you have any suggestions for the remakes, you may use this thread to post.

An obvious suggestion is that the graphics of each game should get an overhaul, especially Super Mario 64. Sharpness, frame rate, and the blocky graphics need updating. They were good for the time they came out, but now they’re cringeworthy.

What this thread is for is gameplay suggestions and feature suggestions, where you can fix something from an older game. Like in Super Mario 64, you can improve the camera. Or in Ocarina of Time, it should be like the 3DS version with an additional camera control. You can make one suggestion, two suggestions, sixty-four suggestions, or how many you like for one or more games.

At the same time, you can also suggest that something should not change in the remakes. Like if you like the older music or sound effects, your remake suggestion is that they don’t get changed.

I know it probably won't happen, but I think it would be neat if they remade the original smash brothers with just the characters from the original game in modern graphics and art style.

Maybe even place in some of the cut characters from the N64 version like King DDD.

I have plenty, but here’s a few:

Super Mario 64:
  • Mario should no longer be stunned if he bumps into a wall by simply jumping. He only faces bonking if you dive into a wall.
  • Camera should be fixed.
  • Every level should have its own level lock (except for Bob-omb Battlefield, Hazy-Maze Cave, Wet-Dry World, and Tick-Tick Clock).
  • Health and air meters should be separated.

Diddy Kong Racing:
  • Slow down Wizpig in the first Wizpig race in both Adventure and Adventure Two modes.
  • Do not replace or even remove Banjo or Conker.
  • Do not update the soundtrack or sound effects.

Ocarina of Time:
  • You should change the camera around you (no version of Ocarina of Time allowed that).
  • Gameplay should follow the 3DS version.
  • Replace Biggoron’s Sword with a more improved Master Sword or at least make it impractical for fighting bosses.
  • Make all bosses from Barinade to Twinrova easier, but Ganondorf and Ganon should be made more difficult.

Donkey Kong 64:
  • Remove the DK Arcade and Jetpac games, while the 15-banana medal requirement applies to simply getting the final boss key.
  • Tag Barrel shouldn’t replenish health. You should also be able to switch Kongs on the go.
  • Slow down some of the characters you challenge to a race (especially the rabbit).

Pokémon Stadium:
  • Battling mechanics (like the Physical/Special split, Special Attack and Special Defense stats, and the modern type-effectiveness chart) should be based on Gen 6 and later. But no abilities.
  • Moves are the same as in Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu/Let’s Go Eevee.
  • Alolan form Pokémon added to the roster.
  • Continues you earn from Stadium Mode and Gym Leader Castle are saved and can be used anywhere instead of just the same cup.

Diddy Kong Racing;

60-frames per second action.

22-character roster - 14 available from start (Diddy, Banjo, Conker, Krunch, Tiptup, Timber, Bumper, and Pipsy from the original - plus Dixie, Kiddy, Gnawty, Tooty, Mumbo, and Berri in addition) and 8 unlockables (Drumstick and T.T. from the original - plus Taj, Wizpig, and the bosses Tricky, Bluey, Bubbler, and Smokey).

3 additional tracks each in Dino Domain, Snowflake Mountain, Sherbet Island, Dragon Forest, and Future Fun Land - So each of them having 7 main tracks instead of 4.

Lower the difficulty of the first Wizpig race.

I’d like to see Paper Mario get the Thousand Year Door treatment. It could use some quality of life updates such as an optional easier way to pull off combos.

Here are few more:

Banjo-Kazooie:
  • Notes and Jinjos are saved once you collect them. No more high scores.
  • Levels are also saved even after dying or exiting.
  • If Grunty erases your save file after too many illegal cheats, the game immediately resets afterwards.
  • Stop and Swap items should be linked to save file instead of cartridge. Also, the only Stop and Swap items to obtain are the key, the magenta egg, the blue egg, and the yellow egg (relocated to the wine cellar).
Banjo-Tooie:
  • Remove rubber-banding with Canary Mary (or at least make her races require holding down the A button and letting go if you get too tired).
  • Eight unlockable cheats by pages (double feathers, double eggs, faster Banjo, no fall damage, slow health recovery without item, fix jukebox, jiggy hints, unlimited feathers, and unlimited eggs).
  • Add ten jiggies in Cauldron Keep. Also raise the last level requirements to 75 jiggies.
Mario Party 1:
  • Make the rotate stick games not speed-based, but also hold down A while rotating control stick.
Pokémon Snap:
  • No new courses needed, but add all missing Pokémon from the first generation.
  • Extend the courses a bit.
  • Make more Pokémon available as you take more photos.
  • Add a reward for beating all seven challenge scores - double album length.
Hey You, Pikachu:
  • Hardware issue - microphone should recognize all words and voices.
  • Make Eevee the host of the picnic party, and Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle are the guests.
  • Add new collectable items.

Kirby 64- Update the graphics to match Wild World and make controlling Kirby easier and add some additional moves to the Abilities (one or two) and add in the following Abilities: Sand, Water, and Leaf.
New Ability Combo ideas:
Water+Sand= Mud- Kirby gets to throw mud at enemies which immobilize them and he can also form a sword made out of hardened mud
Needle+Leaf= Cactus- Kirby becomes a walking cactus and can shoot out needles as projectiles. Also gains the ability to become temporarily invulnerable and damage enemies that touch Kirby similar to Stone
Water+Ice=Icy Flood Ride- Kirby basically does the Water Dash attack except it leaves a freeze trail of ice and it instantly freezes enemies.
Sand+Bomb= Sand Trap- Kirby tosses explosive sand on the ground that traps enemies and can be detonated afterwards
Sand+Fire= Lava Rider- Kirby summons a wave of molten lava and surf on it as it catches everything on fire.
Water+Fire= Steam Blast- Kirby charges up and releases super hot steam that can melt ice obstacles and create a smokescreen for defensive purposes.
Leaf+Fire= Burning Bush- Kirby becomes a walking bush that can ignite at will which will allow him to run faster and set enemies on fire by dashing through them.
Leaf+Cutter= Giant Leaf Blade- Kirby wields a comically huge leaf and swings it around
