Mafia Official TBT Mafia General Thread - Game Types/Bans/Hosting

Hello friends, I'd like to make a Breaking Bad mafia and a Death Note mini mafia in the future.

Q: Should players who go inactive and then complain that the lack of posts (or abundance) be penalized with a ban?

Been noticing an increase of people "bored" with games, complain about the lack of in thread communication, and then sign up for other games to play those until "bored" again. Should some form of action be taken against players who show this kind of attitude via bans or through some other form of punishment?

Also punishment for experienced players "****posting"?

I'm not one of these players. I'm a little paranoid over dropping out of Mean Girls mafia right now.

Honestly, I think that if you get bored and complain about the lack of talking in the thread, you're nothing but a hypocrite. I don't know what action could be taken against people who do this because the banlist is enforced by hosts if they want to.

I don't know where we draw the line between ****posting and strategic spam is.

I know, this wasn't directed at you, Pally or that other person. Just been kicking around my mind for a few days. Not naming names as I'm sure those guilty already know who they are.

True, but if the "official" banlist could be updated a little more often (maybe a separate thread now that we have a board?) perhaps something to enforce? Maybe limit the player in some way, like the amount of games they can participate in at a time until a certain date.

Little uncertain as well about that line, but I feel like this is an issue that could only get worse if not addressed. It's more alarming when "experienced" players are doing this too, as they know how to misled, distract and confuse town as scum.

I guess the line would be depending on their role? A Fool should be allowed to spam at some extent, and possibly the Mafia in some cases. A town/mafia-aligned player who spams a lot (one joke should be fine in some cases) should either have a strict warning (next warning = ban) or a ban, depending on the offense, but that's just my opinion.

The problem could be because of new players and experienced players playing together. I kind of doubt it though, in previous games new players were welcomed and the game went fine. Some people have complained about the game itself being slow, so maybe hosts should do something to prevent that? Examples include posting the Day/Night posts as soon as possible, cutting the amount of Greens, increasing the Mafia count, add in a game-changing role/feature, etc.

Or it's time to shorten the day and night periods. I remember a lot of the players coming to play mafia here commented on how surprised they were about how long these games take. Even in a main mafia, I don't think it's necessary anymore to have a 48 hour day. People usually slack off in that time until the last 5 hours anyway.

Hosts can even limit their days/nights to under 24 hours. However, I would suggest they make sure they follow a strict schedule and every day and night post is posted at the same hour. That way, if the days and nights do not work with anyone's time zone, they simply don't sign up.

Well the problem with shortening day and nights and making sure posts go up on time at the exact time is that most games, people hosting put off writing the flavor text until AFTER the lynch candidate is official. Which makes sense but it puts off the post until roughly half an hour later.

It'll be the host's decision if they want shortened Days/Nights and then follow a strict schedule like that. If a host does choose to do that, I would assume they would be prepared to post at their scheduled time.

To be honest, that could be easily solved be implementing the "no actions 30 mins before deadline" rule. That way they have plenty of time to write up some flavor text and get everything organized. I know I didn't use that rule and struggled to get my posts up perfectly on time (most were 15-30 mins late).

48 hour days just drag on and on and on. I like the 24 hour system because there's something happening each day. Minis usually do the 24 hour, maybe a main game host could give it a nice test run? It would lessen the boredom and disinterest that people get when the days are so long and hopefully cut down on the spam.

I have noticed that it's a BIG problem that people sign up just to get red or blue roles and stop playing if they're saddled with just a green townie. I mean there's always a chance that you'll land townie in a game and if you hate the role that much, it would be less rude to the host to just not sign up. People put a lot of effort in their games. );

TBT Mafia Games Completed: uhm 16 I think?
Game Type: Mini Mafia - 21 Players
Game Theme: Bird Mafia II: Attack of the Ostrich
Game Setup Notes: Town vs. Ostrich Mafia. There will also be several players who are playing their own game within the mafia game. It will not interfere with what happens between the main theme of Town v. Mafia, and those players will also be sided with town. Closed setup too.

Most players have wisened up to the Fool role even though I don't believe a single game has actually included it. Spamming isn't going to get the Fool lynched at this point, as third party counts towards town numbers and people want that extra safety cushion. If a Fool is actually included, the player will need to be crafty enough to avoid spamming now.

Cutting the amount of greens is something I've thought about, however we don't want to tip the balance of power in town's favor too often. Maybe up or rework the Masons (after all, they're townie but know other confirmed townies)? Balance needs to be thought about when considering cutting the greens. Another problem is right now hosts are kind of limited to using the forum for the game, so while their might be exciting roles (for example I've been trying to think of ways to include the Disguiser from Epic Mafia) we have to rework things to get them to work on the forum or simply give it the shaft.

Maybe it's time to adjust timing to fit in with summer off hours, but I think the 48/24 worked fine during school. 36/24 to account for the non-American players seem like a good idea?

Also hi Minties!

Yeah, that sounds good. But if any Main Mafia host is ambitious enough to do a 24/24, then I think that'd be fine too. Main Mafias still have at least ten more players than mini mafias, so they are still going to be much longer even with the same time constraints.

Yeah, but the 24/24 would have to be well planned to account for all timezones.
