Went to get my reading from Katrina and I got the good luck with belongings fortune. Go back and make my rounds, hit all the rocks. I find the daily glowing spot and as soon as I dig up the bells, my shovel breaks!!

What gives!? The improved belongings fortune means that after you get the fortune tools aren't supposed to break for the rest of the day. I even got the variation of the reading where Katrina explicitly says my tools don't break. Is my game glitched or something?

I haven't unlocked Katrina's tent yet, so I don't know much about how luck in NH works. I decided to check Nookipedia, and it turns out tools that have already been used will still break... thus nullifying the entire point of the fortune. Why did Nintendo think tools (aside from axes) breaking was a good idea? That's a mystery not even the fortune-teller, herself, could ever figure out.

It works the same way that the fishing rod does during the fishing tourney ... Your shovel was one hit away from breaking, but rocks give you grace ... Once you used it after that, it broke ... Katrina's fortune only works on tools that aren't already technically "broken" ...

Okay, but why would it wait to break after I hit all six rocks, dug up a stump, and then dug up the glowing spot? That strikes me as a good deal more than one hit away from breaking. On any other day a shovel can and has broken on me in between any one of those activities, including between rocks.

I mean, maybe I'm wrong, but I always felt like tools breaking was another way to artificially lengthen the games playtime. Your tool breaks. Now you got to go gather more resources to craft another. Rinse repeat.

Anyway what a useless fortune. Like how hard would it be for them to code a grace on your already used tools?

I 100% feel the same way. SO many design decisions in NH feel purposefully done to pad the game out as much as possible/waste your time :/
