Old Hollywood Thread

I thought I had seen all the Vincent Price / Edgar Allen Poe films. Yet somehow I missed this one? I'll have to check it out sometime. It even has Boris Karloff in it. Those are two of my favorite horror actors.
The comments also suggested the Comedy of Terrors. Nice word play. Would you recommend?

There is also this one where he dramatically recites Poe's work.

One more thing, I was able to get one of his cookbooks. "Mary and Vincent Price's Come into the Kitchen Cook Book"

This person has a different one, in addition to an older version of mine.

I think mine has more of a focus on historical recipes, which is funny because I've been watching a youtube channel called Tasting History with Max Miller.

I find it funny how Dean Martin's real name was Dino Paul Crocetti. Imagine if he went by Dino Martin instead of Dean Martin lol.
Dean Martin's oldest son was named Dino Paul Crocetti Jr. and was also an actor and singer like his father. He sometimes used the name "Dino Martin" during his career.

On IMDB I read that Edward G. Robinson once said if he was “a bit taller and a bit more handsome” he could have played a wider variety of roles. That could be true, and I know how Hollywood was/is, but…personally I find him handsome. 😜

Apparently he inspired Chief Wiggum’s voice lol. Wonder what Edward would have thought, had he lived to see The Simpsons. In one interview he said he was bored of seeing impressions of himself…but in cartoon form? No telling. Would be a change of scenery, at least.

Some old Christmas movies I enjoy:

—A Christmas Carol (1938)— Have on DVD

—Miracle on 34th Street (1947)— The remake has nothing one this one.

—Meet Me in St. Louis (1944)

—White Christmas (1954)

No, I do not like It’s a Wonderful Life. Might be my most controversial Old Hollywood opinion…but it kinda drags.

The 1938 version of A Christmas Carol is also one of my favorites.Amazingly, there is one member of that cast who is still alive.June Lockhart is 99 years old and is the daughter of Gene and Kathleen Lockhart who played Mr. and Mrs.Cratchit in the same movie.June Lockhart played one of the Cratchit's children in the movie(quite a stretch,eh?).She was also in Meet Me In St.Louis.

Yeah. I tried watching the 1951 version of A Christmas Carol one year, and it just wasn't the same.

Also, from the 1938 version: "I say, you're govna's a crusty old bird." is one of my favorite quotes/inside jokes with family :ROFLMAO:

I like the 1951 version but it's rather dark compared to the '38 version and they added some stuff that wasn't in the book.

"Look who's coming down the street....a bloomin' topper!"
