Opinions on ads/adblock?

I don't really mind them, I just block them if there's too many. I don't really take an issue with ads, but I don't like that the sole reason they can target your interests is because of Google / Facebook, etc., collecting data to use for their own ad marketing. It is what it is, though.

Oh yeah...those "coincidence" ads are 100% not a coincidence.

It's the same technology that makes something like Siri or Alexa work.

If you have a cellphone in the room with you, it will pick up a word or phrase and then show you ads about that. I mean...there are some times when people are paranoid for no reason...but, this is absolutely a thing that is real. Not a coincidence in the least. It's in the fine print of almost every app you install that they are allowed to access your microphone. And that is exactly the reason why...

Been using adblock on the internet for many years now. People can argue that it helps companies/people all they want, but with some people embedding malware into ads, there is no way I'm going without adblock.

They aren't, everything is spying on you, from viewing habbits, to the microphones on your phone.
It's an open secret, and nobody cares..
It's also why all the people in big tech industries remove any and all webcams and mics, they don't want the same treatment they're dishing out, it's so disgusting.
And it's so obvious, but again nobody seems to care..
Yeah, I had to use my cam with zoom now bc dumb class but gonna get a cover again for it once it's over like bro... love how little they care that ppl spy on them too lol...

this too. i have it off for smaller site like this and some blogs(bc it blocks extensions n stuff) i wanna support and some that forces you in order to read but yeah never turning it on for larger sites bc they don't give a hoot about what ads they have in there

We use adblock all the time and we really don't like ads, they definitely are invasive honestly feel like brainwashing. It's extremely strange that no one seems to care about being spied on, and admittedly even when it comes to myself I still feel desensitized to it.

For some reason we always get ads for the military when adblock is turned off? It's kind of funny to be playing like Webkinz and getting an ad for the US Army. Though that feels a lot like propaganda to me and I think that might be why we are getting those ads, especially since we're kind of against the military and can't even join it for being mentally ill.

I have 4 different adblocking apps and a VPN as well. I don't want companies to know my habits or anything about me really. If it's a site I want to support, I'll turn them off or donate in other ways. Yeah, so many of them have hidden tracking cookies. I worry about my mom who's not that tech-savvy.

While there are some good ads out there, so many are just terrible and annoying. Especially mobile game ads - they are the absolute worst, with some of them even being straight up misleading and misinformative about the 'game' they're trying to sell.

I also can't stand how frequently they show up. It feels like they're literally everywhere, and even then they're almost always in groups of at least five. One of the reasons why I have an adblocker is because it gives me a place where I'm completely free from companies constantly trying to get me to buy this and buy that. And don't get me started on the ways they gather data and use it to show you specific ads...

I wish these sites would stop shoving ads in our faces and instead use less intrusive, irritating and shady ways of earning money more. But sadly, I don't think that's gonna happen because ads help them so much.

I always use an adblocker when using my competitor's website as AdSense is his primary source of revenue and I don't want to contribute to his cartel based operations, but I usually disable adblocker elsewhere

i don't mind ads on sites where they're supporting the site/creator of whatever i'm consuming - like i have youtube, myanimelist, tbt, dragon cave, and some other sites. it's all stuff that i actually want to support (in the case of youtube, the creators), and since i can't feasibly donate money or anything, i figure i might as well view ads since they aren't horribly intrusive.

my main use for my adblocker is for 9anime because i don't want to see unsavory ads and i don't want to be redirected every time i click play. i'd rather not have to use a pirating site at all and therefore not really have to use an adblocker, but since a lot of anime beyond the more popular stuff isn't on netflix/hulu/amazon prime/other legal sites my family pays for, i kinda have to unless i want to miss out on so much good anime - though this that's starting to get off topic.

anyway, if anyone is looking for a good adblocker, i'd reccommend ublock origin. it works well.

Talking about games where you have to watch ads to procedd (not just for getting bonus coins, to actually click a button there) I'm baffled so many people are okay with it... Like if I see some phone game having an app I'm not getting it or deleting it if it doesn't say.

I love my adblock. If a website forces me into disabling so I can continue, I never visit that website anymore.

you know I was thinking about this the other day. how many times do you actually see an ad and think, "huh that ad was funny/informative, I think I'll buy their product!" like??? not me.

I'm currently looking to buy renters insurance for my first apartment and my mom said to me the other day, "you should get Geico, the gecko is so cute!" and I'm like no mom, the quote I got from them was actually kind of pricey. like I'm literally going to buy the cheapest option out there, I don't care if your company mascot is cute lmao

oh also if it wasn't clear I do use ad block lol

I use ad block and it's one of the reasons why I don't like using my phone/apps because I don't have ad block there. When I see someone else watching a youtube video on their phone and the ad plays it hurts my soul.

Adblock improved my life so much lol, I can't believe people just watch YouTube with ads on,, it's awful 😓 Adverts generally make me less likely to buy a product since they annoy me so much, I begin to resent the company when I see an ad over and over again.

I also avoid websites that require you to disable adblock if I can help it.

I’ve got an adblock extension on my web browser and honestly it’s the best, especially on sites that run adverts as wallpaper in the background.
