Hey guys just wanted to see some of your opinions on the new pokemon arceus game that's coming out next year. I really love the open-world design, which I've been hoping for for so long. I also like the storyline with the whole arceus legend. The diamond and pearl remakes disappointed me, but this game looks really cool. What do you guys think?

(Trailer):

i'm not too bothered about the DP remakes since i didn't really want them in the first place

but i was sooo happy when i saw pokemon legends and i'm glad the DP remakes don't interest me because then i can save my money and get this lol
while the graphics are a little meh, it still looks like an incrdible game and i'm super excited to play it! 💖

i definitely preferred it to the other DP remake, since the chibi-design they opted to use for that one is really offputting to me. i probably won't buy it for that reason, but we'll see.

this, however, i am excited for. (well, as excited as i can be.) i know a lot of people have been ragging on the graphics etc. but it looks super early to me, and like this is just something they threw together for the trailer -- i have some faith that it'll look a lot better come release. hopefully they take the criticism SW/SH received with its wild area design etc. and improve on that.

also hoping there's still character customization though. if it turns out there isn't, i won't be buying it. in games like pokemon, i'd really prefer to have a protagonist modelled after myself (or any character i choose) than be forced to be X or look X way. that's definitely a deal breaker for me if i don't care for the protagonist's default design. (which is the case here.)

I agree that the chibi design for the DP remake isn't that great (imo anyway). No customization would be bad, yeah.

BDSP
The chibi design is certainly not what I was expecting. As long as they add new content amd QoL improvements and not make it a remaster then I can overlook it. Since Porygon-Z is in the trailer, thankfully the Platinum dex is in, so we don't have to only choose either Chimchar or Ponyta line for Fire types. The battle scenes are NOT chibi btw so that is a plus if you find the chibi style too grating. Hopefully they add DLC events for Darkrai and Shaymin (Gracidea girl is in trailer) and maybe have the Battle Tower and surrounding Areas become a Wild Area. Amity Square should let us have following Pokemon so maybe following Pokemon is post game content. Either way, I am dreading that it might be a remaster and not a proper remake. ORAS might be controversial but it was a proper remake.

PL:A
This is what I am really excited for. There are so many possibilities what they might do. They still have a year to work on it so hopefully they'll improve the graphics by release so we don't get SwSh trees lol. There might be new Pokemon in the game which would be exciting. The starters might even have new fully evolved evolutions so it could really change everything we know about Pokemon. GF love breaking "patterns" and this game certainly is a curveball. The player characters have a crest on their sleeves that are similiar to the Team Galactic logo which is interesting. The "Professor" could turn out to be evil (I'd love that honestly). The game seems it will be lore-based since Arceus is the star. There probably won't be a proper Arceus event for the "remakes" but if they expand on the lore of Arceus and give it new toys to play with I will be very, VERY happy.

I'll buy it...day one.

But...it looks very empty and very muddy to me. Honestly, it's a similar style to Breath of the Wild. And I'm not a huge fan of that visual style to begin with. It also seems somehow emptier than Sword and Shield, which I already thought had a problem with empty landscapes and repetative encounters.

I'm reserving my official opinion until I play it (or at least until more content is shown closer to launch.)

But...my initial reaction is that it looks unfinished.

I'm actually the opposite with regards to the remakes vs. Legends. What worries me is the timeframe they have left. What they have is very clearly an early build, which means they only have roughly a year to finish everything. I like the choice of the starters, and on paper, it sounds like a very cool idea; especially since I have always wanted an open-world Pokemon game with realistic mechanics. But it seems like they're trying to go for a game like Breath of the Wild, which took well over the two-ish year timeframe that GameFreak has, and I am slightly doubtful that while the game might look better at release, it still won't look good. Of course I will wait for more details, because there's always a chance they'll muster up something that looks gorgeous, but given GameFreak's experience with Sword and Shield, I'm a tad worried.

As for the remakes though, I am in love :) I know everyone hates the art style, but I like it! Making it too much like Sword and Shield's art style would've meant changing the scope and size of the world and it would not have felt the same way it did in 2007. I of course think they could fine-tune the lighting a bit on the models in battle, since the characters look like their from Pokemon Home and the colours don't mesh that well together. Nonetheless, I'll definitely be buying the game on launch day!

I think I’m one of the few people that is excited for both BDSP and PL:A. I don’t have my copy of Diamond/Pearl/Platinum anymore as I traded in pretty much my entire Pokemon game collection in order to get my Switch for a cheap price a year or two ago (I ended up getting the Switch and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate all for only $12 out of pocket!). To be able to play it again, but on the Switch, is a dream come true. As far as Pokemon Legends: Arceus goes, I’m really, really excited to see what they do with it. I feel like what they showed initially is just the tip of the iceberg, and it’s going to turn out to be a really great game. I’ll withhold my final judgment until I’ve actually played both games, but right now I’m very excited for both of them. 😁

I'm not excited for the DP remakes, especially with their chibi art style, so I don't think I'll be buying them, especially since I still have a working copy of Pokemon Platinum.

I'm pretty excited about Legends Arceus though! A pokemon game set in the past is something I've wanted for a long time but didn't think I'd ever get. I never cared much for making pokemon open world, but I'm intrigued to see how they pull it off.

I think it's a great idea, this game. I think it's a good concept in that it'll give players something new, but I don't think it should be a permanent direction going forward. It's more like a one off and if it does well release similar games in scattered increments. A game like this should feel special; you oversaturate by releasing too many like it and it just becomes the norm.

I'm really excited for the remakes and Legends. I'm not crazy about the DP remakes graphics, because it kind of feels like a step back, but graphics don't make the game! And I'm still going to give it a fair chance. But as for legends... oh man. I'm pretty much drooling over it. I can't wait.

Legends reminds me of Pokemon Conquest, which I really enjoyed, so I’m watching cautiously with interest. It seems like it could be another fun Pokemon game set in times of yore. The BDSP remakes interest me more though, the art style being appealing to me among other things, yet I look forward to more info on both games.

I would have been more excited if it wasn't developed by GameFreak. They are just too lazy to be ambitious ever since they switched to 3D graphics. They also really need to hire new programmers who have experience with 3D modelling. GameFreak is one of the richest companies in the world even.

Because while the CONCEPT of "Legends: Arceus" seems good, graphically it looks so muddy and lifeless. Not to mention the framerate is like when your island in New Horizons is cluttered to the max and your game stutters. That's how the Pokémon were moving in Legends.

But yeah, I'm not even gonna talk what happened to Diamond and Pearl...

I'm excited for both the D/P remakes and the new PLA game and am looking forward to getting both of them once they're released. When the initial D/P games came out I really enjoyed playing Diamond but I've long since lost my copy so I'm glad it's getting remade and I'll get to play through it again now on the Switch, I will be a bit disappointed if there's no new content but it won't stop me getting the game. Also the choice of graphics was a bit of a shock and not really something I was keen on when I first saw it but I'm sure it will be something that I'll just get used to once I start playing it.

Pokemon Legends Arceus looks like such an exciting game and I'm really interested by its setting in the past and how that will play out in the game. There is still a lot to find out about the game and improvements made but I can't wait till next year when it is released and I get the chance to play it, so far it's sounding like it could be a great game :giggle:
