Opinions on time travel?

There is no right way to play animal crossing, and that’s what makes this game wonderful! If you want to time travel, then you should, and it doesn’t matter the reason you time travel for, you are simply free to do so. Sure, the game was intended to be played slowly, and it has a relaxed pace, but that doesn’t mean everyone has to play like that.
I don’t time travel, ever; not because I think it’s like “cheating”but because it kills the game for me. I time traveled once and then I couldn’t stop anymore, to the point where I felt detached to my island and my progress and had to restart. I made a promise to myself to never time travel again, and I never did. But that’s just me; if time travelling is suited for you then go ahead 😊

I just find closing and reloading the game so tedious, so I don't TT often. I'll go back a couple of days for a missed event, but I've missed big chunks of time where I haven't been playing and I'll just wait till they roll round again. It gives me something to look forward to.

You do you.

For me time travelling ruins the reasons I play animal crossing, which is looking forward to see whats new everyday and checking in on my town. Its not about burning through all the content and "finishing" the game. That said I have time travelled to move someone out for example when my friend had a villager for me etc. But I would never do it as a part of normal gameplay for me. It would ruin my fun with the game.

i time travel a lot because i’m super impatient and playing on irl time tires me out! i’ve been tting since new leaf and i don’t really see an issue in it like some people do! i wish i had the patience to play without doing it but that’s how i enjoy my game

In the GC version, I did it both ways and I remember having fun both ways. I remember time travelling spoiling things for me too tho. It's very much like real life in my view. If you rush to get everything you ever wanted, you tend to miss the little things along the way. Now how you time travel can very much change this experience but yeah. I remember when I time travelled like a madman to get as many bells as possible and to basically divulge myself with everything I wanted etcetc, I ended up being like "damnn.. welll... what now" lol. But when I time traveled in moderation, that was a lot healthier for me and I didn't feel as badly.

In NH, I haven't time travelled at all and don't really plan to for two main reasons. The first reason is because of my experiences with overindulgance. I just feel like now, there's more of a reason to take things slow and enjoy everything that comes little by little and on a daily basis, like real life. I'm playing in a way where I'm kind of using the game as like a precursor for life if that makes sense lol. I'm using it as a guide. If I can stop and smell the flowers, take things slow, get good at getting bells, be friendly with villagers and make friends and connections in the game by just being myself and taking things as they're meant to, I feel like I can take that lesson and apply it to real life, as well. I've very much connected having a purpose with NH when it comes to playing and experiencing it.

The second reason was kind of wrapped up in the first reason I just mentioned but yeah. Since there's so much and I mean hoh my god, so much more content in NH compared to the Gamecube version, I personally feel like it's not necessary. I'm actually really surprised at all of the cool new items that came with this recent update; that definitely made a difference too. I look forward to seeing what new items will arrive at Tom's store, moderating my town and my home and enjoying the seasons as they come naturally.

But I def feel like in the future, I'll end up having fun time travelling as well like I used to. Just probably not anytime soon I really don't think. I can see playing this game for at least a straight year without time travelling just to enjoy every season and holiday naturally.

You purchased the game and I think it’s just your right to play it the way you want to. It’s a life sim game and I really believe there’s no such thing as cheating in a game that is not competitive in nature. Good for the people who can play the game “as intended” but personally, I time travel. Not excessively but only to play days I missed especially events I missed because I actually have a life outside animal crossing and that takes priority over a game. Sometimes I also play several days at a time when I have a lot of free time during weekends etc. Honestly, I’m not a fan of playing the game “as intended” (short bursts within the day everyday) because I just don’t like to be dictated and told when I should play a game I bought and for how long. I don’t have the luxury to play the game everyday consistently because as I said, real life exists. Being forced to log in everyday to play takes the fun out of playing for me and makes it seem more of an added responsibility instead of a hobby. I wanna be able to play the game whenever I have time to play it and however long I want to play it. It could be ten mins today and one hour tomorrow and not at all the day after. It could be twice a week on weekends only but 4 to 6 hours at a time. It’s a full title game I bought on a console and dictating how long and when I play makes it feel like a free to play on mobile game and that just doesn’t sit right with me.

I used to be completely against time travel, but when NH released I was very pregnant with my son. Like middle of third trimester. I tt’d a little to get Pekoe fully moved in via amiibo when the functionality unlocked because I wanted to be able to enjoy her as much as possible before I would likely be too busy to play. Since having my son, I would TT within the same day to get late night fish because as a new mom I didn’t have it in me to stay up and play the game late enough to catch them. If I was awake late, it was to feed the baby, not play games. Lol

Now that I’m pregnant again(24 weeks tomorrow), I’ll admit I’ve tt’d some again. Mostly to unlock all of Harv’s plaza so I have longer to enjoy it, especially since this time around I’m taking care of my toddler full time and I wanted to make the most of my free time.
In general though, I prefer to play day to day.

Congrats on the babies. 🙏

Like others say, play the way you want to play it. I am kinda getting tired of this whole debate going on. Time traveling is your choice and its not going to hurt anyone. For me personally I only time travel if I want to get items ordered from my nook catalog and get them the next day, but I don't do it often so it doesn't learn to burnout on the game.

Exactly. Everybody gets enjoyment out of the game in their own way. I personally don't care about others time traveling to speed through their island creation process.

I'm fine with people that do it. As a kid I did it all the time. Though nowadays I much prefer to take my time and enjoy the game instead of steamroll through it. I have hardly messed with time at all in New Horizons and I've had much more fun playing that way.

Play how you want to play honestly. Though I would recommend not time traveling if possible.

I fully believe TT-ing is better for some people and their playstyles, but I massively burnt myself out on the game by doing it, and now that I've reset my island, I'm going to do my best to only do it sometimes/not at all. I think in my case, it just exacerbates my completionist syndrome and makes the game feel like a chore rather than something I do for fun, so that's why I'm trying to avoid it!

Like others have said, I don't feel entitled to an opinion on what others do on their own islands. For me, personally, I've never time traveled--not in New Leaf or New Horizons. I've been tempted to, of course, on numerous occasions (mostly to speed up villagers already moving out), but the enjoyment I get within the game's natural limitations is enough to stop me from accelerating the flow of time. I've been so busy at work irl lately that the slow pace of the game has become even more important to me, and a source of relaxation in itself.

I don't mind it either way, people can (and should) play the game the way they want to.

I used to TT a lot in NL, I've TTed a bit in NH, and since the update I barely do it because I feel like there's enough for me to do in a day and enjoy it. I like the slow pace but I think it's useful if I'm playing the game late (especially before the ordinances were included in NH) and want the shops to be open.

I do enjoy time traveling but I can understand the burnout argument remember getting burnt out of NL multiple times due to time traveling wouldn't play for months! but I feel no matter what I will get burnt out part of me does want to give slow and steady a go again but I don't really got the money for a whole new Switch LOL and I do understand the idea of healthy time traveling like maybe I'll time travel less once I get 5 stars? and who knows maybe I'll get burnt out and reset my island again and go day by day (eitherway I am time traveling through the tutorial even if I stopped time traveling LOL) but like I said I just like to do bursts and that is why I think at least rn time traveling is perfect for my playstyle although maybe I will try to do less days or try to be on 1 day longer and not just do my dailies

I time travel if I miss events or special items you can only get at certain times, somtimes getting on during when events are on is hard, especially when some are one day only, I can somtimes go a week or two with not being able to get on so for me being able to time travel back is great, I just wish weeds weren't so annoying when you go back to normal time

I don't see it as cheating to be honest, an you should be able to play the game however you like, to me cheating would be doing somthing that affects other players and their gameplay an it's not like AC is a multiplayer game where cheating would have a impact, the most you can do is go visit others an buy an sell stuff to them
