Opinions on time travel?

Time traveling in Animal Crossing is like fighting in hockey: Not everybody likes it but it's definitely part of the game and always will be until Nintendo decides to stop letting players do it.I do some time traveling but I never go more than a few days ahead.

I have nothing against it, I've tried it myself in the past, I just decided that play style is not for me. I found I grew bored of the game much much faster if I rushed through the content. Taking things easy and playing day by day at a slower pace is better for me

For myself personally, I'm against it. Time traveling would take the charm away for me, and the real time clock was what made the game appealing in the first place.

However, if others wanna time travel, of course they can. The more people that can enjoy Animal Crossing, the better! And that includes every play style. Plus, without the time travelers, most shops on here wouldn't exist so if people are judgmental about it, they also better not be using the shops at all otherwise it's a little hypocritical hehe

Personally, I don't really play with time traveling. However, I did restart my island recently and I gave myself permission to binge ACNH and TT day by day past the tutorial stage until I unlocked the upgraded resident services before coming back to present day.

Play how you want. There is no time-traveling police.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but I can't see the appeal of time traveling lots and lots all the time. that might be because I kinda did that in New Leaf and experienced the ultimate burnout. really ruined the game for me. I've time traveled a bit in New Horizons, though mostly to get seasonal items. sometimes because I got a little impatient. but I could never play regularly time traveling.

For me the best gameplay experience is short bursts on a daily basis, in real time so that's what I do.

However when it comes to other people? Be a time wizard, travel backwards, forwards, implement a time loop and keep those villagers in a groundhog day scenario; it's all good. At the end of the day when you purchase a game that has a very loose progression path to follow and is relatively free form in terms of how you play, only you can decide how best to play it.

I personally don't TT, simply because I often end up getting into the zone, and my dailies are a lot longer than most, due to my decorating, collecting, and chatting obsessions. That being said, I don't really care if anyone else chooses to TT or not. It all comes down to individual needs, wants, and playstyles!

If this is the incorrect place or not allowed let me know! I like to knock out multiple days in a row I understand that Nintendo intended for a slow experience but some just find that boring but still want to enjoy the game ya know? I don't time travel to "cheat" like do exploits or anything it's just to reset everything so I can play it for more than like 30 minutes a day I did actually try without time traveling and just for me personally I found it kind of boring :( now I'm not knocking people who DON'T time travel my sis played from the beginning and only recently started time traveling I just believe everyone is entitled to play how they want since they paid for it :) but I'm curious what you guys think! (If it doesn't break any rules that is)
I'm the exact same way! I tend to play games in bursts- multiples hours a day for a week or month of whatever, then I put it down for awhile, cycle to a new game, repeat. I usually do this with a couple games at once. And playing day by day? It just doesn't fit my play style. So I've been a TTer since day one of when I got the original Gamecube version. TBH, I was SHOCKED when I found out some people DON'T time travel! It was an essential part of the game for me and I assumed everyone did it (everyone I knew did- I even taught a few how and they started enjoying the game way more after). I remember meeting someone in college who played (I saw her boot up ACNL at the end of class and was like, "What's your name? No, IN GAME name..." and then told her what mine was since we'd passed each other before) and we started talking and one of the first things she said was, "Don't judge me, but I time travel and I'm not going to stop." I was just so confused.

I mean, I'm one of those people who are like, "Play how you wanna play, you do you, etc." But I honestly find myself a bit defensive of my time travelling online these days because some people get so weird about it. I was browsing custom designs on another sign and found multiple anti-time travelling signs, like political signs, for displaying on your island. Like... what? Why? Who are those far? For you, to pat yourself on the back? For your guests, to let them know you're judging them? For your villagers? It's just like... why? So bizarre. I mean, I don't see myself as better than people who don't time travel. But they're also not better than me (for that reason, at least). Some people treat it like a moral issue and it's really not. It's just a game. You can play how you want. Some people get really uppity about "cheating". And, while it's not technically how the game is meant to be played, it has been a viable way of playing since the first game. This is honestly the first main game they've added any limitations to it (and I still don't understand why- I'm glad that it looks like things have changed now with this last update). Most importantly, though- Animal Crossing games are single player. If this was a competitive game and you were cheating to get an edge? Not okay. But there's literally no way to win, no one to beat. You're playing purely for yourself- which means cheating is only what you define it as.

Though lately I've seen less angry anti-TTers and more people who don't hate those who do it, but think they're missing out or playing the game wrong, which IDK... it's almost more annoying to me? Like I've seen lists of ACNH tips (for new and old players) and there's often a "don't time travel! play day by day!" slipped in because of burnout/experiencing things in realtime/etc. saying how you really should only play it day by day and you're missing out on the real experience that way. Which is just super condescending to me. Like, I've played since the original North American release. Please don't try and tell me that I'm playing it "wrong" when I'm playing it how I enjoy it. And it kind of annoys me they're trying to tell new players only one way is correct, when those players may very well enjoy the game more if they time travel. Why not explain how it works and let them decide how they want to handle it instead of saying, "You may not know what this is, these words may mean nothing to you, BUT DON'T DO IT IF YOU KNOW WHAT'S GOOD FOR YOU" IDK. I know I'm overthinking it, but it annoys me, lol. Especially the "you won't enjoy it" thing. Some of the most fun I've had was in ACCF when I would TT from holiday to holiday, earning the rare furniture, and selling them for bells. That's how I paid off my home loan and furnished my house. It wasn't at all how it was intended to be played... but it was a blast. I played how I wanted to play, didn't judge myself as the weeds grew, and just had so much fun. Now, some people would hate playing like that. But that's the thing- they don't have to. You can play your own way.

So, yah. Sorry for my long rant, I guess I just feel rambly tonight 😂 But TL;DR: play how you wanna play and don't judge others for how they wanna play (to be super clear: I don't judge non-time travelers, if that's how they enjoy playing, great! I just don't like how I've been made to feel judged at times for how I enjoy playing and am now a bit defensive, lol)

Yeah I basically agree with everything you've said I don't judge them so why should they have the right to judge me? Just doesn't make much sense to me just glad the community isn't like that here :) and I wasn't aware some anti TTers went as far as putting signs to attack TTers like that's my whole point some people are judgemental over smth that doesn't effect them and it's just dumb to me haha why do we need politics in a chill game designed for kids?

As an overall opinion: AC is a game all about personal experience. There's no competitive nature to it, other than perhaps decorating. Whatever others do in their game only affects them so everyone should play in the way that makes them happiest. Nintendo tries to push people to play legitimately but honestly even other people hacking the game wouldn't change my experience.

For me personally, I've found that I have the most fun forcing myself to stick to the game's time. I like having to move my real-world schedule around the game and remember to come in everyday. I also get tired after so long so TTing forward would probably make me abandon the game more quickly. Playing in real-time forces me to take regular breaks which is nice. Normally for AC games I start out strictly not TTing and then after so many months/a year I'll go back a few hours (or rarely a few days) if I missed something important.

I will say though, if I see an island that's really cool and they say they don't TT that's more impressive to me than someone who did TT because that takes more time and patience!

I am 1 day ahead, as I TT'd the first day the dlc came out. But with work, and doing other adult things in my life, playing on real time still has plenty for me to do each day. Mind you, if im building somethign on the island I do trade w/ people to get items faster, but I dont TT for that. I dont think it matters if people do, but i think it ruins the game a bit if you're SOO far ahead just to get new items. idk, do what ya want tho :D

I personally don't TT. I came into this game not wanting to TT, and to date I still haven't. I'm glad I haven't, since it's given me a reason to keep playing this game daily and slowly work my way towards collecting/completing everything. If I TT'd, I know I would've stopped playing this game a long time ago before v2.0 since I'd basically have nothing to do, lol. But I don't really care whether or not anybody else TTs tbh. It's your game, your island, do what you want with it.

I TT'd through the first week of the game because that's where it feels the slowest because of everything you have to set up in the tutorial alone. I stopped after I upgraded Resident Services and got HHP unlocked.
Hell, in NL, I TT'd forward like 3 or so days and playing every day each TT'd day so that I'd unlock Tortimer Island, since that for me is when things don't feel so slow then.

Anyways, it's your game, do whatever you want since AC is not a competitive game. Nobody can stop you from TTing, and if they try...

Time Travel out of spite just because you can. :p

In my view it's a feature of the game and not "cheating" at all. I don't actually time travel that much these days myself and always stick to the month it actually is because i do like real world progression of the changing seasons - but that's the way I like to play. If players feel like experiencing Easter, Halloween and Christmas all on the same day why not? It's your gaming experience, play it how you like.

If you wabt to TT go for it. If you don't go for it is my opinion. There are positive and negative to both TT and nonTT. In past games when I personally TT it was great at first. But after a while it took the magic of coming to the game each day away for me. After all if I could play any day I wanted what was the point. So I burned out. And never picked up those titles again. However here I have yet to TT and though I might have breaks of game play I find myself logging on consistently and playing or coming back to it again and again and again. Sometimes new islands if I have finished or can't click with the old one sometimes not...once I "finish" and island I like to take screen shots and do a dream address then start over and do a new design. For me instead of a grind I actually like the beginning of the game and all the changes the island goes through.

I don't do it. But, anyone can do whatever they want with their game and I actually think it's neat you are able to go back to something you missed thanks to irl stuff. I personally don't like being spoiled by people who TT and say, get items weeks earlier than they should be normally available but there's no real way to avoid that kind of stuff, so I just try to stay as unspoiled as I can- I'm so very thankful to all the people who have used spoiler tags!

I do find it a bit silly when people TT and burn through months of content on a week and then complain about how there's nothing to do, but that's not a flaw of TT itself.

I don't care what others think about how I play my game, so I do time travel all the time. I really don't see the need to get pressed about it since it doesn't concern anyone else. I'm not talking about anyone on here, I'm talking about what I have seen on Twitter and such, although this was last year, so I don't know if people still get upset about it.... Which if they do, please find something more important to be worried about 😂

Anyways, yes I time travel. I just did before to start villager hunting.

i only time travel to catch up to present time after taking a break from the game or when i want to boot out a villager, but i have absolutely nothing against it or people who do it! it’s your game, play it however you want. :)

It’s ok, but it’s kinda like a double edged sword depending on how you use it.

I only tt if I’m behind all of the seasonal items and events and I do it so I can make it up.
