Place your random thoughts (video games in general edition)

I learned that Morton Koopa is named after Morton Downey Jr., a controversial TV host. Since the other Koopalings are named after musicians (Iggy Pop, Ludwig van Beethoven, etc.) I just assumed his name was from another musician.

As for the other Koopalings:
  • Roy Koopa: Roy Orbison

  • Larry Koopa: Larry Mullen Jr., the drummer for U2.

  • Wendy O. Koopa: Wendy O. Williams, lead singer of the punk band Plasmatics.

  • Lemmy Koopa: Lemmy Kilmister, founder of Motörhead.

I have been having a really hard time getting myself to play video games recently. It doesn't even matter if it's a game I love. Maybe this is depression...
I got out my Nintendo Switch today because I really needed a distraction and I just don't have the will to do anything.
I played 2 rounds of Tableturf in Splatoon 3 and that's it. Unless walking around counts as doing something.
I actually have a lot of games I am supposed to be playing. I got Portal 1 & 2 on the Switch and I haven't even touched them yet. Ugh.

Somehow my young coworkers got to talking about Gameboy Advance games, mainly Pokémon. They all want to buy GBA Advance SP's, and I told them I have one and will bring it to work to play with them.

They basically ignored me, like I was the old guy just trying to fit in to the conversation. They are in for a surprise tomorrow when they see my collection! I even have some of the games they were talking about buying, like Advance Wars.

You know, Mario kart 64, and Mario Kart Super Circuit are kinda harsh if you don't make it to podium at the end of a Grand Prix....

Like in Mario Kart 64, they have your character watch the ceremony, then they drive off. A bomb then follows them and blows them up, while the game tells you "What a Pity! You placed ____, maybe next time!" I honestly think this one is very dark, especially with how the music stops before the bomb hits your character.

Super Circuit's is similar, except instead of a bomb, your character gets crushed by the podium and the game says "Too bad!" While it's also shorter than Mario Kart 64's, i think it's also kinda dark for a mario game to just crush you because you didn’t win lol

Luckily the newer games don't do this anymore, but I think it would be interesting if they brought this back for Mario Kart 9 but I highly doubt it.

I got into playing Ace Attorney and its become my favortte franchise. I wasn't too keen on Dual Destines but my favorites so far are Trials and Tribulations, and Investagations 2. I'm on the last game on the Apollo Justice Trilogy which is Sprite of Justice and once I'm done with this I will try out the Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. Just everything about this is just great!

The eerieville foreground/background in Pocket Camp and Lucky’s fortune cookie reminds me of Don’t Starve’s art a little.

Not a whole lot, but enough to see a little bit of similarity. I remember when I first saw Lucky’s fortune cookie years back, I immediately thought of Don’t Starve.

I kinda miss that game but I really was terrible at surviving.

I really don’t get why Mega Man games, the numbered classic ones specifically, have a reputation of being super hard. They’re really not. The first one is, Mega Man and Bass is, and 9 is, but those are it (and besides, that’s only because the first one is unpolished, the second one was only released in Japan initially so they went hardcore, and the last one was hard on purpose because it’s a throwback game and people say the older games were hard, so they made the game brutally difficult to pay homage). I think they all have hard parts, and I have definitely died in stages and to some bosses multiple times, but it’s not as bad as people say. 3 and 2 especially, since I see a lot of people complain about those but I found 4 a lot more challenging than either, even though it introduced the charge shot that people act like kills all difficulty in the games. 3’s final stages were really pathetic in my opinion. Maybe I’m just used to it at this point but I think it’s way overblown or maybe I’m just him idk

I don’t have an issue with it though. 3 is still one of my favorites along with 4 and 7. I haven’t played 11 yet, so maybe that game is harder.

I've been slacking a bit with the Lucky You event in Dreamlight Valley. I decided I want two "End of the Rainbow" Cauldrons so I can put them together to make a full rainbow, but I still need six more four-leaf clovers. You can make four-leaf clovers using three-leaf clovers and dreamlight, but I'd like to save my dreamlight if possible. I should be okay though as long as I remember to check every few hours today. I think the cauldrons could look cute paired with the Cloud Cottage~
