I made a decision a while ago, regarding where I wanted my NH experience to take me and I'd love to hear of anyone else who plays the same.

I decided that I'm not going to have dreamies.

Back when I first played ACNL, I was not in any online communities and the idea of dreamies wasn't something that crossed my mind. Then I joined TBT and my eyes were opened. I learned a lot about gameplay, trading an aesthetics. I'm very grateful and I still love it here, even if I only pop in occasionally.

But this time I figured, given that plotting is no longer an issue, I'm going to forget about "dreamies" and just let my island community change organically. I want to meet as many islanders as possible and although it's sad when someone moves out, there are many more new friends out there :D

Most, if not all of my current villagers are in the lowest two tiers here. But they are all so quirky and adorable in their own way and I'm glad that I gave them a chance.

Does anyone else play like this?

I think that's awesome :) sticking with the old way, eh? I don't have any "dreamies" per se, but I do only really take in villagers that I am fond of. I think I'd be open to having a random villager in the future though!

Kinda, I have dreamies that I want in my village eventually, but I highly dislike the amiibo "support" I find it incredibly bland when everyone have the same 10 villagers like in New Leaf after the update, and it's exciting to find villagers you like in the camp, or on tours, I don't want my village to be static either, eventually I'll have a village of dreamies sure, but not for a long while.

Yeah im playing with no dreamies in mind :) Easier to rotate villagers and not feel stressed about "oh no! I gotta make sure they dont move!" Plus it gives me something new every time and not just stuck with the same 10 villagers... Cause i get tired of the same 10 after a while. (Not to mention the cost of obtaining my dreamies xD)

A town or island without Whitney is not a real town!

i’ve never really had dreamies, except for biskit, who was my favorite since i was a kid. i like to become friends with every villager so i don’t really mind (though them being super cute has a bonus lol)

I used to play like this for a bit in new leaf when I first got it. I loved pretty much all my villagers because I got fairly lucky in the sense that I didn't get any hideous ones.
I got nl in september of 2013 and as you can tell by my join date on here, I joined here pretty soon after that specifically because Kiki left. I was heartbroken and looked up if there was a way to get her back. fastforward to today because I got into villager trading so much, it's ingrained into me to immediately put a price on a villager as soon as I meet them. I would love to shake that habit to be honest. much more natural that way.

but alas, I'm doing a theme for my island so I want specific villagers to uphold that theme. strong respec to anyone who doesnt go after particular villagers though, i dont know how you do it man. some villagers are just so unbearably neat

I feel your decision. I decided that I’m going to leave one or two spots open to random villagers so there’s always a sense of surprise and just refreshing conversation. Having 8 dreamies and 2 potential randoms, new friends, or something seems refreshing. I never knew about much of anything before I joined ACC. I was on ACC first and came here, and learned a lot. I hope you enjoy the game more this way!

I decided to do the same thing! At least... mostly :p All my villagers are random except for Ankha. Got her through the amiibo way, but I partly did that to see how that system would work. Getting used to my current gang and wouldn't have it any other way ;) However I will have the same mentality when they want to move out; and just let them go and get another rando.

I'm just letting new villagers move in and I'll take what I get. If there's anyone I love that comes in I'll keep them, but I want to meet as many as I can this time around.

Yes I'm doing the same thing, and it's so ironic that by playing without resetting or TT or anything I nnaturally got some of my favs in my town. Stitches, Francine, Bianca, and Marshal. Only one I got via amiibo Gayle.

I'm playing similarly, though I do want to eventually get a couple permanent residents that you could consider dreamies. Namely Skye, Wolfgang and Audie.

I feel you on this! For me, there are 3 of the new villagers I want super badly and if I get them they're going to stay since they have no existing amiibo cards, and a couple my current villagers will stay for at least a good long while since I love them and don't have their cards, but other than that I'm trying to let some of my villagers move away when they want so I can meet new ones and I really just wanna wait a while before I worry about having a bunch of permanent villagers who are never allowed to leave. There are just so many adorable ones I'd like to hang out with on my island and sadly I can only have 10 of them at a time!

tbh after getting all my dreamies in New Leaf, I started to somehow get bored of my town (after a long while) but then I couldn't really let them move out and have new ones move in since I've already laid out my town and paths so well and plot resetting them to very specific spots is just too much work

buuut since plotting isn't an issue anymore, I plan to change villagers from time to time to be able to experience fresh faces too :) but yeah gonna keep ultimate favorites though, if ever I'm lucky enough to get them lol

Yep! I'm playing this way too. Even though I refused to let Poppy move out, but that is because I'm working on getting three stars to finish up Project K. I find it more fun to have my town actually be a town with villagers that move out and in. The only villager I would consider having on my island permanently would be Velma which is why I'm not amiiboing her in right away.

Yeah that's how i play too! Obviously I have villagers that i like and dislike but I kinda just let them move in and out as they please. I always used to stress when I first joined online forums because everybody else had 'dreamies' and I just didn't, but it's a lot more fun getting to interact with different villagers rather than than choosing 10 and sticking with them the whole game. (also I never understood how people could pick only 10 and stick with it, my commitment issues could never)

I don't have dreamies but it's more out of laziness and the fact that it feels a lot harder to get the villagers you want in this game thanks to the autosave, also the economy is dumb right now

I would love Raymond or Coco but realistically it won't happen lol

Same. After today I pretty much decided to keep Monty now, even if he isn’t one of my Dreamies. I gave him a Pile or Cherry Blossom Pedals, because I thought it would look nice in his home. He was so happy that he gave me 2300 Bells, which was the highest amount of Bells I ever received from any Villager in this Game yet. I was curious and made another one and Timmy and Tommy only gave me 2000 for it, which means he gave me 300 Extra. Otherwise I only got 100 - 500 Bells most of the time, whenever I gifted some items. :giggle:

Maybe because he really liked it?

Anyway, this just shows that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. I really like this Monkey now.

Looks like i have to be friendly to Quillson now... Sigh ...
Maybe we can work it out somehow. Curse you, feelings! 😡
At least as long as he decides to move out.

As of now, pretty much any villager above what I rank is "you're ok" is ok to stay for awhile. I'll concentrate on dreamies in the future once I have a more complete island.

I decided i am gonna do something similar, too! I am going to rotate my villagers occasionly and maybe keep two or three permanent.
That way i can see which villagers i come to love so i can get their amiibo cards in case i miss them in the future and want them back.
