Playing without dreamies...

I'm scanning in 2 amiibo for the time being and keeping Audie since I got her on an island tour. Otherwise I'm gonna try to rotate my villagers out until my "endgame" where i scan all my dreamies in and essentially finish the game. But that wont be for a while!

right now i have one non-dreamy slot to rotate villagers... i'm thinking of just dropping tad since jocks aren't my fav to start with... my bf plans to play more along the lines of you though! i think everyone should play an ac game like that at least once tho haha

I get what you're saying.
I still have my list of dreamies but this time around I want to take more time actually acquiring them.
I have some amiibo cards for my dreamies too but I want to hold off inviting them just yet.
Also, so far, I fell in love with some villagers I've never previously encountered - Boyd, Norma... and Sherb - the new goat.
Not sure if they're "dreamie" material yet (I'm also well aware that Boyd and Norma are not very popular) but I'll be very reluctant to let them go if it all.
However; someone that I really want on my island as soon as possible is Zucker. I'm just so attached to him so my island kind of feels empty without him if that makes any sense.
Anyone else I can do with at this point.

I actually love Tad.
Would love to have him if any of my villagers decide to move (I have 10 and none have told me that they're moving so far).
I don't TT though.

I'm the opposite. I bought all my favorite villager's amiibo cards and scanned them all in.

I went into the game just expecting to take whoever came and got lucky and got Alice on an island who was my first villager from wild world and the closest I have to a ‘dreamy’. That being said I do want one of the new ones.

From what I understand even with max villagers you can have campsite visits and can swap a random villager for them. apparently you can save and reset if you don’t want to risk a certain villager being traded.

edit: also I never lets villager leave until I have there photo.

I don't care for dreamies, only playing the game with only the favorites that I already know takes away the fun of meeting and getting to know new residents. I did adopt Katt since she's my absolute favorite, but every other villager I found on my own and have already become attached to. Hornsby and Jacques are standouts!

I’m doing the same although I do have dreamies!

but I can’t even get anyone to even move out, so it’s a struggle lol

I think this could be a really fun and refreshing way of experiencing the game. I'd be too tempted to keep certain villagers once they came to my town, however, so I commend you for doing this

My only real dreamy at this point is Audie, but even without her I still love most all of the villagers on my island. A lot of them I intend to permanently keep, (lily, apollo, dom, skye, and Bangle [a hard maybe on Bob]) and the others will just be rotated naturally until I come across more I want there permanently. I focused way too hard only collecting my ultimate favs in New Leaf, I'd rather not do that with this game.

i don't think i'm gonna be doing this dreamie thing in new horizons. i've been getting random villagers and i really like getting to know them.

like, villagers i would never get because they are "low tier" are actually pretty cool and funny. and cute!

i think i'm gonna kinda rotate villagers a lot? let them come and go. maybe i'll keep some that i really like and get attached to.

honestly it's so bland to have the same 10 villagers as everybody else. i know because in new leaf i used to have all the popular villagers and i didn't like them that much?

i've been building way stronger bonds and friendship with ~unpopular villagers to when i used to have only tier 1 villagers

This is like I've been playing every AC game lol

Obviously, I would like to find some specific villagers, but I won't participate in any kind of "villager treasure hunt".

Kinda, right now getting certain villagers isn't my top priority so I'm kind of just accepting any villager that moves in. Luckily I actually like all of the villagers in my town but at a certain point I do wanna try and obtain Joey and Pudge. :)

I have half dreamies and half randos so I can see some familiar faces but then also experience some new ones.

I made a decision a while ago, regarding where I wanted my NH experience to take me and I'd love to hear of anyone else who plays the same.

I decided that I'm not going to have dreamies.

Back when I first played ACNL, I was not in any online communities and the idea of dreamies wasn't something that crossed my mind. Then I joined TBT and my eyes were opened. I learned a lot about gameplay, trading an aesthetics. I'm very grateful and I still love it here, even if I only pop in occasionally.

But this time I figured, given that plotting is no longer an issue, I'm going to forget about "dreamies" and just let my island community change organically. I want to meet as many islanders as possible and although it's sad when someone moves out, there are many more new friends out there :D

Most, if not all of my current villagers are in the lowest two tiers here. But they are all so quirky and adorable in their own way and I'm glad that I gave them a chance.

Does anyone else play like this?
Yes I am trying to be this way about everything. Not going to lie, the one villager I'll never stop wanting is Angus and I just can't help that haha! But as far trading goes or other villagers, I've got a very go with the flow mentality. Truth be told I only have about 1 hour to play this game per day Monday-Friday, so I can't afford to be picky...and I'm at peace with that! I know I will probably play this game for a long time so whenever stuff happens, it happens.

Having dreamies is relative. People want to have 10 villagers they like, if you decide to like the 10 villagers you end up having they're your island dreamies as well. For me, there are like 30 villagers that I really like and I want 10 of them to be my island residents. I don't care which 10, I just want my island to be filled with villagers that I love. Once I get my "bad" villagers out I'll treat all villagers the same, but I'll only say no to my favorites moving out.

I do have a dreamies list, but honestly getting them all isn't a priority of mine for a long while. I don't have the amiibo cards of everyone, just the three I wanted the most (Pinky, Fang and Poppy). Even then, beyond those 3 my dreamies list is more of a 'I'd be happy if you came to my town but I won't stress over getting you'.
The game is only 2 weeks old. There's plenty of time to get dreamies. As it is, I've come to love villagers I don't think I would have given a chance such as Nana and Mac. I'm happy to experiment with other villagers to see if I come to love anyone else.

This is the first time I'm playing Animal Crossing with "dreamies" in mind, so not this time. I'm still really enjoying the process of meeting other villagers in the process- I see it as a long-term goal. I normally wouldn't play the game like this, but the increased focus on customization in this installment really rallied my inspiration, and I eventually decided I wanted to have some of my favorite villagers along to share it with me.

I can't really relate. I had an idea going in who I'd like to find and who I'd like to bring with me from New Leaf. I decided before I got the game that 5 would be open spots where I'd find villagers/try villagers out. And instead I will only have one spot open and revolving with new people when that person asks to move out (currently Erik), I'm perfectly content keeping around 9 static villagers who will always be with me. Granted that may change in the future or I may decide to swap out a few but I actually like the idea of being able to have villagers who I don't hate/actively ignore. Although I did find a majority of my villagers through the island and everyone other than Lobo, Diana, and Julian (my amiibo villagers) were someone I didn't really have in mind before the game began (other than Sherb, I knew I'd hunt him down eventually).

Similar. I obtained all dreamies in NL and never let anyone move out so that spoiled the game for me. I got so bored. Going into NH, I decided that I’ll leave 2-3 spots in my island for rotation purposes. I also am leaving it up to chance when I acquire any of my 7 essential villagers. I don’t need to get them all at once but purely depending on my RNG luck. So far, the genuine feelings brought about by finding them randomly in islands and campsite have been extremely satisfying to me. :)

I am kinda doing something like that. I am trying not have the same Villagers I had in NL (with the exception of one or two) so the game feels different and not just like New Leaf. I mean I do have some villagers that I like but I'm like open to new ones as well.
