I. Going to preorder for GameStop and pick it up at the midnight release
But since my GameStop does ?midnight releases? that are lined up with East Coast time, I get it at9pm the day before
I preordered mine from Best Buy. I don’t have time to go to a physical store on release day, but I want a physical copy, so it seemed like the best option. Hopefully it’ll arrive on time, unlike my Amazon ACNL preorder back in 2013. (There’s a reason why I stopped preordering games from Amazon.)
My one concern is that I think I’m going to be away that weekend. I shipped the game to my destination, as I wasn’t sure when it would arrive and didn’t want to miss it when leaving for the weekend. But if I can’t travel for some reason (e.g., coronavirus lockdowns or something), I’ll be frustrated. If things suddenly get to that point, though, buying a physical copy anywhere on release day may not be feasible.
I pre-ordered from Amazon. I prefer cartridge copies to digital.
For some reason, none of the pre-order bonuses appeal to me. I just want the game itself.
I know that I won't be the first to get it, since Amazon isn't noted for its rapid release date deliveries. I may have to wait a few hours longer, or maybe a whole day longer like what happened to me when I pre-ordered ACNL from them. But when it arrives, I'll be so happy.
I'll preorder it digitally with the Switch online vouchers a bit closer to release. I haven't bought them yet and they can only be used for one year and as we don't know what else Nintendo will release this year, I'm holding the purchase back a little more.
