curiously...

Did anybody attend school prom? Or maybe plans to do so. It's very special for some.

I didn't. I was very busy doing my own things. :< An internship program + club exhausted me.

Instead of going, I think I just played video games at home that night and enjoyed the free time. My friend had been over recently and we were messing with a hacked PS2.

Our building was also closed during senior prom. It was hosted in another school for those who wanted to attend.

I didn't attend prom. I had no interest at all in going. I also don't understand why it's such a big deal. Like, why force your child to go to prom because they'll regret it when they are older? I don't regret not going at all. In fact, I'm glad I never went.

I don't think I will when I enter senior year. My social life in the real world is already nonexistent and I'll be overwhelmed by how loud it could be anyway.

Edit: I'm honestly surprised to see a lot of people here say they didn't go... Prom is such a big deal so I was expecting people not going to be the odd one out.

nope! my friends decided to organize a dinner for my birthday instead of going to prom, which we didn't really want to go to anyways. although, that was all for nothing because everyone had to pull out last minute, which was quite unfortunate and made me very sad. oh well.

i don't have any qualms about not going. to be entirely honest, getting dressed up and eating in fancy getups with my friends was the only reason i wanted to go at all, not the dancing in a overcrowded room with sweaty (and drunk) teenagers part haha.

Seeing this thread makes me feel a little better about never going to any of them. I went to a dance by myself in middle school and it was so noisy and awkward.

I had a lot of bad gossip spread about me in high school so I doubt I could’ve ever convinced anyone to go with me other than a certain friend I had. If she went with me though she’d probably would’ve gotten a ton of abuse from other kids for it. She was being gossiped about for just hanging out with me.

I didn’t go either, didn’t really have anyone to go with 🥲

my senior prom is in a few days and i actually am going. i wasn't planning on going until a boy im friends with asked me to go with him over text, i was in the middle of a sams club and almost fell to my knees because 1. he's asking me and 2. neither of us are the type to go to this type of event. seems like it's going to fun though, him and i are both looking forward to it.

Where I live they call it grad banquet but yes I went to mine. I wore a big rainbow and yellow dress. We rented a limo and everything so there was no way I was gonna miss it.

My school didn't have prom. It was just me and one other person in my class for one and the school was odd and believed dances were bad. 🙄

No, I went to a private school and they stopped having prom a year before we were supposed to have it. I wouldn't have attended it either way though.

i went to mine! my group of friends were split on those who wanted to go and those who didn't, but we had a really good time and ended up meeting with those who didn't attend at a laser tag venue that we booked haha

I didn’t get to go to prom because it would have been in may 2020, which is sad but I still got to go to homecoming with my now boyfriend as well as some other dances with him so I’ve won in life ^^

I didn’t go to my junior or senior prom because I was busy with other things during those times. I think during my junior prom I had a state competition for mock trial. (I can’t remember if we won or placed or not, but I remember it was worth it to go!) I think for my senior prom after I hadn’t gone to my junior prom I kind of felt like, it didn’t really matter as much as people made it sounded like it mattered.
Now I did go to other “proms“ - in college and in medical school and now I’m going to one in a couple of weeks for work. It’s technically called our medical center Physicians Gala, but everyone colloquially calls it the prom. I feel like these were different because I didn’t really know everybody in my high school, but I know/knew a lot of the people in the other environments. Not that I wasn’t social in high school, but I had a smaller group of close friends and I don’t think everyone in high school is there for a common reason other than they make you go to school. So I think it made a lot more emotional sense to attend the social gatherings when you’re with a group of people who you identify with strongly.

I did go to my high school grad night, and I’ve been to a few high school reunions. I thought those were way more fun than what I imagine prom to be.

No, we did not have "prom night". From the way it is portrayed in TV and in film I think its very toxic. I don't really associate with many people from my secondary school anymore so I don't know if I would end up with anyone so the concept of prom night seems sort of silly and toxic because teens will be teens. As a gay person, I would've still been in the closest until after secondary, well, at least where I live, so I doubt I would've gone to one even if it was available.

I wasn't really bothered about going to my prom, but my Mum was really looking forward shopping with me for dresses, so I did. I should note she never forced me into going. I'm glad I did as my then boyfriend and I had a good time. We ended up with helium balloons after it! It was a fun night, and have of me wishes I could go back in time and go again.

i didn’t. i wasnt on good terms with my friend group at the time so i didnt have anyone to go with, but i saved that money and put some towards a concert instead

i didn't have a prom, i was in a catch-up program for most of highschool since i was hospitalized and bedridden for a couple months in my first year and most of my profs were no help at all.

that being said i don't think i would have gone anyways, i wasn't a fan of parties

Never been, but honestly I don't think I'm missing out on much anyway.

yea, had prom both junior and senior year and i attended both. needless to say uh both were kinda messy in terms of my prom dates 💀 junior year prom date was my ex who broke up w me a week before prom, we were in awkward terms so everything was just.... weird? senior year prom i also went with an ex, it was just genuinely complicated. anyway the saving grace were my friends, they planned the table and seating arrangement for me for both years and im so thankful i just got to be with them. senior year especially, i remember crying in the bathroom and i had a close friend accompany me. we're still really good friends until now and i love her lots.

more than anything, i think prom was just an event that me and my HS friends like talking about from time to time. it was really stupid and messy but at least for the most part we get to laugh about it. sometimes we talk about wanting to go to a prom now that we're older and uh less stupid and immature LMAO
