Random thoughts thread. (New Horizons)

Sometimes, looking at the fish that have been cooked in ACNH would make you feel bad for killing the fish. You can literally see a dead sea bass and a dead red snapper when you cook them.

Fish are animals too. You’re killing animals in Animal Crossing.

What if the next game had frog legs and calamari as some foods to cook based on what you catch in the waters? And then you give the frog legs to villagers like Lily and Tad, or the calamari to villagers like Octavian.

It would be even more creepy when fishing in the pond that you accidentally fish up one of the frog villagers. All they were doing is bathing...

This is something that I had in my head for ages now:

Eight players (I guess) and 10 villagers on our islands.
I always thought that, what if Nintendo have gave us 17 villagers but only if you're the only human who lives on the island.
The amount of villagers you can have decreases if you add multiple characters to your game.

Also, the mods probably need to change the name of this thread so it won't confuse anyone else in the future, just in case.

I want a good plush of a villager from Etsy. Not sure who I'd want first, as there are really good ones that are expensive, so I'd only get one. Right now, I'm thinking of Bob, Punchy, Lopez or Dotty (yes, I like her that much). Who shall I go with...

I've been neglecting my game. I decided to switch out a few villagers since I have their amiibos. I'm going to switch Cheri for Ketchup and Tybalt for Hamlet. I'm going to have two ducks on my island (Miranda and Ketchup) but I'm beyond caring at this point.

It feels like I’m never going to finish my entry for the TBT Halloween event. Haha. I keep adding more decorations.

Well, if there’s a silver lining to this then it must be that I’m finally padding up some of the empty spots on my plaza.

You’re killing animals in Animal Crossing.

You've been able to step on and kill cockroaches since the first game on Gamecube. You see their little ghosts float away and everything.

And we've been killing fish since the first game, too, where you'd hand fish to Wendell, who would devour them whole right in front of you.

Also the games know quite well how weird it is for some of the animals to be people and some of the animals to be just animals. There's potential for amusing moments like these in the various games throughout the series:

Octavian is shocked at octopus fishing.jpg

And the hamster cage item when hamsters are also villagers, I don't have a good picture of that on-hand.

I need to take more favorite villager headshots. They are completely necessary for art reasons. Maybe I should go for something like this next, but photoshop it so the heads are closer together:

Kind of contemplating kicking Whitney off of my island. I really like her, and consider her to be my second favourite wolf, but sometimes it doesn't feel like she fits with the lore of my island. I really like writing interactions between my villagers and I don't think Whitney is really close with any of the others. Perhaps it's a silly reasoning to some people, but I'm definitely more about story and lore for my island over pretty-looking villagers lol. I also had Whitney in my ACNL town so she doesn't necessarily need to be in this game one as well (would jsut write her off as moving away ksfkf). I guess my only issue is that I'm not sure who I'd replace her with... She's my only snooty so I'd want another to replace her but no one really comes to mind as being a fit.

What annoys me a little when I leave my island to visit a mystery island or someone else is the incessant dialogue. You say that you want to use the internet, this stupid dodo asks you if you are sure and that you want to use the internet. You leave with a nmt, he asks you if you are ready to leave. You open your doors, he warns you ten times that you are going to let strangers in. It's okay, I KNOW.

It’s alright for Orville to tell you these things for the first time, but after that, his dialogue should’ve been minimal. Like, yes, I am 100% sure that I want to go to Harv’s Island; you don’t need to double check every single time and then have me sit through three more dialogue boxes. At least Wilbur isn’t as annoying when you talk to him…

More online today. Been on someone’s island, people are joining too. I’m complaining but it’s so slow! More than one minute per person to come. I don’t care knowing they are coming and when they are in the plane. Same for people leaving. Why so many cinematics?

I restarted my island of Rainbow.

Again, I went to look at the villager colors to try to do that 'rainbow' colors and realized that I was overthinking this, adding villagers based on their coloring to match the rainbow colors instead of villagers I actually want to live on my island. And this is the reason I don't do themed islands. Too stressful for me and I overthink it so I'm naming my new island Merveille (pronounced 'more-vey), which is French for 'marvel' and have villagers on my island I actually want, not just because of their coloring.

And so far, the villagers I want for my new island are

Bob, Ketchup, and Bones. Don't know who else yet but that's the fun of it.

I decided that since my island name is a French name, I decide that Cousteau will also be a villager on my island since he's a French frog. XD That's hilarious.

No matter how many times I restart my island I am always interested on the many ways I can customize it. Thats the charm of this game.

It's time to start my island again. Yes, again. It only lasted a week. Fortunately, I have two consoles (well three) and I will be able to keep my hybrids and certain items. I don't know... it bothers me to use Japanese terms that are not written in characters (kanji etc...). And then, I came across a video of a Chinese game (by chance) and I don't understand much but I have a complete crush on a character named Wen Siyou. It makes me think of my favorite series that I should continue with my boyfriend, and it inspires me for a new island as a result. Goodbye technology, goodbye the cities I wanted to create, the beautiful drink dispensers, the pedestrian crossings! I'm going to go with something completely natural based on Chinese wuxia series. I completely redid my list of villagers, I found a name for my first character (guess which one) but not yet for my town. Yudi (raindrop), Lanling or Menghuan dao (Neverland)? I do not know yet. I keep looking. It's late, I'm going to bed soon, I'll start again tomorrow morning. I want Rory as the first villager. I've never come across him yet, I wonder if he exists. He is typically Asian, typically Chinese. I'm excited. I'm entering a world I know and love but not yet in Animal Crossing.

I definitely agree that if you're a person that likes to decorate and customize, then this game will have a high amount of replayability because of its simplicity. Most of the other town or house building games like The Sims or Cities: Skylines can get very complex with their options, and is why I only come back to those games occasionally. I come back to New Horizons the most because once I start something, I know that I'll get it done in a faster amount of time (with time travelling, of course) and have it look great in the end.

Somewhat related, but I also randomly play and get bored of Minecraft as I almost never play it in survival mode, but rather creative mode. When I played it on my PS3 long ago, the world size was limited, and I actually liked it like that as I could focus on one area and move on to the next without getting lost, and the world borders naturally ended with an ocean (doing it now results in a much smaller playing space and unnatural borders). As much as I love the possibilities of an endless world with multiple towns and cities connected by roads and highways, I tend to not know where to start, and end up quitting altogether because flattening land is a chore sometimes. If I had more time to do that, I would probably have something going by now.

I am wondering if I will ever find the perfect island. I’ve been resetting for one week straight, entire days while watching movies and had no luck. I know it’s possible, I know it but how long will it take..

Me shaking trees with a net: no wasps

The second I start chopping trees: wasps
Nook Miles+ goal requests to catch a bagworm
  • Me shaking trees: no bagworm
  • Me shaking every single tree on my island: no bagworm
  • Me shaking trees on mystery islands: no bagworm
  • Me shaking trees on a Kapp'n island: no bagworm
  • Me shaking a completely random tree on accident without trying to catch anything: finds bagworm

It's nearly impossible to get exactly what you want. At that point, you'd have to hack into the game, and that gets iffy. Of course, I never attempted such thing myself, but I suppose once the game gets even older - and the next console has already hit shelves - Nintendo will stop caring so much.
