want to preface that i don't count "earth day" as an event, since we didn't really do anything iirc other than a few special NM tasks.
1. stamp rally/NYE's
although they were both small/short events, they had more charm than all the others. stamp rally also had the added bonus of being something new. the plaques were cute and i enjoyed having a reason to go around and actually explore/admire my museum again, since it's designed so beautifully in this game. NYE's was just super cute overall with the music and the villagers waving their glowsticks in sync during the last ten seconds.
2. may day
i like mazes, what can i say? rover is also one of my favorite NPCs, and i loved his briefcase item in NL so i was delighted to get it back in this. it was simple but fun. more mazes would've been great but i can imagine people complaining about it, especially if they're not particularly good at them, so the one is fine.
3. bunny day
an unpopular opinion, i'm sure, but i enjoyed having so much to do. it was flawed, yes. the balloons were too frequent, the eggs in the water were a nuisance even after being patched, and it ran for too long, but i liked having so many aspects of island life + AC in general being connected. i always had fun hunting for eggs in NL, and it was the same here, even if i did get it all done long before the two weeks were over. my only real complaint is that the furniture was ugly compared to NL's and i haven't once utilized any of it. not gonna lie, my enjoyment for this event specifically could be largely attributed to my enjoyment of the game as a whole since it happened right after release.
4. fireworks festival
mostly for the prizes, if i'm being honest. it's a shame i don't get any use out of them now though, since they made it so tripping is guaranteed only if you're holding a balloon. (unless it's been patched out?) whoever made that decision is the worst, frankly. just let me run with balloons. the novelty always wears off after the first week for me, since it's just the same each time, but it was initially fun nonetheless.
5. harvest festival
only reason it ranks higher than halloween/toy day is because the furniture is cuter and i'm actually getting some use out of it. i still preferred NL's version of this event, with the added ingredients (butter, vinegar, sugar etc.), and i really don't know what the point was in having us "make" every dish twice -- once for the main ingredients, once for the secret ingredient. i'm lowkey a fan of fetch quests, so that probably helped.
6. toy day
beats halloween largely because it was more similar to its NL-equivalent and didn't take as long. would've ranked third if it had a) let me keep the santa sack and b) included the villager clues during the rest of december.
7. halloween
downgrade from NL imo. felt way too simplified, and i didn't feel like i was earning any of the rewards. should've kept the "certain masks scare certain villagers more" mechanic in.
8. wedding season
i hated this event. loathed it, even. decorating is easily my least favorite aspect of this game, and it didn't help that this was repetitive as sin. literally just the same task day in, day out, and you had to participate at least several times if you wanted to get at least one of every item, including the decorative plate.
