Ranking the Events from 2020 from BEST to WORST

I find it crazy how much we seem to agree, from that "discount NL" thread, to here. I 100% agree with your ranking and rationale.

The May Day maze was actually really fun. At first, I was hoping that it was a sign of thing to come. It felt a bit like a Tortimer Island minigame in a way, and I loved that! Sadly, no more unique islands came.. Bunny Day also wasn't as bad as some people made it out to be. Yeah, the furniture is trash - but the egg collecting all over was kinda fun.

can't say i'm surprised to see bunny day ranking so low, if not bottom, for everyone here, just disappointed. it's actually a really fun event, just poorly executed in this game. i don't think it helped that diving (and therefore underwater eggs) wasn't present at the time either; my only hope is that they alter the event to include it this year, but i'm not holding my breath. i can totally understand the dislike because, again, it did have its flaws, but i tried to overlook them while ranking because they were less event flaws and more dev flaws? by which i mean if the spawn rates were adjusted, and the event window shortened, i don't think people would've disliked it as much. zipper gets a bad rap as an NPC/mascot, and i personally find him more relatable than creepy, so there's that too.

festivale could easily be top three if it follows its NL structure, but we'll have to see how they change it for NH because i have no doubt they will and not necessarily for the better (at least in my eyes) given their current track record. i'm almost dreading them adding in april fools for the same reason; i can already imagine them simplifying it by having blanca replicate the villagers perfectly bar one super obvious detail, making the event even easier and quicker than it was in NL.

i too thought may day was foreshadowing what was to come in a summer update, with a similar maze mini-game being introduced alongside all the others on tortimer island. sadly it wan't meant to be. i want to say maybe this year but adding such a core multiplayer mechanic, when this game seems deadset on forcing multiplayer, over a year in and when the fanbase has dwindled somewhat significantly just strikes me as too little too late.

Bunny Day was the only one I missed, and the only one I think I would have enjoyed. :)

Each list in alphabetical order:

Good
International Museum Day
May Day
New Year's Eve

Okay
Fireworks Festival
Halloween
Nature Day
Toy Day
Turkey Day
Wedding Season

Nope
Bunny Day

If we want to count the Fishing Tournaments and Bug Offs, I'd list them in Nope. They were tedious, at best. The other seasonal stuff like Cherry Blossom, Mushrooming, Maple Leaf, and Festive would be listed in Okay—mostly because of how annoying it is to grab the DIY recipes. I like what the developers created to collect.

Halloween, Toy Day, Nature Day with Rover, Turkey Day, New Years, Fireworks, Stamp Rally, Wedding Season, Bunny Day.

Counting down!

9. Bunny Day - This one seems to be everybody's most hated. Let's be real. That rabbit is just ridiculous and needs to disappear forever. And I'm sure we can all remember just how outrageous the spawn rate was for the eggs in the beginning. Even when they tried to fix it, it was still too high in my opinion. I don't like the furniture that much either. Like... how do you even decorate your island with that stuff? No thanks.

8. Stamp Rally (Museum Celebration) - I don't know, I just didn't really care for this. Sure, it was an activity to do, but... the rewards from it were very meh. Thankfully you could have ignored it if you wanted to, so the lack of an insane mascot and all that junk definitely keeps it at least a bit better than Bunny Day.

7. Earth Day - Not much to this one. It was just nice having those Nook Miles Tickets opportunities. Other than that... another whatever one. I kind of wonder if this and the Stamp Rally should even really count.

6. August Firework Season - Now this is where things just get way better. While this isn't a terrible event, I do have to admit that I was a little annoyed that yet another day of the week was being sucked up by an event, which got in the way of being able to get villagers to ping you to move off of the island. But that's really the only downside to this event, and it's only a downside for people who look forward to getting new villagers, like me. It was pretty cool having fireworks though. And I definitely liked that you could have custom pattern fireworks. This was a huge plus for the summer - and I imagine it made winter a little more fun for those in the southern hemisphere.

5. Birthdays - There's no hiding it. I love birthdays. Maybe this doesn't really count as an "event" as they can happen any day of the year, but I really feel like Nintendo did an awesome job with birthdays in this game. They're not a huge time sucker, but can be a lot of fun. It's just nice being able to celebrate our friends' birthdays!

4. Turkey Day - Maybe it's surprising to some people that I have this up there, even beating out birthdays, but to be honest I really liked this event. It could have been because I was stuck home all day thanks to that lovely pandemic that's done so much to everybody's plans this year. But it just seemed really cute, and it took up what I felt was the perfect amount of time. And I actually really liked all of the furniture DIY stuff that came from this. It's really cool that it can be customized to be more spring like! I think it'll make for some good decor in my main room in March, so that'll be awesome.

3. New Year's - I worked and didn't get out until after 6, but I still had enough time to enjoy this event. Granted, I was dumb, played around 8 for like an hour, then did other things until ten minutes before midnight. So I was only on to see the countdown and stuff from then, but it was still really cute and fun. I loved how we all waved our little glowsticks, and popped some poppers and I took some pictures, and yeah it was just super nice. Plus I like that we have a particular music piece playing all day New Years Day! It was pretty nice.

2. Toy Day - While I was a little disappointed with this, because of how little time it took, it was still cute. And I could have done more than I did if I'm being honest. I didn't really exchange gifts with my villagers, which was stupid on my part. I just gave them the gifts from the magic sack that Jingle gave. So yeah, I thought that it was too "quick" of an event, and I'm still bitter that recipes and stuff didn't start until the 15th, but there's nothing you can really do about that. I'll be keeping all of my festive stuff in my storage because of the fact that you can't start crafting it until what I feel is very late in December. I need to be able to get festive stuff out right away next Christmas time!

1. Halloween - As this is my favorite in real life, it should be no surprise that it was my favorite in AC as well. It definitely helped that the update made it so we could start crafting things in early October. This is why I actually sold all of my Spooky stuff. We can actually craft it at any time we want to, given that we can grow the pumpkins anytime we want to. And the day itself? Loved it. Looooooved it. It didn't take too long to get everything, but that was okay. The music and the feeling, the way that the villagers interacted with each other and you, it really was more than I could have ever hoped for. So yes, I am definitely very VERY happy with the Halloween event.

Sadly I did not participate in the May Day event or the Wedding Season things. I just forgot to use my ticket for the May Day island, so I'll be looking forward to doing that this May. And then during the wedding season I just wasn't playing the game hardly at all. Between mid May until the summer update that added diving I would go weeks without playing. Then diving came along and I started doing more in terms of getting my island decorated. Now I keep up on my island's decor to go with the season and things going on, which is one of the things that now keeps me hooked.

Overall, I would give this game an A for events during its launch year. Now here's to looking forward to what they bring us in 2021. January and February will be all new, and then after that... what will they do? How will they keep things feeling fresh after March? Are they going to change some things with tweaks and stuff? Will May Day be different? Maybe the fireworks shows will end up being less frequent, or spread out between a couple of months. I don't know, but I am very excited to see how things go this year in New Horizons.

1. Turkey Day - some people disliked it but for me, running around to get all the ingredients was fun, talking to the villagers at their homes, and I appreciated that it was a little long. All the villagers around the plaza was a cute touch, also finding out the secret ingredients
2. Halloween - I'm not a halloween person irl, and I don't like to decorate for it, so I'll probably never use the DIYs, but the event was fun to complete
3. May Day - the maze was a really good idea, fun to complete, I wish we had more stuff like that. I liked the suitcase as well
4. Fireworks Festival - it was cool mainly because of the "parties" people hosted here
5. Toy Day - too fast... Also why do they give us a bunch of toys we already had access to at nooks? A little disappointed but I love Christmas so exchanging gifts will always be cool.
6. Stamp Rally - only fun one time, nothing too special
7. Wedding Season - for me it got boring real fast

I didn't do Bunny Day this year and I'll wait for the next one to see what all the fuss is about, or Earth Day. New Year's I'll try tomorrow and report back

  1. Turkey Day - I enjoyed the mechanic of going around and helping the villagers who were cooking in their homes. I'd like to see that return as a way to do jobs for villagers vs them just asking for fish or bugs to display randomly. Also I liked being given all the DIYs as one lump reward rather than needing to get them all piecemeal with a chance of junk instead.
  2. May Day - It was short, but I really liked the puzzle island aspect. I hope we see more events like that.
  3. New Years' Eve - Again, another short but sweet event. They really pulled out all the stops graphically for the display last night and staying up/TTing to see it really paid off!
  4. Birthday - The birthday party and special K.K. concert were a really nice touch on my birthday!
  5. Wedding Season - It got repetitive after a while, but there was no pressure to do it if you didn't want to, and it was a really nice way to utilize Harv's Island. I hope we see more events like that.
  6. Fireworks Festival - I liked the mechanic of being able to make our own fireworks and see them displayed!
  7. Toy Day - It felt a little overly streamlined tbh. In a way it was nice to not need to worry about which gift went to which villager, but it also took a lot of the actually 'event' ness out of the event. Also it did the same thing as Bunny Day where the Festive DIYs overlapped with seasonal ones.
  8. Museum Day - Like Wedding Season, it wasn't really forced upon you, just something you could do if you wanted. It was also something new, so I give it credit for that.
  9. Halloween - I enjoyed the reactions and most of the Spooky Set, but when I said Turkey Day was nice for not giving the DIYs out 'piecemeal with a chance of junk instead' Halloween was the event I thought of. I'd have liked it better if there was more certainty to the rewards.
  10. Bunny Day - Yeah. There was really nothing special on Bunny Day itself. It was just a week-long material and recipe collect-a-thon that interfered with material and DIY gathering that most of us needed at the start of the game.

from best to worst + including all of the events that we’ve had so far;

1. new year’s eve
2. halloween
3. toy day
4. fireworks festival
5. turkey day
6. may day rover was absolutely the best part of this event
7. earth day
8. wedding season
9. museum stamp rally
10. bunny day

it’s been interesting seeing everyone’s lists!

I am pretty uncritical of the events, possibly because I have no prior ac experience, but this is how I would rank them - the only one I did not particularly like was wedding season.

1. Toy Day - not too long not to short, very cute villager interactions/ dialogue, love gifting my villagers, I love that I got to regift them all gifts o chose and it was fun to get toy variations in exchange, even if I didn’t get the circus looking tent like I wanted.
2. New Year’s - very cute event, I liked that Tom Nook and Isabelle were both there. Love seeing the villagers celebrate. Loved my little light stick and the way the hat variations were done.
3. Fireworks festival - love that it is a Japanese event that was represented in the game. Custom fireworks were really fun, love the villager celebrations and trying to get my villagers to all wear yukata for it. - probably actually tied with new year.
4. Halloween - lot’s of fun! Loved the reactions, loved the ‘trick’ I got of getting my face painted. Handing out candy was fun. The furniture was cute, but hard to use non seasonally.
5. Thanksgiving Day - I really liked the ingredient gathering, and watching the villagers get excited for the new dishes. I wish there could have been a sort of finale at the end where I could see my villagers eat their meal.
6. May Day - short but sweet - it was fun, I like that it was kind of a puzzle
7. Museum Stamp Rally - too long, even if you didn’t need to do it more than once
8. Wedding Season - I didn’t care about this story, it took too long, and I didn’t really care enough for any of the items to make it worth it (too weddingy) - the only redeeming feature was that I learned how to use Harv’s island and get posters.

I didn’t have the game yet for bunny day or earth day, but bunny day sounds like a drag/ tedious.

Tried not to overthink these, so kind of jumbled and choppy. I am also clearly biased toward the most recent events which are freshest in my mind.

bunny day would have been better if zipper wasn't absolutely horrifying but oh well
i was really disappointed when they removed the april fools event since that was my favourite back in NL

Not gonna rank them all since I didn't participate in New Year's Eve or Toy Day, but here's my list anyway:

1. Turkey Day: definitely the best event I did, it was fun collecting the ingredients!

2. Wedding Season: I actually liked this event, it was fun to try to use the furniture to make interesting photos.

3. Halloween: I didn't like it as much as everybody else it seems, but it was a decent event.

4. May Day: Fun little maze, it was nice!

5. Museum Day: Was okay, nothing special.

6. Earth Day: a bit pointless in and of itself, other than getting Lief.

7. Bunny Day: Awful, horrible, terrible event. Actively made the game less fun.

1. Turkey dayyy, I loved it, I loved gathering the ingredients, it was so fun
2. May day, I loved the maze and the reward, and seeing Rover, very fun!
3. New Year's eve, was a wonderful way to count down with my friend
4. Halloween, the mechanics were excellent but I didn't really collect the furniture, loved the pumpkin farming though
5. Toy day, short but sweet and adorable, I loved the multiple layers it had and that it didn't mess up the villager houses!
I didn't play wedding season or museum day and I quit midway through bunny week

Best to worst for me is...

1.) Turkey Day- Loved the different quests to get ingredients and as someone who didn’t know about secret ingredients it was exciting to find out about those. Also the items were perfect.
2.) Halloween- The lead up was great and while the event itself didnt have a ton to do, the atmosphere in the game just felt ~spooky~ and really got me into the spirit of things.
3.) May Day- I wish this had been longer with more mazes. Like others said, I thought this event was setting a precedent for what other events might be like...I’m still hoping that’s true. This was creative, fun, and original.
4.) New Years Eve- Much like Halloween, this one created the perfect atmosphere. The music was phenomenal and felt magical as it changed as the clock got closer to midnight. I wish there were more items you could get but still lots of fun.
5.) Toy Day- I enjoyed it, specifically the items you got. I wish you could’ve kept the Santa Bag and I wish they hadn’t watered it down so much from New Leaf’s Toy Day. To me it was too short.
6.) Bunny Day- I know this is near the bottom of my list, but honestly I enjoyed this event. The only thing that annoyed me were the water eggs. Also, I might be the only person who enjoyed the furniture. It reminded me of the tacky furniture from old games that you can’t really use any other time of year except to celebrate that specific holiday.
7.) Fireworks Festival- Great atmosphere but kinda over it after the second one.
8.) Wedding Season- Cool items but dragged on way too long.
9.) Museum Day- Not sure why this event lasted so long only to have the same prizes every time. Creative idea but horrible execution.
10.) Earth Day- Barely an event. We just got nature themed Nook Miles+ tasks? Not even an item for this one.

Throwing my hat in the ring:
  1. Halloween - Arguably the best event, decent furniture for us to acquire and craft, liked how you could get some of it without needing the DIYs making it more inclusive for those who don't have the time, also Jack is life.
  2. Turkey Day - I liked this one for the challenge it presented getting all the items, I gathered everything before the day so it wasn't a mad rush, I'd got some stuff in already, and didn't need to gather much, but the Dungeness Crab was a prickly little customer to get. DIYs were nice too, and again, appreciated that they made a pack of the DIYs so if you couldn't get on, you could still get the DIYs.
  3. Wedding Season - I loved seeing Reese and Cyrus back, and for the first week I loved the event, I am a photographer IRL, so doing the wedding shots, and setting them up was good, however it became a bit stale after a while doing the same sets over and over to get more heart crystals. Would have preferred more of the items being DIYs but I use a lot of them on my island cause they're so pretty <3
  4. Bunny Day - Potentially a controversial choice for number 4, but as the first event it wasn't too bad. It was annoying as heck getting eggs when you were fishing, or trying to gather stuff, but there was a large selection of items, and though they're not to my personal taste, I can appreciate the effort, hopefully for next time, Nintendo might switch it up a bit.
  5. Toy Day - I didn't play much leading up to Toy Day as it was snowing and my flowers run rampant in snow/rain, so I didn't see any hints of what my guys wanted, it was very quick though, I completed it in about 20 mins or so, but I love the items we got, like the puppies, and the tents.
  6. Earth Day - I liked the addition of the extra Nook Miles you could get with this event, which was pretty useful during the opening stages of the game, however bit contradictory that it wants you to plant a tree for an earth day objective, but chop on down for a normal one?
  7. Stamp Rally - I enjoyed this one, though it was more of a one day kind of event, not a few days, unless you wanted multiples of the same thing. I like how enthusiastic Blathers was about it, and how it promoted visiting the museum, which I did a lot as a child. Would possibly have been better later on (I know it was around the actual museum day) but I don't imagine people's museums were too full at this point?
  8. May Day - Though it was lovely seeing Rover back, and I liked the challenge of the maze, it didn't take long to do the maze, and the reward was a briefcase, which is relevant to Rover, but not really to May Day.
  9. Fireworks Festival - I pretty much ignored most of this event, did it the first couple of Sundays and grabbed the items I wanted off Redd, but that was pretty much it, it was cute seeing the villagers reactions to the fireworks though.

Best to Worst lets see...... Starting in November

1) Turkey Day -I love that the event why a little short was thought out. I not only without prepping completed it, I also liked the fetch quests. I also liked how they had the recipies avaliable the day after for thoughs that misses it.

2) Birthday - I love the whole aspect of celebrating my Birthday in the game and the cute but touching messages.

3) May Day - I did this with my first island. I love the maze and thought it was implemented well

4.) New Years Eve - Or was simple and cute. I liked the glowstick countdown and fireworks. I wish there was a little more to the lead up and after party.

Toy Day - I love Christmas, its my favorite holiday. And I do not mind it was short as it allowed me to spend time with family, I do wish there was just a little more to it though. It felt super easy.

6.) Wedding Season - I love the concept, but it felt a little too long amd relative. Some more variety maybe helping them with the honey moon.....something would of helped break it up better.

7) Museum Day - I like the concept but I wish it was not so repetive. It would of been neat to do one room a day. Maybe have blathers give a tour tell you a little about each display and get a stamp.

8.)Bug/Fishung Tourney - I do not mind the event itself but I do wish the timer is a little longer. Unless you preset the area so you so not have to go too far which feels like cheating it can be hard to collect enough to make it feel worth it.

9.) Bunny Day -I like the event, but thet fixed the spawn rate too late to be worth much. Also the set why fub to collect was meh in design.

10) Eath Day - I do not know what I really expected, but I did expect more thab juat a few random NookMiles tasks

As for Fireworks and Haloween I was busy and hardly played or partipated at that time. Part RL and burn out. I do not like to TT so cant rate them.

1. Halloween - This was just so fun! The trick and treating were great, I really loved it.

2. May Day - Again: so fun! I really enjoyed the maze, but I did expect there to be more mazes. I hope there will be in the future. In fact, it would be awesome if we could create them and let others visit. Also, Rover mentioned we'd definitely be seeing him in the future so I look forward to that. His briefcase is still standing near the entrance of my island. For me, this was a small but memorable event.

3. Fireworks Festival - Although I didn't see them each week, I loved the light-up sky. It was really pretty. It's just a nice feature to spice up the month, very welcome for me. Felt very cosy and more like the older AC games. I didn't play around with the option to create my own fireworks but I definitely will next year.

5. Stamp Rally - It was fun to do every now and then, I enjoyed going around the museum and having a purpose or something to do there. Blathers' hard work deserves attention like that!

5. Turkey Day - This one just felt a bit stressful to me. Beautiful furniture set though that I immediately used to finally decorate my house.

6. Wedding Season - this was just really lame. The same thing each day? I guess I'm just not much of a decorator like that. At some point I just plopped the random items down so I could get the heart crystals and get out of there. The furniture set is pretty though, especially customized to the brown one.

7. Earth Day - can you even call this an event? It didn't do anything. I forgot it was a thing. But I love Leif so it can go to number 7.

8. Bunny Day - eh. The only event furniture set that's completely useless imo and just.. hideous. This one was just too intense.

Didn't Play:
- Toy Day. Missed it due to celebrating it in real life.

Halloween is by far the best event. The item set appeals to me the most, but pumpkins just added more life to my farm area.

The worst ones to me were probably Earth Day/May Day/Stamp Day. I was desperately seeking new content and as the first big update these kinda weren't enough for me/Leif and Redd were great additions, I just wish Rover had more stuff to do.

Also I just want to say, Bunny Day deserves more credit. So many people are placing it last on their lists.
If you ignore the bad timing of the event; people were pretty new to the game so the eggs were super annoying when you wanted DIYs or to get new things for your Museum, but like this won't be a problem this year or if you go back and time travel.
I liked some of the items (they work well for amusement parks, or near the tea cup ride).

  1. Halloween - I enjoyed this the most. Great DIY distribution. Still disappointed for the absence of Creepy set though.
  2. May Day - I really liked the maze. I wished it happened more than once, and Rover had more something to give. Wasted potential for a brand new furniture set.
  3. New Year Countdown - I love the fact that villagers slowly gather at the plaza as New Year arrives. I love the party hats and hearing their resolutions.
  4. Fireworks Festival - I enjoyed it, especially being able to use custom designs as fireworks. I really liked the items that Redd sold. Really felt summer-y.
  5. Turkey Day - It was nice gathering ingredients. But could've had something more.
  6. Toy Day - Oversimplified. The Gift Pile DIY should've been given BEFORE the event. The preparation aspect of the game should have stayed.
  7. Wedding Season - Interesting and enjoyable at first. But becomes a chore just to get all items.
  8. International Museum Day - The Stamp Rally was a nice change of pace. Had a lot of wasted potential. But it's pretty much stamp and go.
  9. Bunny Day - Balloons destroyed what could've been an awesome event.
  10. Nature Day - Nothing really happened. Should've been Weeding Day instead.
