Counting down!
9. Bunny Day - This one seems to be everybody's most hated. Let's be real. That rabbit is just ridiculous and needs to disappear forever. And I'm sure we can all remember just how outrageous the spawn rate was for the eggs in the beginning. Even when they tried to fix it, it was still too high in my opinion. I don't like the furniture that much either. Like... how do you even decorate your island with that stuff? No thanks.
8. Stamp Rally (Museum Celebration) - I don't know, I just didn't really care for this. Sure, it was an activity to do, but... the rewards from it were very meh. Thankfully you could have ignored it if you wanted to, so the lack of an insane mascot and all that junk definitely keeps it at least a bit better than Bunny Day.
7. Earth Day - Not much to this one. It was just nice having those Nook Miles Tickets opportunities. Other than that... another whatever one. I kind of wonder if this and the Stamp Rally should even really count.
6. August Firework Season - Now this is where things just get way better. While this isn't a terrible event, I do have to admit that I was a little annoyed that yet another day of the week was being sucked up by an event, which got in the way of being able to get villagers to ping you to move off of the island. But that's really the only downside to this event, and it's only a downside for people who look forward to getting new villagers, like me. It was pretty cool having fireworks though. And I definitely liked that you could have custom pattern fireworks. This was a huge plus for the summer - and I imagine it made winter a little more fun for those in the southern hemisphere.
5. Birthdays - There's no hiding it. I love birthdays. Maybe this doesn't really count as an "event" as they can happen any day of the year, but I really feel like Nintendo did an awesome job with birthdays in this game. They're not a huge time sucker, but can be a lot of fun. It's just nice being able to celebrate our friends' birthdays!
4. Turkey Day - Maybe it's surprising to some people that I have this up there, even beating out birthdays, but to be honest I really liked this event. It could have been because I was stuck home all day thanks to that lovely pandemic that's done so much to everybody's plans this year. But it just seemed really cute, and it took up what I felt was the perfect amount of time. And I actually really liked all of the furniture DIY stuff that came from this. It's really cool that it can be customized to be more spring like! I think it'll make for some good decor in my main room in March, so that'll be awesome.
3. New Year's - I worked and didn't get out until after 6, but I still had enough time to enjoy this event. Granted, I was dumb, played around 8 for like an hour, then did other things until ten minutes before midnight. So I was only on to see the countdown and stuff from then, but it was still really cute and fun. I loved how we all waved our little glowsticks, and popped some poppers and I took some pictures, and yeah it was just super nice. Plus I like that we have a particular music piece playing all day New Years Day! It was pretty nice.
2. Toy Day - While I was a little disappointed with this, because of how little time it took, it was still cute. And I could have done more than I did if I'm being honest. I didn't really exchange gifts with my villagers, which was stupid on my part. I just gave them the gifts from the magic sack that Jingle gave. So yeah, I thought that it was too "quick" of an event, and I'm still bitter that recipes and stuff didn't start until the 15th, but there's nothing you can really do about that. I'll be keeping all of my festive stuff in my storage because of the fact that you can't start crafting it until what I feel is very late in December. I need to be able to get festive stuff out right away next Christmas time!
1. Halloween - As this is my favorite in real life, it should be no surprise that it was my favorite in AC as well. It definitely helped that the update made it so we could start crafting things in early October. This is why I actually sold all of my Spooky stuff. We can actually craft it at any time we want to, given that we can grow the pumpkins anytime we want to. And the day itself? Loved it. Looooooved it. It didn't take too long to get everything, but that was okay. The music and the feeling, the way that the villagers interacted with each other and you, it really was more than I could have ever hoped for. So yes, I am definitely very VERY happy with the Halloween event.
Sadly I did not participate in the May Day event or the Wedding Season things. I just forgot to use my ticket for the May Day island, so I'll be looking forward to doing that this May. And then during the wedding season I just wasn't playing the game hardly at all. Between mid May until the summer update that added diving I would go weeks without playing. Then diving came along and I started doing more in terms of getting my island decorated. Now I keep up on my island's decor to go with the season and things going on, which is one of the things that now keeps me hooked.
Overall, I would give this game an A for events during its launch year. Now here's to looking forward to what they bring us in 2021. January and February will be all new, and then after that... what will they do? How will they keep things feeling fresh after March? Are they going to change some things with tweaks and stuff? Will May Day be different? Maybe the fireworks shows will end up being less frequent, or spread out between a couple of months. I don't know, but I am very excited to see how things go this year in New Horizons.
