Yes, I know that romance with animals is kinda weird and that it's a children game, not an otome game but I've seen it been debated a few times before. cx It's actually an interesting idea-- since the flirting and dialogue of the smug villagers have really added some more tension in the air. cx

So do you think the level of tension/dialogue/jokes should stay the same or should there be some kind of option to... initiate stuff? I don't know, I feel like some fangirls are frustrated that they can never be flirty back. cx

I don't know. I guess it depends on the person. I think the flirting is cute, but I myself wouldn't want to "initiate" anything XD

I know right. cx I mean, for people a little older the game kinda lacks that little spice. Maybe there should be a spinoff? Or at the beginning of the game, they can ask you how old you are and depending on your answer you can get a more mature mode.

Oh, I can see it now; young children thinking it's cool to "be older" than they actually are...

Hmmm... maybe that would be connected to parental controls or something? Just thinking out loud. I have no problem with the game asking your age, buuut... :p

I think it should stay the way it is. Include more interesting/funny dialogue, but please don't get into the furry business... This is rated e for a reason.

Maybe hooking up villagers would be a better idea but beyond that seems really strange to me. I saw an interesting fan fiction once that had mentioned marshal with Sally so that's cute. Even NPC love like with Copper and Isabelle is cute but most stuff on tumblr and in fan fictions really shouldn't be reproduced in game for little kids lol

this idea is really cute!

players & villagers hooking up does seem a bit strange to me as well (but who knows maybe it could work???)
but villagers hooking up with villagers seems super cute. there's already rumors about the mayor, and occasionally a villager will say how "bloods gone down between me and _____," so how cute would it be if u heard about different villagers being together? and it wouldnt be just randomized either, like it can be programmed for them to talk about they're partner to you, but it will always be about the same villager (until they ultimately break up i guess???) example: marina could chat w/u about her partner, but each time it'll be about zucker so theres some consistency

idk guys i think this would be adorable as heck and could still be innocent enough for a rated e game

I don't tend to think of romance between animal villagers; but, I think the Smugs are romantic. They frequently ask about yellow-vs.-red flowers. I almost always tell them "red."

I actually don't think anything romantic should be added to the series, or anything similar for that matter. At the end of the day, Animal Crossing is a children's game and one of the best things IMO about it, is that gameplay is quite pure in all aspects. Of course, I sometimes notice funny dialogue that could be taken the wrong way, but that's as far as it would go.

Then again, even if there was romance, I don't think it would be anything too bad. I think perhaps slightly odd if between your character to the villagers, but not too odd if it was between the villagers themselves (which, by the way, I see a lot of dialogue about.)

Villagers hooking up with villagers would be interesting. As kikiiii said above, villagers sometimes say that. I often talk with villagers and they say they saw ______ sharing a lemonade with _____ only for ______ to swoop it. "It says something about their relationship" they always say afterwards.
Yesterday I was talking to Mathilda and she said; "Don't you think Eugene and Poppy are a cute couple?" and then immediately after it she said; "Oh they aren't a couple. YET"

The hints. They are there, they are real. As for player hooking up with a villager, I think a good bromance or strong friendship would be more fun, like, one villager being your ultimate best friend. (I have the best bromance with Eugene, he even came up with the nickname 'hun' on his own)

Does anyone know Enchanted Folk and the School of Wizardry? It's somehow like animal crossing (design your own room with furniture you buy, animal vilagers,...) and you have to learn spells and stuff xD It's AC with magic and DATING. Yes you can date the villagers there. It isn't as strange as it sounds - so I think it also can be possible for AC but it's really not needed!

I wouldn't be interested. I mean they are animals after all.
Still, some of the comments from smug villagers makes me laugh.

I think the smug villagers' comments and hints of relationships between villagers are there only to feed your imagination. A little personal fanfic doesn't hurt anyone, and in a game like this, a lot of what's in your village is based on you imagination anyway. Thus, I think it should remain as it is, you make what you want out of it, but nothing official. A little roleplaying is great fun every once in a while. ^-^

I just don't think this game is meant for that. I enjoy the flirtatious nature of the smug characters but I don't need to be able to make out with them or something. If you really want to flirt with them, write them a letter. Use the bashful emote. Change their catchphrase to "love" so it sounds like they're calling you that all the time.

A little imagination goes a long way in a game like this and works much better than wanting them to hard code more adult aspects into the game.

I wouldn't be opposed to more flirty dialogue between villagers though. The other day Poppy told me she wanted to see a romantic comedy with Ribbot. I thought that was adorable. Things like that are perfectly acceptable as they're vague and let you think whatever you want.

This is one of the few things that I have a strong opinion about, and that opinion is "heck NO."

I go to my Animal Crossing town to get away from real life issues. Some of the most harmful times in my life have been when I have been having relationship problems, and I've actually become uncomfortable with romantic relationships and dating in general. The Smug NL personality actually makes me a bit uncomfortable as-is, and I definitely don't want anything further/deeper in that vein added to the game.

I don't feel that it would be in-keeping with the tone of the series, and that's not even getting into the issue of a fantasy relationship existing between a human and an (albeit anthropomorphized) animal.

Please, no romance. Thank you.

An interesting idea but one I think that should be avoided, its a game aimed at a younger audience.

I think that would be...weird. But I do send flirty letters to my smug, Lionel. Or at least, they start off that way, then I crush his feelings by telling him it would never happen because I'm with someone else. ^^;
