I think it's just for decoration and nothing more. It would be pretty cool if it was for something in particular, but I, like a few others have said, don't want to get my hopes up, so yeah.
I'm guessing it's just there to imply that they have somewhere that they sleep/live....and they're not just falling asleep on top of their sewing machines.
It's not unusual for shops to have doors behind the counter that lead to a break room or living area. I guess the question is whether we'll be invited into their living space. (I'd guess not)
