I was going to make a career out of it, but later realized that it's more of a side hobby than an actual career. It didn't help that the classes I took at a University taught me almost nothing about how to actually make videos look good. Instead, I was taught useless information that could not be applied hands-on. I took four classes in my lone semester:
- One of the classes I took had me expecting to learn more about how to piece together stories for a video. Instead, I had to sit through a bunch of videos and slideshows on the history of communication theories, and it bore me to death.
- Another class actually had me watch movies and discuss things about the filmmaker's decisions, but the class' instructor was very strict, and even told us at one point not to ask "stupid questions that everyone could answer". I was afraid to ask any questions after that point, and eventually I stopped caring.
- The class that I actually learned stuff in was one where we worked with a studio soundboard. It was very limited, unfortunately, as we could only control volume sliders. I also couldn't vibe with the other classmates when we had to pair up to do assignments.
- Last was a required speech class for all degree programs. I can write a lengthy script if it's a topic I like talking about, but when you have me do a speech on boring stuff I have to do research on, that's when we have problems.
Combine those classes with my insane inability to make any friends on campus, and you have me dropping out completely after a single semester. My brief university experience was so bad, I've refused to go back to any college since. High school was easy as everyone that attended was local, but when I'm placed in a much bigger and different college setting, I don't know anyone and have to be miserable throughout. Could that be due to my social anxiety? Most likely, but there's other factors as well that I won't mention because it's sort of sensitive information. When I have to suffer that alongside the insane (and super confusing) student loan crap, that's when my opinion about colleges in general becomes highly negative. I have my HS diploma, and I have a CDL license for driving commercial vehicles. That's all I need right now.
