If you went through the painful process of making a rock garden share it!

I'm looking for feedback on mine (this takes up almost an entire square on the map. I don't recommend it). I don't know what color the mum cushions should be or what else I should add around it. Maybe some mush furniture?

This looks great reminds me of a clock. Does the shadow it cast have any representation of the time?

Mine is just six stone lined in a grid.

Unfortunately not. I wanted something more interesting in my forest/wild area. Trying to go for Stonehenge/fairy circle vibe.

That is gorgeous, I wish I had the patience for it. I just smash my rocks if they spawn in a location I don't like. I've got 4/6 of them around one particular villager's house so it's easy to farm and I like how natural it looks.

I think some of the empty grass area (outside of the rock rings) could be filled with weeds and/or flowers. It looks like somebody has been very carefully mowing around your fairy ring, haha.
Breaking up the treeline with a less regular edge or some bushes might help too. And any source of outdoor lighting - a single lonely lantern, or some of the mush lamps I see peeking in the corner of your screenshot?
I'm not sure the mum cushions add anything an in-season bush or something like a mush stool wouldn't. Especially if you add some more flora into the area. They aren't my favorite item though.

P.S.
I can tell how much work you put into this and love the idea! I don't leave this much feedback if I don't see potential in something. It's all constructive, not critical c:

I'm not sure what flowers. Weeds would be a good idea though. The mum cushion are more practical than anything.

If you sit on them and stand up, it lines you up to hit the rocks 8-9 times and the cushion mostly stops the knockback.

Unfortunately the space of my outcrop doesn't have that sixth rock to be where the orange cone is, so I figured a construction theme is more forgiving in terms of a lack of symmetry since I'm not ever going to do this again.

I like the lack of symmetry. It's a good use of the peninsula. Mine is at the front of my island and it just has a tree and a hammock right now.
What is the item in front of the rock you are standing behind?

Thanks! The object is the Oil Barrel Bathtub.

I saw a great use of the shrubs and 6 rocks, where the flowering shrubs were used to show which month it was. If I had my rocks in a circle like yours, that would be my go-to theme.

Wow! That looks so magical! I love it. The mum cushions really ad a great element!! You can host a really cool musical chairs event too! :D Haha. Congratulations!! I'm still working on my rock garden... I had turned my island into a mannequin covered land many times and gotten frustrated by how it's so hard to work on my island while this is happening. Also tried to cover my island with flowres too which was a bad idea. Now I'm just going to decorate my island all over, so hopefully there will be less areas that are needed to put a well placed mannequin! I hope to get there soon :D I will share here if that ever happens haha >_>

These all look really fantastic! Mine are nothing special, just next to each other. But great inspiration for sure!

I've seen different colors of hyacinths and mums mixed in with weeds to good effect. It'd make sense with your cushions too! Cosmos also have a nice "wildflower" look imo.

I agree, i think a mix of cosmos, mums and weeds would look really nice! especially yellow and white cosmos. maybe a couple of mush lamps/logs too? it looks good though!
here's mine! not very practical in terms of farming resources but looks kinda cute :p

Love this!
I personally would go with all white cushions, mainly just so you don’t have two of the same color next to each other which would bother me if I had to see every day lol and adding in some mum/hyacinths to the area in general would help fill it out! Also bushes are a life saver and would add more dimension as well as add more of a barrier between the circle and the cliffs. It would feel more woodsy and fairy circle-y

I had to use bushes/trees as a sort of barrier as well because mine is right next to a beach so this is sort what I’m thinking for you as well, but to your own tastes obviously~

I found the fossils to be a lot more useful since they are a lot better so they can block off a 4x4 area very easily and you get them everyday. I was still digging up fossils to get the 500 fossils assessed nook mile achievement

I'll have to wait for Leif to show up again. I'm missing a few of the bush types so I'm testing with what I have now to find the best placement. Trying to not make it too big cause the it's pretty big already

I wish the mum cushions came in a few more colors. The white variant looks a little greenish too me. The red is my favorite but stands out a little too much for my liking here.

The mum cushion are actually more for function than asthetics. If you sit on them and stand up, it lines you up to hit the rocks 8-9 times and the cushion mostly stops the knockback. But I could build walls with bushes or other furniture pieces. Maybe some Hyacinth lamps would look good. I kinda forgot those were an option too.

I’m thinking of making a rock garden on my own island (my parents would probably be a bit upset about the swarm of mannequins). How long does it usually take to set that up?

To place the the mannequins? It depends on how develop your island is so far. I had maybe about 1/5 of my island I didn't need to worry about because I had paths and furniture so there wasn't any place they were allowed to spawn. I don't recommend doing a rock garden from the start. I did the mannequins for a bit to get some of the rocks in place but the lag gets crazy and it hard to develop at the same time.

Then I did tt to move the rocks but that was hard still because they would spawn in spots I missed.

Ah okay then! I’ll probably get all my trees down first (I’m planning on going WAY over Isabelle’s limit) and then I’ll set up my rock garden!

here’s mine! as you can see, it’s right in front of resident services, which is very convenient, and just to the right of my airport.
