Pokémon Shiny Hunting Experience

I just got ultra moon and am looking into the best methods to catch shiny Pok?mon? I just started the game and would really like to catch a shiny zorua, which is in the grass in the trainers school on route 1.
I’ve heard there’s a few different methods.. you can keep trying to catch one (which is a 1/4000 something chance), you can use soft resets, you can use the adrenaline orb to get an sos call, or you can go through the wormhole. I tried to see if I could get access to the adrenaline orb and it’s not available in the pole mart in town - is that something I’m going to have to wait to get? I also heard that you can keep hatching eggs from zoroark until a shiny one hatches. Which method do you all think is the most effective? I need help on my journey to catch a shiny zorua! Also, can anyone walk me through the soft reset and sos methods??

I don't own a copy of Ultra Moon yet so I've personally never shiny hunted on that game, but it seems to me that the best methods for finding a shiny are the SOS Method and, of course, SR'ing for legendaries. This guide right here seems to be pretty good if you want to understand how to use the SOS Method. I'm not sure about the "Adrenaline Orb", again since I've never shiny hunted in Gen 7 besides Let's Go. Apparently an Adrenaline Orb can be found as early as Route 4. Use this page to help with finding one.

I personally wouldn't do the Masuda Method (hatching eggs) unless you have a lot of patience. You also need another pokemon (preferably another Zorua/Zoroark or Ditto) with a regional tag attached to it that is different from the other parent.

For soft-resetting, the normal shiny odds are 1/4,096. I would advise that you get yourself a shiny charm before you try this, unless, like with the Masuda Method, you have a ton of patience. You have to complete the pokedex to get a shiny charm, and I'm not sure how difficult that is in USUM but my friend and I did it pretty easily in ORAS. With the shiny charm, your odds increase to 3/4096, and with those odds soft-resetting would be good. However I don't know how good soft-resetting for a shiny Zorua would be; it's better for shiny hunting legendaries.

By far the easiest method for finding shinies in USUM is through wormholes; apparently if you travel far enough through ultra space, your shiny odds can increase to up to 1/3. But I don't think that Zorua can be found this way, since it's a set list of pokemon that can be shiny hunted this way (such as Crustle and I believe Medicham too).

TL;DR I suggest that you use the SOS Method if you would like to find a shiny Zorua. There are many guides online that can steer you in the right direction.

Hope this helps! :)

I'm trying to get a shiny in Sword but my luck so far has been awful. I don't want any particular shinies, and its been made easier in this game with the battle-method no longer being trading. I'm also using the Masuda method now to try and hatch a shiny with good stats, cause I breed for competitive.

I guess I feel spoiled by Let's Go, where it's almost criminally easy to catch shinies in that game and I encountered completely random shinies TWICE without even trying to look for them.

Granted, I've never had good shiny luck. If we wanna talk about completely random shiny pokemon, I've gotten about 3 my whole life. An ekans in HeartGold that I lost, a Frogadier in X, and a Magikarp in Moon. I literally always breed with a foreign ditto and have hatched hundreds of eggs but alas, my luck is awful.

Just a heads up a player named Abigail has an Impidimp raid that is shiny that they keep broadcasting for people to get. They seem to keep doing it throughout the day but obviously after 24hrs it will probably end as they will want to save over catching it for themselves. Best act today if you want to try and get one.

I got mine just a couple hours ago.

^^ Too bad I don't own SwSh rip

So ever since I got Let's Go I've been trying wuite a few times to find a shiny. I've hunted for Caterpie, Vulpix, and Rhyhorn, and since I had not completed the game (I still haven't actually) I lost patience and continued on.
But last night I found Pokemon Road and I decided to chain Dodrio (which broke at like 25 rip, though I was just doing it to grind exp) and Ponyta. Well like 3 minutes after hitting a combo of 32 I found a shiny! I was like actually terrified lol

So this is my first official Let's Go shiny! I named her Tiny cause when the catch mode started the text said "It's tiny!" and my friend told me I should name her that.

Another Lets Go shiny here!

So after finding the last Ponyta, I decided I wanted another so that I could get a shiny Rapidash as well. After an hour or so I got bored, ended the chain and started a chain for Eevee (since I want a shiny Vaporeon). Well, once I got a chain of 46 I decided to wait and YOU'RE NOT GONNA BELIEVE THIS

That's right. Another Ponyta lmaooo (notice all the eevees everywhere, they're the ones I wanted to be shiny right now lol)

So I caught it (unfortunately breaking my eevee chain, now I gotta catch like 31 more lol), named him Comet and evolved him into a Rapidash:

I gotta say, I like ponyta's shiny a LOT more than rapidash, but being able to ride on a silver flaming horse is pretty lit.

I gave up on my shiny Drilbur hunt once I realized I really didn't want a shiny in an Ultra Ball. I'm now hunting for a shiny Adamant Jangmo-o in a Beast Ball (possibly HA) and feel way more confident about this hunt! 320 Pok?mon in and I've already gotten two 6IV ones and about three boxes of 5IV ones I'll give away on Christmas. Hope I get a shiny soon!

I'm on 1472 eggs using masua method trying for a shiny sinistea right now. This has been quite a long hunt and my last two were 800+ as well so I'm losing morale a bit haha. Hopefully I'll have some Christmas luck!

I?m struggling so much with getting a single shiny. :( I have spent a reasonable amount of time doing SOS calls and hatching eggs using the Matsuda method to try and hatch/ catch a shiny Zorua to get the one I want the most - a shiny Zoroark!
I don?t have the shiny charm, however, which lessens my chances. I haven?t felt the dedication to go and fill my Pok?dex to get that item yet. I?ve been trying to breed my Zoroark with a foreign Ditto to hatch a shiny zorua, but I?ve hatched a few hundred eggs so far. Maybe some of you can share your methods? I?m playing US/UM, and I have a talonflame in my party. I run around on my Taurus using Taurus charge, then once an egg hatches I walk inside the nursery, use the box to dispose of the zorua, then walk back outside and pick up another egg (since I can only have 5 at a time) and repeat. I don?t have a lot of patience and it?s soo time consuming! Although I see a lot of twitch streamers who spend 8+ hours at a time to catch shinies, so I know it does take a lot of time and patience.
I have tried to SOS method a few times, but I know is not as effective if I don?t have the shiny charm. However I struggled with it a lot because I would try to ride out the original Pok?mon as long as possible, but even when using the adrenaline orb I would have to whittle it?s HP down quite a bit for it to call for other Zorua. But then I have a hard time knowing when the Zorua is going to run out of move PP and use struggle, then end up passing out and I lose my progress. So I?ve worked at trying to ballpark roughly how many moves the original Pok?mon has left, then knocking it out while a partner is in battle and continuing on with that one. However my patience is short and I only got to about 100 SOS calls before giving up. I?m just going to keep trying and hatching eggs! Ultimately I want a shiny Zoroark, a shiny Gyrados and a shiny Alolan ninetales. I know I have to get one eventually if I keep trying!
