I have never played this game series before. I kinda love the art style though and it's on sale on the Switch eshop for 20 bucks basically. I'm not a huge fan of turned based but I'm learning to like it slowly. Turn based games I loved are P5 and DQXI. Not much more than that unfortunately. I think the Switch version is only a port of the original while the PS4 has a remaster I believe? Not very sure. So do any fans out there want to give me advice about this title on Switch please? That would be great! Thanks ^_^ lol

I haven’t played the switch version but I loved the PS4 version! The remaster for the PS4 definitely has better graphics

the studio ghibli art is amazing and cute and the story kinda plays out like a ghibli movie?

the combat is different from traditional turn based rpgs, it’s a real-time turn based attack? Idk how to explain it but I’d watch videos on the gameplay beforehand. Also it’s kinda similar to Pokémon where you catch monsters and you battle with them (but you can attack too)

persona 5 & DQXI I think are much better games imo but I enjoyed ni no kuni! It’s a different experience than those two so I’d really recommend you watch some gameplay videos and see if you like the combat system

i had always wanted to play ni no kuni when I was a kid when I watched let's plays on youtube, so i actually pre-ordered the game for switch.
i love the story and art, but sadly i did find the main game mechanics a little repetitive. maybe it's just me, i haven't really played other games like this, but i started to get frustrated with how often i would be pushed into combat. there are certain areas of the map where you fight an enemy, walk for a couple of seconds, and fight another. if you really like grinding i think you'd like it. also, it might not help that i'm not very good at the combat, HAAH. also, there is a lot of extra details and areas that I never really investigated, so that might contribute to the repetitiveness.
i still played ~50 hours, because i really do like the story (and i'm a little nostalgic for it), but i haven't picked it up since January. maybe i'll try again.

Oh yeah the grinding was never ending ... :/ definitely slogged through some areas
I thought it was a cute game but other turn based games are much better
