my thoughts exactly at the first game, I started reading some wikias the same day and it turned out to be a really good game, though It's almost useless if you don't analize too much, you can easly kill a townie if you get folled by the mafia.

Well, hi. I'm the Newbie Mini Mafia (co-)host so I figured I should weigh in. :)

I think it's an excellent idea to make it into it's own tier. I don't think it would need to run as frequently as a Main/Mini Mafia game, but it's definitely something I think we should have more of. Not only has it introduced new people to the game, but what I'm really digging is the option for long-term players who feel they could do with some extra practice getting a chance to play. Obviously I'm following the game very closely, and I'm really impressed with how some of our usual inactive players are playing this game. It really seems like what they needed was the chance to play with a more equal range of players; when they're not afraid of being shot down by the notorious aggressive players they're really getting into the game and contributing properly.

If it does go ahead then I'd really recommend that anyone who feels the need to brush up on their game take the chance to partake in a Newbie game in future: don't feel put off just because it has 'newbie' in the title. It's okay to need a bit extra help or simply to want a chance to practice without the fear of being instantly shot down. There are actually a number of regular players that I would recommend take part in a newbie game.

As I'm taking a break myself from playing for a while, I'd also be happy to host again if needed. I'm really enjoying the chance to see the newer players in action. They're nice people and I really hope the current game is giving them a positive impression of mafia and that they will want to participate in Mini/Main mafia games in future.

I'm going to ask for feedback when Newbie Mini Mafia ends to see what people think of the experience (both coaches and players). :)

Yesssssssssssss. Oh, my goodness. I can't even explain just how much more comfortable I became with joining mafia when the newbie one opened up. Like Tina said, I was afraid of looking bad to the more experienced players. (While I know that what happens in mafia should stay in mafia, I can't help but to worry...) Like Lauren said, I didn't want to be considered one of the inactive/possibly spammy players. Being introduced to this style of mafia in general has made me feel a lot more comfortable with the idea of joining forum mafia vs. the more fast-paced IRC mafia/epicmafia. My coach (<3) has been super encouraging and helpful, and I think that newbie mafia is a completely different experience than just jumping into one of the games involving the way more experienced regulars. Having joined mafia, I feel like I now have a bit more of a connection with this community, and it's great. I think that Mafia was too intimidating for other people before, but the newbie mafia has a really welcoming atmosphere and I think that it could help bring way more members of the community together, like it did for me.

Should there be official requirements for coaching or is that for the host to decide?

I feel like hosting these should be limited to very experienced players.

I agree with this, and it should definitely be a third tier.

I agree, if it's a mafia to coach new or skill lacking players then people who have played a lot, have hosted a game before and considered a good player should only be allowed in my opinion.

Does someone have to meet all of those requirements or atleast 1 of them?

Honestly, because of the fact it's for new people and someone with experience would help a lot and hosting a game isn't easy, never mind a game to educate people and if you look at requirements for the hosting of a normal game, there's only one added on and that's having hosted a game before.

Obviously it's not my decision, I'm just throwing ideas out there.

Yes. I also think players who need them should be given coaches in all games if there are any volunteers for that.

Oh. That means some of the people that have been coaches already don't qualify. lol

I think you're getting the wrong end of the stick, those applied to people hosting a newbie game, not coaching.

I would love for Newbie Mafia to become a separate tier. I haven't participated in any Mafia games yet, but would really like to try it out this summer without being a bother to experienced players. I've been lurking and watching, but I know I'd still have a lot to learn.

I'm always happy to see new players who watch, lurk, and learn before joining an actual game. :)

Yeah, I can imagine that having several new players in a game can have quite a negative impact on other people's enjoyment of the game. I think a newbie tier would be a perfect way to practice the game properly. I really like the idea of coaches, too. Fingers crossed this proposal will get enough votes!

Same, I'd rather new players learn and lurk and get a good understanding of the game before throwing themselves in! Some people are too overwhelmed if they jump right in and dont play again! I love new players!
