Welcome to my log of a playthrough of the original Silver version on the Game Boy. What'll I'll basically do in this thread is play through the entirety of Silver version to at least the Elite 4 I hope using the minimum of 3 Pokemon mainly, the rest being HM slaves. This will include me starting with Dunsparce, leaving room for only 2 more Pokemon. One more trick - single evolutions only (and by single evolutions I mean by Pokemon Generations 1 and 2, 3 and 4 didn't exist back then. I could use Gligar as example).
So, follow me on my classic journey through Johto.
I'll fill you in in this first post what I've accomplished so far.
April 3, 2010
Started my adventure. Name Kyle. Going by EST, it is nighttime. I do the standard startup and choose Chikorita, knowing that I'll never use it and my rival will use a Cyndaquil.
I go to meet Oak, travel backwards and encounter the rival. He almost beats me and then I remember that all starters get a berry, which I am thankful for that ensured my victory. Made my way back to Elm which I name DICKS my rival for hilarity (just because of a comic I saw where Gary was getting named by the Player and the Player in the comic said DICKS while touting the awesome face). I continue my journey, snubbing my mother and receiving the Poke Balls that I will use in my capture of a Dunsparce. Continuing and battling the generic trainers near Mr. Pokemon's lab, I finally reach the home of the Dunsparce - Dark Cave.
I search and search for my Dunsparce, but I have yet to find one. The day ends with me Dunsparce-less.
April 4, 2010 (Easter)
I pick up where I left off in the Dark Cave continuing my search. I check the Ye Olde Pokedex on serebii.net and see that in the G/S/C versions Dunsparce were, in fact, VERY rare by walking around, which was my only option in this portion of the game. In fact, the percentages were in the single digits.
20 minutes after Zubats and Geodudes I see a glorious Dunsparce - level 4, female. With care not to faint it and having to continue the search, I carefully Tackle it and dare not to use Razor Leaf. Unfortunately for me then, Dunsparce only knew Rage, which means it could faint my Pokemon easy, which means my time frame was all of a suddenly limited.
One Poke ball goes out - to my dismay, it fails.
Chikorita has 2 Potions used on it and I manage to keep it alive for another ball to be thrown while keeping the wild Dunsparce in the yellow.
I succeed in the capture. To my bad luck she only knows the one move she used against me - Rage. I continue on to Violet town, deposit my Chikorita for a indefinate amount of time and make my way to the Sprout Tower. I spam Rage and succeed to making it all the way to the top easily. I earn my Flash HM and me and my Dunsparce finished our first challenge.
Now Falkner had to go down. Dunsparce had actually gotten so strong in the Sprout Tower is was easy for those birds to fall before me. Not a challenge at all.
Bidding Violet Town farewell, I make a pit stop at the Ruins of Alph just to solve the Kabuto puzzle and move on. Making my way down, I reject the Slowpoketail, heal up, and make my way for an expected challenge for my Dunsparce - Rock types. However, Rage still made it a bit easier. By this time Dunsparce has also learned two more moves - Glare and Defence Curl. It's alright, but I want to chain my Rage so I scarcely use them.
I eventually arrive in Azalea Town without any troubles in the cave and breeze through Team Rocket. I see that my Dunsparce gets Poisoned, but I give it two Potions for full health but leave the PSN and manage to beat the single Koffing by a 1/3 of my Dunsparce's health remaining. I make it to Kurt's he heals me and I decide to save and just encounter my rival to see what I am up against - the first Pokemon already presents a huge challenge.
A Gastly. Dunsparce won't be able to lay one inch of damage on it. My first unfortunate road block on my journey appears.
